Not chat room, just basic Instant Messsaging. MSN seems much moer popular in LOS. Chat room I damn blurr. There was once recently when a sweet PY gave me a chat room name in Yahoo and I can't find her! Ended up she finally borrowed a sis's MSN account (KNN TG's nick look like Indian man's nick and give me a scare). Finally after 2 days of ding dong via email, she got her own MSN account. Maybe I am just a novelty - a Thanchart typing in Thai just like them. But today the other student even beamed me her webcam as we chatted for a while. Haha, called her Kon Narak cos that's what she really is - damn sweet. Sigh, wish I could shave 10 years off my age. :eek:

Having said that, there is this ONE person I want to Internet chat/email with more than any other - my tirak. Now I put a bit pressure on her to learn liao - tell her I chat with other PY (got PC sometimes lah) sanuk maak jing jing - asked her wanna chat with me or not? I told her I enjoyed hatting with others but I miss her even more. I think she got my message. Next time I see her, sanyaa we go Internet cafe to set up the needed accounts, kekeke.

P.S. I realised why she was reluctant. She tot I was going to type in English even as she write in thai. Scared cos sure bpuat hua maak for her, When she realised I am already typing in thai also, kao gor mai mee pan haa laew. I have started to reap the ROI I really wanted.

OK, dun go off-topic here. Back to Thai songs or more precisely MVs (mpg format), got a list is here. Any favorites? I upload those 1st. will also be encoding into WMV (much smaller) later and upload to my songs website. Sigh looking for free space. My personal server almost full liao. So much to share, but no space.

I am very sorry I forgot maybe there are bros who do not know thai, because I am so used to speaking thai everyday thai words and roman words!!!This is the reality. All those romanized thai (correct term is transliteration) are literally useless in LOS in any official or government situation or even in private functions, you don't see them on any documents or magazines and what not. You will never see them being used amongst thais even today, The only situation I can think of a relevant use was a few years back when handphone displays were textual and non-graphical, and the only way for the thais to sms to each other was to use transliteration. But with the advancement in programming and display technology, hps today sport graphical menus and most new hps for the thai market support thai menus and thai input, these transliterations have become obsolete and the thais either use english or thai.

This is something I discovered recently as I started to communicate with Thais using Yahoo Messenger or MSN Messenger (more popular) it is hard to find thais (ages 19-34) who can type in or understand transliterations (whichever method I tried to use). Those who can are usually the older Uni grads and even then most cannot. So we either type in Thai, English or a Combination of Both. But the % who can use english alone is very small, and if they are puyings looking for potential male partners, most of them target Angmohs.

Typing in actual Thai scripts has brought me into a whole new world of communication with thais and I find plenty of benefits which is irrelevant to be discussed here (though one of them is the description "magnet" to decent puyings :p ). But what I can say is this - it is worth it! My world has become bigger & more fun. Suddenly, my circle of Thai friends have widened, from the few that I know to all over Thailand, as long as there is internet access. And where there is broad band, web cams are surprisingly common. It nice to be able to see who is one talking to and if she tells u she is 19, pretty and cute , one can see if its for real. The 19 yr from Khon Kaen (call her Miss P**y) I talk with often is so ...... guess cute will suffice ;)

For my SG friends, english/mandarin will suffice, So I find that naturally I am now depending less and less on transliteration (romanized thai), other than as quick and dirty way to read the sentence completely first if I cannot read out some of the thai words in the rntire sentence, so as to understand the meaning in context. Or as a teaching tool.

Even for places of leisure. For example, I went ta Karaoke with my tirak and most of the songs online have no transliteration. My enjoyment was so much more complete cos I can read much of the thai lyrics even I melt in her sweet voice as she sings to me. Or she tahan when I croaked. Everything has taken on a whole new meaning thanks to the power of the written word (in Thai of course).

Really, learning to speak/read/write thai is not as impossible as it seems, if one starts with the right guidance and have an objective in mind. After repeated requests from some bros, I am seriously thinking about holding some classes to help interested bros to learn this beautiful language. I dun claim to be an expert but I know I know enough, plus I can uderstand the problems/issues involved.

The objectives will be to learn and practice use of the thai language individually and as a group thru speaking, listening, sharing and with the net result being able to string together words to form simple sentences for email and.or smses. We will probably also teach students how to sms in thai (for those whose hps are thai-enabled). What I would like to include is how to use online dictionaries and translators effectively and the ultimate goal is finally to be able to enter into live internet chatting with the thai people, as I am doing today. My main issue now is where to find a cheap place with PCs and internet access are available. All other resources are non-issue. Any bros with contacts please pm me.

BTW the course will not be free but will be affordable. And because the objecives are specifi and supporting activities re-enforce what is being taught, I believe the results will be superior to normal course in the CCs and other language schools. And thru it all, a correct method of transliteratiion * accurate pronunciation will be taught - one that will be platform to build on as one progress to actual thai scripts. Nothing is being wasted.

jus saw this adertisment of this group called Bird on the tv last nite?
R their songs good cos i only knew they r the original singer of a song that was sing by Alan Tam in Canto version (it talk abt saving the earth n was release in 1992) jus last nite.

a recent fav of mine... "rueng bon tiang" by boy. he is the lead singer from peacemaker. this song can be found in the album "sleepless society". its a very easy listening album. The first song in the album is "mai lup mai norn" by Marsha.

I know below is an English song (thus may not be relevant here), but I really would like some help. Does anyone have a complete MP3 or WMA version of this song that you can upload? Listen to the partial song (here (http://209.95.110.196/SB/LittleThingsMeanALot.html)). My tirak heard it on radio in BKK yesterday and she wants to learn the song. Asked her why she want learn Pleeng Angrit, and she said "Mai Bok", as if I can't guess :D .

Having made several Personalized Karaoke Music Videos for my tirak and some other female friends, I am convinced that is is a damn good way to show you darling that you love her and she is special to you. The benefits I have experienced with the Thai version (as an example) are:

Because it is a Karaoke Music Video VCD, both lovers can sing together, even if you cannot read the thai words, cos you can also have the romanized version at the same time (dual language)
Instead of normal music video, it will be showing slideshow of photos of her, you or both together, synchronized to the lyrics/song. Much more romantic and touching
It is a very powerful way to remind her of you and vice versa, especially if you are apart from each other (like in my case)
She can watch/sing along it with her family and they will be able to see u on TV, and presented in a good way
When she enjoys it with her friends, u can be sure that they will be very "envious" and will definitely say how come their own boyfriends dun do for them? I do not know if you guys agree; but I kind of find Thai and Hokkien songs same same.

As in, both are normally love songs....and whether if it is slow or fast pace...the lyrics are normally sad :( {but sad until so nice}

Because my love relationship is bad, thus I kind of "connect" with the songs. Of coz, Thai songs I would need translation haha

How you guys find "Bird Thong Chai" songs? Now got his compilation disc....feel like buying
Enjoyed his live concert DVD (sometime last year, unsure any update since) in bkk hotel room stereo with my ex. Easy on ears (even for thai novice and word deaf guy) and eyes (stage charisma and nice female guest star). Saw got plenty fans from taiwan at concert too.

Saw Carabao concert in Tawandeng brewery in RaImthra last sat. Popular with both young and old (some wearing trademark head scarves, jackets etc). Fantas atmosphere for 1.5hrs concert, ppl just dancing away. I may not have understood the lyrics, but sure can appreciate good music:D
