Hi guys
Hope someone can help resolve this issue as i have lost of treasure stored in this hard drive. I have a WD My book essential 4TB external hard drive. After i upgraded to windows 8.1 my computer cannot detect the hard drive. It says device descriptor failed. I have tried all methods stated in Google but still cannot work. I have mailed western digital about this problem and they say it is not the device problem so they cannot help and suggest me contacting Microsoft. I have mailed Microsoft but they did not reply to my mail. Can anyone help?

if it it is too troublesome and the data is too important to lose.
either do a clean installation of get another system with the older os
i was at the IT fair not too long ago and saw afew netbook with window8 going for less than $400.. surely it is worth the money and avoid the hassle

Plug it into a Mac computer. It should have no problems mounting the drive. :p
