Yeah, the Gunners would appear to be in turmoil... and losing out on the buzz of transfer activity while they're sorting out the boardroom drama.
now that you mention, arsenal is really not dipping into the transfer market at all, at least so far. they should get a couple of good strikers to live up their nick name "gunners". :D
We need Darren 'Rob-bish' Fletcher to score solitary winning goals against Chelsea.... hehehehe..... With his HEAD too at that!!! :p If they can hang on to their youngsters - esp Fabregas - and when Van Persie comes back from injury don't think Fab will go anywhere...and hopefully Henry comes back (unless he's going to Barca)...as Arsenal re-build this young squad...they may lose top 4 Liverpool - well, I think them pundits on ESPN hit the nail on the head. I hope you're not talking about Shebby Singh!! I really think it's hard for Liverpool to break into that top 2, furthermore..Rafa rotates worse than Jose...in my opinion!!

Haha...yeah. True! But Geremi is a utility player who could play in the flanks or as a defenssive mdf. But he has been playing on the flanks these last few years.
i feel that he has spent too much time away from regular football to keep his level. will have to see then.
I would love Klose to play for us. He would be our next Klinsmann but he is too big a name and It wont make any of our strikers happy if they dont get to play. Look at Mido. Defoe too expressed disapointment once and so did Keane last season. As much as I like Klose to play for us, team morale wise, I think we would be better off to have an up-and coming striker as our 4th striker. Maybe promote Lee Barnard or sign Nuggent or Sam Parkin or Dean Ashton. Darren Bent would make a good 4th choice striker as well. Or go abroad, sign Saldado of Real Madrid or Javier Portillo.
i thought mido has gone, hasnt he??? defoe can go already, it is in the news. klose will present a very good option for spurs with his "legendary" aerial powess. nugent seems like a sure bet to go to everton. dont think dean ashton is going anywhere if curbishley knows his ability. think he does. portillo too lightweight lah, in my view.
Yeah. If he signs he needs to work hard. But he will be under the tutorledge of Ledley King and Dawson, both England internationals. As a matter of fact, all young players need time to realise his potential. We are not looking for instant hits, coz we already have the players to do the job. we look at it as a long term thing.
well, only time will tell.:D
Niemi knows that age is catching up. If he realise this, then he would be willing to play second fiddle anytime
actually, i think niemi still can be a number 1 keeper in the premiership. he is very consistent. the smaller teams will also try to sign him. it will all depend whether he wants regular football or not.

for teams trying to sign henry, this is the best time cos wenger is also unsure of his position. henry has already come out to say that arsenal is not doing enough, hinting at their lack of ambition. if henry goes, fabregas will also want to go for sure.
for liverpool, only time will tell. benitez knows what he wants. if he gets that, it would take the biggest fools to discount them.;)
I hope you're not talking about Shebby Singh!!
I can't stand Shebby. He can't even pronounce players' names properly. Had a good laugh when he said 'good-jon-sen' instead of 'good-yon-sen'. Keke. But I think practically every pundit has been saying the same thing about playing Stevie G. out of position. Chelsea should make a more serious bid for him, now that Lamps might go... :D
Even if Lamps doesn't go, this could be a good team:
Drogba
J.Cole.....................................Robben
Lampard................Gerrard
Essien
A.Cole.....Terry.....Carvalho.....Bridge
Cech
If nothing it would at least do the England performances some good... :p

Oops, Bridge is cover for left-back hor... paiseh, got confused for a moment. Who's on the right - Ferreira? :p
Everyone wants to sign Kaka, bro... but I'm guessing the entire AC management and coaching staff will be massacred if he was ever sold. Them Italians are the original mobsters. Hehe. Anyway, why would Kaka want to leave the European Champions (and possibly World Club Champions?). Hmm, except maybe to prove that he can win it with other clubs and HE is the Euro Champ :D
Oh yes, apologies - this is a SPURS thread. And Lennon for SWP? Not unless Jol's turned barking mad after losing the race to sign Nani... or Roman throws a thick wad of cash in addition to SWP coming the other way... hehe...

Yeah...Bridge on the right? Wait a minute...this is a SPURS thread right? How come you guys are talking more of Manyoo, ARSEanal, Kops and Chelski??? Anyway, You are all welcomed here, no offence!
SWP in a swap deal with Lennon?? No way! I reckon if Lennon leaves, he would want to play up north, nearer to his family. SWP is a good player, but rather inconsistent. Might as well keep Lennon! You can have Ghaly, Danny Murphy and Paul Stalteri in a swap deal with Arjen Roben or Joe Cole. Ok what, 3 players swap against 1! Its a 3 in 1 deal...not only shampoos have these kind of deals u know!
Defoe to Chelsea? ...nah i rather have Keane
Robben to White Heart Lane...i wouldn't mind...then we'll rob Downing to the Bridge...
But who wants Micah Richards...if i can get Ledley King!!! :D
JWNY

I think this is Jol's last time to win something..if not, Sugar's kicking him out! But he's a hell better than Santini...THAT BUS DRIVER!!
One thing i don't understand about Chelsea is that Frank Arnesan...is he really worth the dough?
JWNY
I'm pretty sure, they said the same about Sheva before moving over...
Actually, them Italians were probably sniggering and pretty happy that they could get the price they did for Sheva, being not too far from entering the twilight of his career. No offence, but he was way overpriced for a 29 y/o when he joined. :p
Ok ok, let's keep it to SPURS talk. They are my fav London club despite me being a red devil. And despite Chelsea and Fulham being the closest clubs to where I was living. Heh.

