Pak, please allow me to correct you... In Batam, when they say 1 ons, they mean 100grams... Therefore, 1kg = 10ons, which means they are selling the prawns at 280rb per kilo

Shopping mall food can be relative quite cheap in batam,but do beware of price of their drinks,hehehe....a cup of coffee as of the photo below cost 20k rupiah. :D

Competition between online taxis versus Batam's "conventional" kind of taxi.

If its 30k rupiah per trip from Harbour Bay to any parts of Nagoya,then no need for bargaining. I might not bother to use Go Car or Grab then (my usual trip from Harbour Bay to my hotel is free but now i have another option).

Just to share with everyone that a new foodcourt has opened in Batam Centre area, nearby KFC Palm Spring and not too far away from the largest Buddhist temple in Batam. Been in operation for about 2 months thereabouts, I reckon.

It’s called Foodcourt 28 (search for Pujasera 28 on Google Maps); I believe it’s opened by the same boss of Foodcourt A2 and J8...

Foodwise, it’s pretty good... Has my favourite satay Pui Ce satay (has outlets in both A2 and J8), and the seafood stalls’ cooking is not bad, much better than J8 in my opinion.

Has a wide variety of food, including Thai mookata, Lok-Lok, Chinese herbal soups, and special mention for the roast duck stall, the roast duck is quite nice.

Worth a try and it’s not as crowded as A2...

At times,the hotel receptionist do the job for me,hehehe...so if you ask me if i ever use Grab or Go car before,i would say YES,and i use them no less than 5 times in my every Batam trip since the start of this year.

Quite a number of hotels dont really care whether if you use go car/grab, but they usually sided with their customer tho. And as for those conventional taxis at Harbour Bay jetty,i almost never use them for over a year already,hehehe....

I think people needs to look from the perspective of the Indo girls,hehehe...

To these girls, Bangladeshi and Indian national Foreign workers from Singapore, Singapore-locally-born Indians from Singapore , or those Sri Lankanese etc were being mostly categorized as Indians,hehehe....

I think what the girls didnt like about Indian were their habits and not the race itself. If you are going to (or not going to) tip an overnight booking girl 2k to 4k rupiah after the whole night of booking in the next day morning, if you are going to force an overnight booking to drink alcoholic drinks even tho she says she doesnt want to anymore (she still drinks a bit to entertain but she will reject if she finds its too much for her), or if you are going to have a couple of friends who shared only one room and be sleeping together with her or be make to run errands like going to money changer to change money in small amount etc (there may be others)...then you are more likely to fall under the unfavorable category of Indians.

Above mentioned were taken from booking girls and taxi drivers i have met in Batam,hehehe... :D

Having said the above, while the girls may not favor the above category of Indians, the booking joint's OKTs love them,hehehe...becos most of the above category of indians were charge 30% to 100% higher than the usual normal pricing. And most of them dont bargain down. I said this becos i met 2 incidents where the Indians (Singapore foreign workers) tries to out-bid the price that my friend/s was being 1st quoted by the mami in 2 different occasions at 2 different booking joint. Meaning to say, Mami quote my friend 1.3 juta for a girl, the "indian" tells mami he's willing to pay 1.8 juta for the same girl.

In the end, my friend paid 1.2 juta for the girl (surprisingly we could still bargain down),hehehe... the girl chose my friend and turned down the Indian man's offer. During our get-together dinner time, the girl whom my friend booked tell us one of the reason why she choose my friend is becos she could smell the Indian's alcoholic body scent from more than 5 meters away,hehehe.... so i am guessing body odour is another one of the key thing that the girls didnt like about Indian customers too.

By far,i have brought 3 Indians to Batam (both were from this forum) in my previous batam trips (its in one of my trip summaries under my signature). They have no problem with the Batam girls. There was even a girl i knew who has a Sri Lanka boy friend,hehehe...

From all the evidence shown here,i find that the people holding the money to pay were not stupid or at least won't stay stupid all the time,especially those who regularly visit batam. So end of the day who lose out? Obviously it's the people trying to earn the money from the people holding the money. ;)

Conventional taxi drivers can keep creating a scene at those jetty but end of the day,they are just humiliating the intelligence of those hands who can feed them. :D

i don't take conventional taxis from any harbour as well,i dial for one,though not from Grab nor GoCar.

