I was divorced and re-married with another kid.

Currently paying ex-wife alimony of 1K every month.

Any chances to reduce the alimony?

Really feeling sick that I have to pay her every month though I can still afford it now.

Any way to cut it?

ok need to clarify a little here, as your first sentence gives the impression that you remarry again (with a kid, as in young girl???)

you are divorced with your ex-wife (any kids?) and then you got married again and have another kid with your second wife?

alimony payment to your wife should be granted by the court (is tax deductable also). unless your ex-wife remarry again, otherwise you have to continue the alimony payment.

during the divorce proceedings the alimony payment should have been well thought over. you could apply to the family court for reduction but must have strong reasons behind your application, not just because you are feeling sick about it.

Yes, I re-marry again. Was paying ex-wife every month for 2K until my kid just turn 21 recently and reduce to 1K.
Now remarry with another kid.
Btw, alimony is not tax-deductibles. I had checked with IRAS before and they say so.
Also, I am a bankrupt but my annual income is about S$160k.
I self declare as I was oweing alot of credit card debt which the interest was too much and cannot save money. Now after BK, manage to live life comfortably without having to pay interest to all the debts.

During the divorce, I gave the whole flat including my CPF to ex-wife as was trying to get out of the marriage as was left with not much option.

Currently renting an apartment as cannot buy house yet.
To buy BTO, income exceed.
To buy resale, no bank can lend money.
To buy resale with HDB loan, not possible as income exceed ceiling.
To buy private, no money.

Now just trying to save money and buy when the bankruptcy is over probably in 2 years time.

Just needing to vent some frustration as the feeling of hard earn money pay to ex-wife is not worth. Just a feeling.

To TS,

Yes. You can engage a lawyer to fight for lower alimony... I think if your kid is 21yrs old (ex wife kids), you can stop giving le... (Have to check with lawyer to confirm though)

i checked IRAS website and you can claim relief (though not much). not sure if alimony is under maintenance payment from 2012 onwards. previous years alimony was clearly stated.

http://www.iras.gov.sg/irasHome/page04.aspx?id=218

quote from the website.

From Year of Assessment 2012 onwards

If you are legally separated from your spouse and are making maintenance payments under a Court Order or Deed of Separation, you may also claim this relief.

The amount of maintenance payments paid in the previous year (under court order/deed of separation), subject to a maximum of:

• $2,000 for wife; or

• $3,500 for handicapped wife