Soft spot for Spurs Figo wants Spurs move
LUIS FIGO is desperate to finish his career with Tottenham Hotspur, according to The People newspaper.
The veteran midfielder still has a year to run on his existing deal at Inter Milan but is allowed to talk to other clubs. The 34-year-old's agents have been in contact with Spurs officials over the past 24 hours to discuss a possible free transfer.
Figo has always wanted to play in England and although Bolton and Newcastle are interested, he only wants to play for Tottenham Hotspur.
The Portuguese international is looking for a two-year deal worth around £60,000 a week. He was set for a move to Saudi side Al-Ittihad, where he would have had a £6million contact but the deal fell through at the last minute.
A friend of Figo said last night: "Luis has always had a soft spot for Spurs and would love to live in London. He has seen other stars go to the capital and settle with their families."
Figo said: "The door is open in Milan again and I am very grateful.
"I could stay for one more season, but there are other opportunities. I could even retire."

on either wings, he still has got that quick first step to beat defenders and still crosses very well. not to mention he can take penalties well and also chips in with the goals. 60k a week is ok, since can be assured that he will sell many shirts. but will that payscale unsettle the spurs dressing room ala hammers???;)

yes he made many assists for inter milan this season whenever he played. but he was substituted on many occasions, perhaps he cant last 90 mins. spurs have yet to procure a good left winger. i hate to see malbranque or ghaly trying to cross with their right foot from the left wing next season again... :D

He was ra right sided midfielder. If you;re wondering who played LMF for Spurs since the 90s, here's the list -
-Paul Allen (I think he and Ginola was perhaps the best LM since 15 years ago), Ginola, Jose Dominguez (remember him bro Castrol- another explosive Portugese winger, too bad he only qualifies to join the Portugese paralympics team..ahhah...he's a dwarf!- 5ft 2 in), Willem Korsten (talented but had to retire due to injury), Matthew Etherington, Johnny Jackson, Andy Reid, Christian Ziege (can double up as a LB), Timotee Atouba (urghh!), Reto Ziegler. I reckon these are the only natural LM for Spurs. We've been using makeshift LM this last few seasons with Davids, Murphy, Tainio, Malbranque and Lennon doing the job. I reckon only Malbranque and Lennon did decently whlie others flopped.

dominguez was really a very small player like zola, i wrote him off after watching him played a few times. untidy passing and always kanna dispossessed.
christian ziege was really good, didnt lose his touch when he joined spurs. etherington was improving but sold. young johnnie jackson was supposedly bidding his time to be recognized, quite explosive whenever he came on as a winger but many spurs youths never made it far. another one is rohan ricketts, promising but too lightweight for central midfield.

No official news of the bid. But it has been going on for sometime already. Chimbonda should make a statement like Berbatov did if he really wants to stay at Spurs.

75 minutes of a still worldclass player is better than malbranque in no man's land.:p figo is a threat, will always be cos he has a natural advantage although he doesnt have the speed of a winger. a player who needs to be marked or else he still has it in him to wreck havoc. moreover, lennon will benefit from his presence in the team.

Anyone thinks that Spurs need to be taken private in order to be the top 4?
Spurs become favourites to sign Sneijder from Ajax
Tottenham Hotspur have edged ahead of Aston Villa in the battle to sign Wesley Sneijder as they are willing to pay the €15m (£10.2m) transfer fee being demanded by Ajax.
The creative midfielder, who is 23 this weekend, is also keen to team up with Spurs' Dutch manager Martin Jol and would prefer a move to London rather than Birmingham. Talks are understood to have been held with his agent, Rodger Lindse.
Ajax have already rejected a series of bids from Valencia for the Dutch international which peaked at €12m (£8.1m). He was recently watched by the Villa manager Martin O'Neill at the Dutch Cup final but Jol is believed to have the advantage in chasing his signature.
If he does arrive at White Hart Lane, it will be another bold statement of intent from Spurs who have already spent up to £10m on Gareth Bale from Southampton. The pair could link up down Spurs' problematic left-flank although Sneijder, who is genuinely two-footed, can play on either flank or through the middle. Sneijder, who played for the Netherlands in their friendly victory over Thailand on Wednesday, has been a first-team regular at Ajax for five years. He has two years on his current contract and the Dutch club has said they will hold on to him and run the risk of him going for free if they do not receive the transfer fee they are demanding. Spurs' interest in the player is even more long-standing than Villa's with Frank Arnesen's enquiring about his availability when he was sporting director two years ago.
Meanwhile, Sir Alan Sugar has sold his stake in Spurs to the sports and media group Enic International, which already holds 54 per cent of the club's shares. Sugar, who was chairman until 2001, will receive £25m for a deal that values Spurs at £209.5m.
Enic, whose managing director Daniel Levy is chairman of the White Hart Lane side, will take its share of the club to 66 per cent after the sale of Sugar's holding goes through on 2 July.
In accordance with City rules, Enic have made an offer for the remaining 34 per cent of the club but it is understood they want to keep it on the Stock Exchange, rather than take Spurs into private ownership along the same lines as other Premiership sides in recent years. Enic's purchase of Sugar's shares will not affect the money available for transfers.
Anyone thinks that Spurs need to be taken private in order to be the top 4? Yes ... i think Newcastle and Spurs have the capacity to do that ...
Would love to see Sneider at White Hart Lane ... he's really good. Like Van Der Vaart!

i'm not too sure which club will be replaced but w/o prejudice, it may be arsenal if they sell henry and fail to beef up the strike force. anyway its just tccs from me, spurs need to do well against the top 4 to deserve and win a champs league spot. getting 3-0 thrashings from man utd and liverpool is not exactly top material to face madrid or milan in europe.