Friends wish to try out 2 star hotel so i thought i would make them happy,hehehe...but i have a small problem, i had a hard time trying to get a 2 star hotel which allows smoking in-room,hehehe...i threw out half a dozen email to half a dozen hotels in Batam,the 1st who reply me will get the deal,hehehe... :D

Hehehe...there is still those full day taxi booking option too. As the saying goes,one time kena chop is to pay school fee, 2nd time kena chop is learning the hard way, 3rd time and onward is pure stupidity,hehehe... :D

Nonetheless, i must say from 60k rupiah to 30k rupiah is another good option. I saved 1 min of bargaining time,hehehe... hope they can apply this to Batam Center and other Ferry terminal in future too.

If they dont, it shows that Batam Center still have the market for travelers travelling to Batam less often, meaning lesser regular travelers. If they could earn more,why chose to earn less.

Good to see more Sillyporean travel via tour agent in this aspect tho,hehehehe...the key thing is still options, clever ones pick the option that best suits themselves. Paying 50k to 60k rupiah to the taxi stand outside Harbour Bay arrival hall is not my kind of good option,hehehe.... not suitable for me. :p

Injection for birth control i am not too sure,but i think there are some birth control pills in the pharmacy for sale tho. The name sound something like "Diana" (or diane) or something,i used to have some friends who bought it in Batam before. The brand mentioned is shared with me by a taxi driver tho,cheap and good (according to driver but my friends bought those ultra expensive kind,not the mentioned brand above). :D

You can always check with the Pharmacist in Pharmacy just to be sure. Check with them which is the best available ones (and hopefully the healthiest one). I am no professional in this. :p

Thanks. This is what I'm looking for. Almost every search result I read refers to the 3 months one, whereas girls I booked, told me there's 1 month, 3 months and 6 months one. Night time listen to live music somewhere near bcc hotel.

Next day another different massage parlor (random). That when I had my first hj in a form of "massage" .

The time i go to Batam were usually the time when most people comes back to Singapore,hehehe...and the time i return back to Singapore were usually when most people start going Batam,so it dont make a difference. On top of it,i usually loiter around places that hasnt got much tourist :D

What so special about the S$1 per pack Luwak coffee of 10s...they are made in Indonesia for sure (not the original real luwak coffee) ,but look at the packing inside.

Its Black coffee WITH the sugar separated from the coffee itself,so you get to choose if you want your coffee sugared up or not,hehehe....i was impressed by the innovative of the packing.

Thank you for the info on Ginger tea from the 2 countries,i will keep a look out for those stated sign. I drink ginger tea (half a small pack for one cup) once every other day and i try to add more water as it can taste relatively quite "spicy". A bit too strong for me if i take them in full. :o

I think when they get married, I doubt he would want to travel back and forth to the girl's village, so it would be easier to convince the girl's parents to let the girl move to batam and buy a house there.

I was looking for property there too. But for foreigners, you can only buy properties that are sgd75k and above (Not inclusive of luxury tax etc). And the upcoming properties coming up which offers foreigners financing for studio apartments, the financing period is only 5 years max if I recall correctly. So either u have to fork out a big first instalment, or you have to pay generally about sgd2-3k per month.

Yup, heard this too. But that's what happen when u withdraw your CPF then buy a house there for some 20plus year old girl who's clearly just marrying you for your money.

So on one hand, you can get cheaper properties by buying a house when married to a local and using her name (notary option to explore whether it really protects you) which to some is risky and dangerous. On the other, you can get those luxury properties which are actually properties held under the name of the property developer, and they then issue a deed or some sort to in effect, issue the property under your name.

The standard fare from Harbour Bay to Nagoya has always been 50k for years, negotiable down to 40k with some effort. Now I read there is this new thing of the 30k fixed fare, but I still have to try.

To the point that often I do not even mention the price with the driver. With my heavy luggage (this lowers the chances and also my willingness of negotiating) I get on the taxi, once in front of Formosa I get down, I take my luggage, and I hand 50k to the driver, meaning I am also tipping. Never had a single discussion, just big smile and thank you.

I remembered i post recently about the standard of joints gals, describe as Jialat :o

Last time evey joints have their own agents sourcing ceweks for them from the kampongs and other cities and the agents earn a comission of 1.5-2juta per cewek. But as time goes by many of such agents were caught or stop sourcing for them, coz the commision not longer attractive to them.
For joints, source of ceweks become lesser.