Sneider will stay, says Ajax chairman
Ajax chairman John Jaakke is confident midfielder Wesley Sneijder will still be at the Amsterdam ArenA next season.
Dutch international Sneijder is a reported target of Aston Villa and Tottenham while Valencia have had two bids for the 23-year-old rejected.
Jaakke is believed to have held fresh talks with Sneijder, after which he told RTV Noord-Holland: 'As things look now, Sneijder stays with Ajax.
'The contact that we have had with him points towards him staying in Amsterdam. We will do everything we can to make that happen.'
:(
Jol targets title tilt
Ambitious Tottenham boss Martin Jol has set his sights on building a side capable of challenging for the Premiership title.
Jol has helped transform Tottenham's fortunes since landing the manager's role at White Hart Lane in November 2004.
The Dutchman hopes Spurs can build on their success of qualifying for Europe in the last two seasons by mounting a Premiership title tilt in two years.
"My hopes for next season are to compete for Europe again," Jol told the Sunday Mirror.
"Liverpool, Chelsea, Man United and Arsenal have probably got more resources than us, but it's not only about money.
"We've got younger players, hopefully we've got the vision and we want to compete for prizes in the cups.
"We want to be in Europe and we want to do well there, but we have to be in the top six to be in Europe.
"And hopefully, if we can get players like Dimitar Berbatov, if we can have the likes of Tom Huddlestone, Aaron Lennon, Michael Dawson develop into star players, we can go even further. My dream is to compete for the title in the next two to three years.
"Overall I feel we did, of course, better than the year before.
"I feel that we were more solid the year before last. This year we scored goals, but we are not the finished article."
AARON WANTS MORE
AARON LENNON reckons if Spurs can sort out their Premiership form next season they can book their passports for sure for another European adventure.
They managed just five League wins away last term, but still finished fifth to get into the UEFA Cup again.
But Spurs and England winger Lennon said: "Hopefully next season we can make the Champions League. If you look at our squad now, we are capable of beating the teams at the top. And hopefully, we can break into that top four."
Speaking on the Spurs end-ofseason DVD, Goals Galore, he said his November Premiership winner against Chelsea was "probably the best goal I've ever scored - and probably themost important for Spurs as well.
"You could tell it meant so much, to the players, the fans, it was like a Cup Final."

with the EPL closed for the break and while waiting for real madrid to wrap up the la liga title, we continue the Spurs Legends Series (SLS). before we honour the next player, i wish to talk about what makes a club legend, or rather what makes a player a legend to a club?
is michael owen considered a liverpool legend?
is david beckham considered a man utd legend?
they left their respective clubs while they are still young but not before they contributed with world class performances. how many clubs have star players like giggs or j.zanetti (inter) who are going to see out their contracts with the same club after what? >10 years of 1st team performances.
sol campbell was spurs captain before he left for arsenal. he was england's first choice, rock solid, his tackles and goals from headers brought plenty of relief to spurs. in fact those corner kick headers even alerted barcelona! a very young ledley king was coming up as a reliable central defender that time but unfortunately the perfect partnership with campbell was short lived.

POSITION
Central Defender
DATE OF BIRTH
Wednesday, 18th September 1974
PLACE OF BIRTH
Newham, London
LEAGUE DEBUT
Saturday, 5th December 1992 as a sub in a 2-1 defeat at home to Chelsea (scored) (Aged: 18)
CLUB CAREER
246 League apps (+9 as sub), 10 goals
Sol Campbell was a prodigious schoolboy talent and was part-educated at the FA's School of Excellence at Lilleshall, before joining Tottenham Hotspur. Strangely he began his career as a striker. He made his first team debut for Spurs in December 1992, scoring a goal after coming on as a substitute for Nick Barmby, though he did not appear again that season.
He played up front and in every defensive position over the course of the next two seasons before settling as a central defender. As club captain Gary Mabbutt's appearances became more limited because of injury and age, Campbell became Spurs' linchpin defender.
In the summer of 2001 Campbell's contract expired. Mindful of the Bosman ruling, Tottenham offered him a contract which would have made him the club's highest paid player ever, but after months of negotiations and several public assurances that he would stay at Spurs, Campbell stated his wish to leave the club in order to play Champions League football.
With several top European clubs courting him, he joined Arsenal. Campbell had previously stated in an interview with Spurs Monthly that he would never play for Arsenal. Ever since, he has been labelled "Judas" by Spurs supporters, who regard him as a "mercenary" and accused him of prioritising personal gain over club loyalty; Campbell has always maintained that he loved Tottenham, and that his decision was entirely professional. The fact that he left on a Bosman transfer (thus meaning Spurs did not receive a transfer fee) further angered Tottenham fans.

Juergen was class, but he only played one and a half season in total for us. Plus he did not acheive anything whereas the likes of Ossie, Villa, Perryman, Lineker, Hoddle, Gazza and even David Howells, Vinny Samways and Justin Edinburgh brought some joy to us by winning the UEFA Cup (83/84), FA Cup (81/82, 90/91) and League Cup (99).
Ginola is considered a legend because despite our dismall season that time, he managed to put on a show and was voted the PFA Player Of The Year.

wow i knew this season is something special, i didnt realise it is that good! i tell ya, i am most pleased with spurs strikers who scored so many goals in 2006/07 in the tradition of tottenham's attacking football. i hope robbie keane will see out his career with spurs and become a true lilywhite legend, his great name to be referred to for many years to come.
spurs had the shortest season in 2005/2006. out of league cup and FA cup early early and no europe games, there werent many spurs matches to look forward to.
for next season, i would put the priority in order like this -
1) win UEFA cup
2) top 4 finish
3) win FA cup
Audere est Facere - To Dare is To Do

Can finish top 3 liao - cos some manager is saying his team should be a relegation contender for spending zero on players so far.... hehe... :p

Yeah. I can see us winning the UEFA Cup alrite. In fact I thought we had it last season only for some injury problems at the back prevented us doing so.
To 4 finish is a bit tough, as I still think the current top 4 is the best at the moment, but we are catching up. We will have a go, no doubt, but I have to be realistic about breaking the top 4 eventhough I would love to see us finish above the Gooners.
Spurs are known to be a Cup Team. We held the record win for the FA Cup untill Alex Fergusons kids managed to catch us and eventually hold the record now. But traditionally we were the Cup kings and its up to Jol and his players to regain that title in years to come.

hoddle and gang made spurs the FA cup king, alex's young guns stole the thunder from white hart lane.
the defeat against sevilla was really regrettable, especially after winning every game before that. spurs isnt weaker on paper and the 2nd leg was at home in WHL. well at least spurs lost to the eventual champion... what a record for sevilla, 2 consecutive UEFA cups!
5th spot in 2 running seasons really show how hard it is for spurs to break up the top 4. for the past decade, even with the likes of sol campbell and ledley king, the defence has never been well organized. but lets have faith! the keane of ireland says so! :D
Just watch my Spurs go in Europe next season, warns Jol
Martin Jol believes Tottenham can enjoy another strong run in this season's UEFA Cup.
Spurs reached the last eight of last season's competition and were unlucky to be knocked out against eventual winners Sevilla after conceding a highly controversial goal in the first leg in Spain.
Jol believes new recruits and the experience his exciting young squad have already amassed all point to signs of encouragement.
Tottenham are likely to be one of the seeded teams in next season's tournament, making the chances of a long run even better.
"If your squad is strong - and we will try to have an even stronger squad next season - the players will improve and gain more experience. If we can leave out the mistakes we will get the results," Jol told the official club website.
"In hindsight I tell myself that I should have enjoyed the UEFA Cup more last season. You want to win so much and, at the time, I was putting myself under pressure to get the right results and then prepare the team again for the next game three days later.
"It was not easy but, looking back, a special game was Besiktas when they applauded us off the pitch. It was an amazing atmosphere.
"In Leverkusen we had a terrific game and Slavia Prague was a big challenge for us because it was our first game and you couldn't be sure of their qualities even after seeing them.
"At the Lane we had great games until it came to an end against Sevilla, who ended up winning the UEFA Cup. For me, the evidence was there that we are almost as good as these sort of teams and maybe we are as good as them.
"We should be confident, what we have said is that we only see green lights and not red ones. We just want to keep pushing forward."

Soccer star Sheringham arrested
ITN - Monday, June 18 09:11 am
Former England striker Teddy Sheringham has been arrested after allegedly giving false details about a speeding offence.
Sheringham, who won 51 caps for England, is one of three top soccer stars who have been questioned over similar allegations.
The 41-year-old, who was awarded an MBE last week, was freed on bail after being questioned by officers on suspicion of perverting the course of justice.
A Scotland Yard spokesman said: "A 41-year-old man was arrested on May 15 on suspicion of perverting the course of justice when he attended, by appointment, an east London police station.
"It is alleged he gave false details regarding an alleged speeding offence."
Sheringham has been bailed to return on a date in July pending further inquiries.
West Ham striker Bobby Zamora, 26, was arrested last Wednesday over allegations he gave false details in relation to police camera footage of a car apparently speeding.
A third player, 31-year-old midfielder Shaun Newton, was also questioned on suspicion of perverting the course of justice, two days after Sheringham was interviewed.
They were also both released on bail to return to a police station on a date in July.

Charlton ready to accept Spurs' £16m for Bent
Darren Bent is expected to complete a £16m move to Tottenham within the next seven days after Charlton agreed to accept a reduced offer for their striker.
Peter Varney, Charlton's chief executive, had said Bent would remain with the club unless their £17m valuation was matched. West Ham had agreed to that figure and offered Bent a five-year contract worth about £75,000 a week but after talks and a medical was arranged the 23-year-old England forward pulled out.
Charlton have since softened their stance and are ready to settle for £15m with a potential extra £1m in success-related payments. The biggest potential bar to the move is Liverpool's continuing search for a forward. Should they fail to land Atlético Madrid's Fernando Torres, then serious interest is anticipated, though Rafael Benítez has other options.
Charlton, despite their relegation from the Premiership last season, are not under short-term financial pressure to sell but realise Bent's departure is inevitable. They have already signed the forwards Luke Varney and Chris Iwelumo and Alan Pardew will use the funds generated from Bent's sale to bring in at least eight new players between now and the end of August, when the summer transfer window shuts. More money is likely to come in for Dennis Rommedahl, who is the subject of an offer from Rennes.
Tottenham's initial interest in Bent was lodged in January and they have asked to be kept updated since. Alan Curbishley, the West Ham and former Charlton manager, was also keen on Bent, having signed him from Ipswich two years ago, and will be dismayed that Charlton have now lowered their asking price to see the transfer speeded up. West Ham had offered cash plus Hayden Mullins for Bent but there will be no makeweight players in the Tottenham deal.
Bent's snub to West Ham will become all the more acute when he accepts a contract within the wage structure at White Hart Lane, where Robbie Keane is the top earner on an estimated £50,000 a week. The move will, however, cast doubt over the future of Jermain Defoe.
One figure at Charlton said he believed the deal would be profitable for Tottenham in the long run. "The main reason we think Darren has such a high value is because he has just turned 23," said the Charlton source. "In four years' time do you think for one minute transfer fees will have gone down with all the TV money coming in? He will be 27 and one of the top English centre-forwards. He's going to be worth at least £20m.
"Basically we see it as a free deal for somebody. OK, there is a cashflow implication but they will profit. If you buy Michael Owen at 27 - £9m transfer fee, £120,000-a-week - you've got to write that all off because in four years' time he'll be 31 and nearing the end of his career. It's a good deal and, once it's happened, in a year's time it will look cheap."
With Owen's Newcastle future uncertain the source also suggested Sam Allardyce, backed by the club's new owner, Mike Ashley, could yet launch a late bid for Bent. The same goes for Manchester City, in the light of Thaksin Shinawatra's takeover. Liverpool are believed to have made inquiries through Bent's adviser, Neil Fewings, but he would not be guaranteed first-team football there, which Bent sees as crucial to his international career.