What make it worse, now many outside agents are aiming their ceweks, sending their men to daily visit joints, once spotted SYT or better looking cewek, they will book the cewek and offer the cewek very much higher pay to work for them.
How much can a SYT earn a day in joints? Not even enough to cover a ST sharing by these agent offer to them. There are many rich locals that paid high rate for ST in batam. Few SYT i know personally earning 1juta for a ST and easily get 4-5 customers a day.

I knew 3 groups of agents doing that and sure have many others. So how can joints have good looking ceweks when so many agents are targeting their ceweks. :rolleyes:

Huh? 60k to 80k rupiah from Harbour Bay? I am surprise they price it at that. Then it is no wonder they do not have business. Kind of deserve it.

I pass by harbour bay during the noon time,an old Indo uncle speaking in English was touting ,telling me business has been very bad. Everyone were either having hotels picking the tourist up,or friends pick up or pre-booked taxi drivers picking them up and/or regular Batam visitors were mostly using online taxi which they as taxi driver also find it difficult to tell them apart,hehehe... (conventional taxi and Go Car taxi actually looks quite similar in appearance)

The 30k rupiah taxi rides from Harbour Bay does boost their business a little tho,but well,according to him is just a little (it will take time for most people to change their habits of traveling tho). Not a very significant increase. I wondered why so too.

Then later i find out some hotels inside Harbour Bay were offering 35k taxi rides for the exact area from long before the 30k rupiah offers (i took a photo from one of the hotel's taxi charges,which i shall only post out when i get back to Singapore or whenever i am free). Not to mention more hotels away from Harbour Bay were also offering free/cheap pick ups from ferry terminals too.

(many dont really like taxi drivers in Batam,just go online and you see taxi getting complained were plentiful and otherwise why many were looking for "reliable" taxi drivers)

So now, Harbour Bay ferry terminal passengers become smarter since their choice increased. Not forgetting, passenger can also take taxi from passengers who just drop off at the departure hall too,hehehe.... :D

Me too. It tires me out. I often see no point in sweating myself out after i already revitalized myself in a massage shop. Meaning to say,if i dont mind walking to a massage shop,but coming back can be an issue becos if its too far out,as i perspire. Hi bros, i have been staying at planet hotel since yesterday. Passby the hotel ktv on lvl 2 with a man standing guard outside and saw few ladies sitting on sofa, as it was dark and i was with my gf so we didnt went in. My first FR in this forum. Long one so bear with me. Traveled solo from 7 - 10 August. Stayed at Balerang hotel @ $15/night, NED area. Pretty good hotel and good for those interested in bar hopping in NED. Set out to try most of the stuff, booking joints, bars, massages in Utama and KTV. Didn't really manage to do it all but was v happy with the trip. Bought my Majestic Ferry ticket for $32 2 ways with a free hour ESKA massage @ Qoo10 after using coupon.

Arrived Batam around 7pm. Called my usual driver who came to fetch me at Batam Centre. Brought me to buy sim card . 4 GB for 60k pretty good deal. Didn't need to register, insert and use. Went to hotel and try my luck with wechat. Long story short. Made a newbie mistake, kenna ladyboy. Reject but she ask for 50k for taxi. Gave already, he asked for more. Tips for those who want to use Wechat. IMO:

My first FR in this forum. Long one so bear with me. Traveled solo from 7 - 10 August. Stayed at Balerang hotel @ $15/night, NED area. Pretty good hotel and good for those interested in bar hopping in NED. Set out to try most of the stuff, booking joints, bars, massages in Utama and KTV. Didn't really manage to do it all but was v happy with the trip. Bought my Majestic Ferry ticket for $32 2 ways with a free hour ESKA massage @ Qoo10 after using coupon.

Thanks for the info Bro OLO, I stumbled on an okt via wechat with albums of FLs. Upon agreeing price, when i mentioned that my gal will be joining, i got a reply no threesome. I asked even if we counter-offer, the okt never replied again. Yea.. its a challenge indeed and we haven’t explore the option of having drinks at the hotel bar to see if there’s any chances of picking one up. But then again on second thoughts, if my gal was to have a drink with me at the same table, might be hard to get a deal with a FL too. Haha.. and we had a not so good enocounter via wechat as well, we were glad we did not give much details.

After getting the advice from the wechat okt earlier about being careful with some wechat FLs that posted pretty profile pics but would sent those cmi ones over, we were very careful to try our best to verify them.

No mistake, these are the pricing. Excluding the cost for massage at usually 80k-100k per hour.