This is an interesting piece of news. Bros, what are your views of Spurs strikers situation if and when the deal is done? ;)

i am still puzzled why bent rejected west ham's 75k a week offer. he will definitely be a 1st choice striker with the hammers. but thats a lot of money spurs is willing to pay for bent, nevermind the tender age reason.
bent scored a few spectaculars last season for charlton, his ball control, especially from long balls, has been superb. another good thing is that he's english/british, i always wish to see spurs with more local boys.

Darren Bent was a product of Ipswich Town's excellent youth academy and was the club's top goalscorer in the 2004/05 season (with 19 goals alongside Shefki Kuqi) and completed a £2.7 millon transfer to Charlton that summer after Ipswich failed to reach the Premier League for a third successive season. He was a prolific forward at Ipswich scoring 55 times in 141 games.
He has also represented England at Under-19 level with an impressive 8 goals in 12 appearances and at Under-21 level with an equally impressive 9 goals in 14 appearances. At the start of the next U21 campaign (in September 2006) Bent will be 22, and thus ineligible.
On August 13 2005, the opening day of the 2005/06 Premiership season, Bent had a dream debut which saw him score a brace for Charlton playing at Sunderland. That same day, he was also called up to the England senior team for the August 17, 2005 friendly against Denmark.
He continued his scoring record on August 20, 2005 against Premiership newcomers Wigan Athletic, a game which ended in a 1-0 win to Charlton. Bent was then called into the full England squad for the World Cup qualifiers against Wales and Northern Ireland. He also was named the August Premiership Player of The Month.
Bent continued scoring regularly for Charlton and scored his 9th goal in just 11 games for 'the Addicks' when he netted past Carlo Cudicini of Chelsea on the 26th of October 2005 on the way to knocking The Blues out of the Carling Cup. He had also scored against Hartlepool in the previous round.
After being called up to the squad for a fourth time, Bent made his England debut on March 1, 2006, starting against Uruguay at Anfield in a pre-World Cup friendly match.
i am still puzzled why bent rejected west ham's 75k a week offer. he will definitely be a 1st choice striker with the hammers. but thats a lot of money spurs is willing to pay for bent, nevermind the tender age reason.

Precisely. Why did he rejected more wages and guaranteed 1st choice striker status with Hammers?
If he believes Hammers may be involved in another relegation struggle he could always add a relegation release clause in his contract. Hammers will be desperate enough to agree to it.
Robbie Keane has just extended his contract and Berbatov due to extend his. Mido is as good as sold and will Defoe be satisfied with cameo appearances?
Keane, Berbatov and Defoe are internationals and btw 24-26yo. I seriously doubt neither would want to be on the bench. And why would Bent join Spurs to sit on the bench when he should be playing regularly to stake his claim for an England spot.

Spurs mateys,
I think Mido is getting fatter and fatter... no space at all. It's good that he leaves Spurs. He regretted joining Spurs... but I feel it is the other way around.
Berbatov is a great player. Glad to hear that he pledges his loyalty to Spurs... unlike Carrick.
Our new recruitment, Gareth Bale, he is a fantastic player. At such a young age, he is already representing Wales and his prospect is definitely tremendous... A natural left side player...
Too bad, we have sold few of our young talents... I always thought they have great potential... Calum Davenport, Simon Davies, Matthew Etherington and Bobby Zamora.
Well, this season, we really need to find one left winger and center midfielder to partner Jenas. Probably one more ringer winger to back up Aaron Lennon. In all, the future looks great for the lilywhites.... Go you Yiddos...

Yes bro... I was delighted when both Davis and Etherington joined Spurs... Etherington is a left footer and you don't find much left footer winger in English players.
Oh, I'm wondering why Reto Ziegler is not playing? Is he gone? This lad got some potential in the left.

now that you mention, i read earlier last season eric edman was to leave for another club but young ziegler was staying and will have a bigger role in spurs but somehow disappeared (?). both are natural lefties and i think edman is a better player and shouldnt have been sold. he's never afraid to tackle and is useful on the attack.
zokora may not be the most appropriate defensive midfielder right now, but then again how many makelele and vieira are out there? i hope the experience of last season will help him to cut off attacks more often so the goal difference wont be so jialat.

Bro, any higher than 3rd next season for Utd is a bonus.
I respect the work done by Mourinho at Chelsea. He may have signed 4 players for a combined £1. But they are good additions to an already strong squad. I wont be surprised if he adds it with a big signing before the new season starts.
After watching Liverpool's owners interview (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bEcOdOpxtxs), no one will doubt their promise of transfer funds to Benitez. Like every Liverpool fan have said for the last 17 seasons, next season is gonna be theirs.
With Arsenal losing the only player that can win them trophies, that leaves a young Spurs and old Utd fighting for 3rd place. :D
I believe that any club finishes above Chelsea AND Liverpool next season will be crowned Champions.

Spurs mateys,
Go you Yiddos...
To dare is to do! Audere-Est-Facere
Dude, Nice to see another Spurs fan in the forum. But do u know the word Yiddo? Yiddo refers to the word YID, which is a term used by Jews. As most of u might already know, Spurs has a huge Jewish fan base, calling themselves The Yid Army. Now this section are considered racist fans by the FA and they are pulling the plug on the so called Yid Army in conjuction with the "Lets kick Racism Out Of The Game" campaign. Nevertherless, u could still hear the chants "Go Yid Army" or "The Yids go Marching on" by a small section of the club. Now, by saying "Go You Yiddos", do u mean the Spurs players are YIDS? Hossam Ghali and Mido are Muslims (and so does former players like Kanoute, Nayim and Naybet), and most of the players are christians. So unless if ure a Yid army, please do not chant the word . Just a friendly information from a seasoned Spurs fan.
In addition, you also mentioned that you were sad to see Etherington, Davies, Zamora etc left. I do agree on that, but I reckon the player that left which left me in tears were Klinsmann (in his 1st season), Gazza, Lineker, Waddle, Sheringham (when he joinned Man Utd), SOL (of course..ARSEnal of all teams!), Ginola (3Mil to Villa????- what was the board thinking!?),Mendes (i think he deserved more) and Freund (our very own Stig Toffting!).

Yo bro... Of course, I know about the meaning of Yiddos... That's why one keeper... couldn't remember his name... got into trouble when he did a Hitler signage in front of Spurs fans... Spurs got a lineage of Jews in it... However, not to worry bro... There isn't any racist comment intended. I've been following Spurs since 1990 and it has always been alright to use the term with my English friends... they responded back that way as well... Anyway, if it is offensive to you... I will not use it anymore.
Yeah, bro... It's a pity that Klinsmann left us after such a tremendous season with us. His second coming saved us from relegation in a high scoring game against the Hammers. Ahhhhh.... those names... Lineker, Gazza, Hoddle, Waddle and etc... You still remember Sicknote... Darren Anderton... he is a good player... too bad injuries has been affecting his play. I still don't understand why Les Ferdinand, Sergi Rebrov and Kanoute can't score whilest they're with Spurs.... but perform so well in other league or team.
Well... when the name comes to Sol Campbell.... .......... HE LEFT US ON FREE TRANSFER TO JOIN THE GOONERS... my goodness... and he called himself a Spurs fan? haha... Freund is more like a clown to me... haha.... he is so funny... always trying to get the ref to give him free kicks.... hahaha...

Vieri considers Spurs
Reports in Italy claim Christian Vieri is considering an offer to join Tottenham Hotspur.
Vieri is available on a free transfer after leaving Atalanta and is weighing up his next move.
The striker, who turns 34 in July, is being tracked by Genoa, Torino and Napoli with a view to staying in Serie A.
But he is also exploring the possibility of a second foreign adventure, having previously played for French side Monaco.
Speculation in Italy has suggested that Spurs have been in touch with Vieri's agent in recent days regarding a possible move to White Hart Lane.
The former Internazionale ace is understood to be planning further talks with the Premier League club in the coming week.
Spurs are in the market for a new striker, with Mido set to leave the club, and are also keen on Charlton Athletic's Darren

I think that's no truth in it.... There's always a lot of speculations during the pre-season. However, if Vieri is interested in joining Spurs... why not? Though, most of the time he gonna be at the bench.
Still......... we want a left winger!

he should try playing for a serie B club now.

time for SLS (Spurs Legend Series).
Micky Hazard or mike hazard as the commentator usually called him, was a spurs midfielder who played in the same team as archibald, crooks, ardiles, ricardo villa, chris hughton... he was very young and promising then. he also played in the UEFA cup final against anderlecht which spurs won in 1984 - both legs ended in 1-1 (agg 2-2) and spurs won 4-3 on penalties.
his curly hair (during his first spell at the lane) was unmistakable to me then, he was swift and very attack minded. not really a crosser or playmaker, he was more like the cavalry. :D

Spurs sign £16.5m Bent
Tottenham have completed the signing of Darren Bent from Charlton in a club record £16.5 million deal.
Bent completed the formalities of the deal on Thursday evening. He has agreed a deal "up to six years", according to the club's announcement on the Stock Exchange.
The 23-year-old's arrival shatters the £11 million that Spurs paid for Sergei Rebrov.
Bent said: "Tottenham have a lot of young English players and it's a young squad, it's a squad going forward and that's the direction I wanted to take.
"They seem to be getting better and better every season and I would love to be part of that. It helps a lot that I know a few of the lads from England internationals and I'm sure they will help me settle in."
The transfer fee will be paid over the next three years in instalments and it is understood the final £1 million of the deal is performance-related.
Bent's 15 goals last season could not prevent Alan Pardew's men escaping the drop and his move from The Valley had been anticipated since defeat to Spurs when relegation was sealed in the final week of the campaign.
He bolsters a Spurs attack that scored more than 60 goals last season, and that was without Mido who is expected to leave White Hart Lane.
Dimitar Berbatov and Robbie Keane were Jol's first choice for the big games, with Jermain Defoe adding 18 goals as the third striker.

I dunno man, 16mil is a lot of money. Mind you we only paid 10.8 mil for Berbatov and he is class. Are they saying Bent is better than Berbatov or even Thierry Henry who cost Barca about a few hundred thousand less than what we paid Bent for. Mind you, I have nothing against Bent, I think he is a good player but I underline the word good. He is no Berbatov nor Henry thats for sure. I reckon he is not worth 16mil. If we paid charlton 10mil or less would be more acceptable in my opinion.
Imagine this, 16 mil we could buy a good left mf...most probably Petrov from Atlhelico Madrid ....as well as strenghtening our backline. Out of 16 mil, we could get 2 good players from 2 different position. Like I said, Bent could prove me wrong, lets hope he will. But I guess its ok though, we have a very strong financial capacity, unlike the pre-Alan Sugar era where we almost gone bankrupt. Thank god for Sugar but 2000x thumbs up for Enic (Levy and Buchler). Who needs a russian billionaire or some american tycoons to do us business. We are on the right track so lets hope we spend wisely. Plus, we have the most expensive seats in the EPL at the moment, so I guess that'll help...LOL

Will he be leaving? He is not that bad as a striker... a totally different class of striker compared with Berba, Keano and Bent...
In all... I hope next season team will be like this...
--------------- Berba --- Bent ----
-------------------- Keano -------
Drenthe / Taarabat -- Jenas ------ Lennon
------------------- Robbo
Subs:
Cerny
Dawson / Gardner
Malbranque
Huddlestone
Defoe

The player that i hope Spurs get, are finally here......Bent although having a high price (actually i rate him to be ard 11million pounds) tag will definitely be an asset. Unlike Defoe, Bent is able to stay on line most of the time and he is soo soo fast and with lots of stamina. He is able to hold the ball better as can be seen when playing for Charlton. And he likes running into diagonal space behind the defenders......he can be counted to do defensive duties in the 3rd half too....and good buy but a bit too heavy priced:) Spurs to ship out Mido if he continues to sulk and moan....

Hope we can get a really good Young Pure Left Sided Midfielder this time round?:) Any good Dutch(drenthe is dutch right?), French or Brazilian?? Actually Portsmouth Niko Kranjar is young, skillful and good crosser. Newcastle's Charles N'Zogbia is a good talent too....so does Tevez:D....but too expensive right now...
I do hope that Kaboul (davies got potential but darn too expensive) will come although we already have some good young players in that department - dervite is one of them(injured most of last season)

with young younes kaboul from auxerre, imposing figure at 1.9mtr, i'm really thinking perhaps he can partner rocha or dawson in central defence as 1st choice. i watched him play a few french league games on ch107/108, not bad at all, very fast reactions.
ledley king can start playing defensive midfield, giving zokora, his central midfield partner the licence to go forward. i believe ledley can achieve much more than sitting at the back. he's a composed tackler and ball winner, and his passes always find the player. :D

not easy to find these days, even argentina played without a natural left winger against usa the other day. but i still hope jol will consider his dutch countryman, zenden. zenden may have lost his pace, but he can do no wrong with his preferred left foot. he may not be young too but 2 good seasons from him will do for now right? :D

Hatem Ben Arfa is a good young Frenchmen who wants to leave Lyon. He could be our trumpcard. Wesley Sjnider is another fella who could play anywhere in MF but Ajax is reluctant to sell him. There are a lot of LMF out there, I just hope Jol sign the right one. But if we fail, then we could opt for Taarabt. But he is actually a CMF in the mould of Zidane. But if we fail to sign anyone, maybe we could try him out and give him time till the next window in january.

In an old post, I have suggested that if we sign Kaboul, we could Push Ledders up as a DMF. He has played there under SG Erickson for England and he never failed to shine. He is strong, ever commanding so thats what we need as again I stress, our weakness last seaon was not only the defence, but the link between defenders and midfielders. We conceded a massive 14 goals from long range mind you, the worst in the EPL last season. if we could reduce that in half, we could be pushing for 4th and I reckon Ledders is the man to do the dirty job as he is composed, strong and commanding player. He could marshall both the midfielders and defenders by playing in that role.

oh yes chairman, you mentioned about ledley before, i think i didnt agree to it that time. but i changed my mind recently, a good defensive midfielder should, be very defensive minded like makelele and emmanuel petit. ledley's agenda in every game is to stop the opponent, as you mentioned the dm position allows him run both defence and midfield.

ESPN - Sampdoria make Ziegler deal permanent
Reto Ziegler has agreed to join Italian side Sampdoria on a permanent transfer from Tottenham following his loan move last season.
The 21-year-old Switzerland left-back was the last remaining player signed during Jacques Santini's spell in charge before Martin Jol took over as boss in 2004. 'I feel good at Sampdoria,' said Ziegler, who failed to break into the team under Dutchman Jol. 'This is the right club for me to improve as a player.'
Despite struggling for cover at left-back last season, Ziegler was allowed to leave for Serie A, and Jol has brought Gareth Bale in a £10million deal from Southampton since. Jol also wants to strengthen the left side of his midfield but a move for Christian Wilhelmsson from Nantes appears remote as the Sweden international's agent is negotiating with Roma.
Fabio Alho told Sportbladet: 'We are still doing everything we can to stay with Roma. 'We are still negotiating in order to reach a deal so for the moment we are not talking to other clubs.'
Meanwhile, Czech Republic youngster Tomas Pekhart appears set to stay at White Hart Lane rather than go on loan next season. The 18-year-old striker said: 'When there were some discussions, they said that they would not release me as they were preparing me for first-team football, so I hope I will get a chance.' Pekhart signed a year ago from Slavia Prague and has played for the academy and the reserves.

Hola. Well, Willhemson is highly rated in Sweden, but I reckon rather than signing him up, might as well go for Bakircioglu..like Sjnider, he could play anywhere in MF and I reckon he is a better player than Willhelmson. Both are Swede and Swedes produce very good Wingers, apart from Volvo, IKEA, Abba and gorgous busty babes! e.g Limpar, Ljunberg etc..Gosh, both played for the gonners!
We are also rumoured to sign both SWP and Diarra from Chelski with a combined fee of 18mil. I dont see it as a good deal coz why must we sign SWP if we got Lennon? Does this mean Lennon will have to play on the left to accomadate SWP? And Diarra? Is he any better than Zokora? Might as well sign Makelele as he wont feature regularly for Chelski as Mourinho would opt for Essien. Nevermind his age, I still think Makelele, at 35, can still do the dirty work. Or better still, dont sign a holding MF...give Hudds a chance or play Ledders there. Oh...another one...I hope this isnt true tho...Hudds is beng linked with Reading! I think that Hudds is vital for our development so its not the right thing to let him go as yet. Let Jenas leave...I think he is not SPURS standard. To me, he is about the same standard as our old players like Vinny Samways, Davd Howells, Moussa Saib, Nicola Berti, Allan Nielsen etc.
Pekhart is a good player. Saw him play once in a reserve game at Loftus Road and he scored 4 goals and Lee Barnard scored a hattrick in a 7-2 win against QPR Reserve in a freindly. I enjoy going to reserve matches as it is much much cheaper and sometimes we get to see recovering players play. Tickets are just 5pounds to 12 pounds, compared to a whopping 35pounds for a ticket in an EPL game!

Spurs swoop for Auxerre defender Kaboul
Tottenham have announced the signing of France Under-21 defender Younes Kaboul from Auxerre.
Spurs fought off competition elsewhere in Europe to sign the 21-year-old, who was rated at around £8million.
The signing takes the club's expenditure to over £30million following the arrivals of Gareth Bale and Darren Bent at White Hart Lane so far this summer.
'Younes possesses power, great pace and is good on the ball and strong in the air,' said sporting director Damien Comolli.
'He is a good leader who showed a great desire to come to us despite interest and offers from numerous other clubs.'
Kaboul is a centre-back who will compete with Michael Dawson and Ledley King for a place in the starting XI, with skipper King currently recovering from knee surgery and facing a race to be fit for the new season.
King's injuries last season led to Dawson playing in all but one of Spurs' games in the last campaign, leading to Comolli starting the search for cover.
'From day one he said 'I want to play for Spurs' and his personality made a big impression on Martin and myself,' added Comolli.
'He has been a regular in the Auxerre first team for the past two seasons and is an excellent signing.'
The transfer maintains Spurs' policy of signing young talent.
Boss Martin Jol added: 'If you ask people in France who is seen as the hottest prospect in defence, they will say Younes Kaboul.
'We are very happy to have him on board. It's important to have quality players in defence and, with Younes, we have that.'
so now, with Kaboul acquisition we need a good left midfield or an out and out left winger!:)

I will have to disagree with you on Jenas. Dun get me wrong, I think he is a good player, its just that he tend to pass the way wayward or backward. He got that from his Newcastle days and its not helping his game. Of course he has a good shot on goal, no denying it, but I sometime find that he gets lazy. And I like Malbranque. He could be a good squad player. I'd say sell Murphy (his market value is not much, maybe 250k-750k?), Ghali (He would be a great asset for Al-Cleopatra or Al-Camel-toe FC) and Wayne Routledge (I know he is capable of displaying good brand of footie but not CL standard).
From the look of it, I dun think Jol will bring in Barnard. For me, he needs to be given a chance. Learn from mistakes, Spurs managers,...we had the likes of Greame Souness and Peter Crouch in our youth ranks but let them leave without giving them chance. Souness turned up to be a world class ball winner (and a very intimidating moustache) and Crouchy, well crouchy....lets just say he is tall enough to actually reach a high ball and do a bicycle kick!...ooh...that chopstick legs arent so sexy, aint it???

Despite signing kaboul, we are again linked with Curtis Davies! Oh no....Not to say that he is not a good player, but I think this bloke is slightly over-priced.. I mean 10 mil for someone who only played 2 seasons in the EPL? Also, does this means we will have to offload one of the CB? We have Ledders, Dawson, Kaboul, Rocha, Gardner, Dervitte....plus some other youth players. I dunno man, I think Jol should stop spending on defenders (eventho we were in need of a plumber last season). We have a nice set of players already = RB-Chimbo, Stalteri, Ifill. LB- Lee, Bale, Assou-Ekotto...CB= as stated. We need an all out left midfielder! Cant we just ask Ginola to get fit and play for us again,????
Maybe Jol will play Gareth Bale on the left side of midfield if he cant sign one. Read that Bale is a versatile player.

Spurs have been quite quiet on the transfer trail so far. Anyway, ziegler has been sold to sampdoria, which is a waste. At the same time, I would say that spurs have spent too much on darren bent, who's only an average player.
Hopefully, he can prove me wrong:)

Maybe Jol will play Gareth Bale on the left side of midfield if he cant sign one. Read that Bale is a versatile player.
i'm not sure if bale has ever played in left midfield, but as chairman putrawk pointed out, there are already ah lee and assou-ekotto in left back. l like lee a lot becos he covers a lot of ground and is always able to dribble in and make decent crosses. i do reckon lee can make a good left winger.
does spurs still have the biggest squad in epl again like last season? :D

well, players who are out on loan are usually no longer in the managers' future plans.
the price for bent is a big sum by spurs' transfer standards, all spurs need is to win something next season to justify everything. just like all have forgotten about carrick's price tag in man utd when they won the league title. bent never fails to score spectaculars and i hope he will be very entertaining with what he does best.
btw, bent's size reminds me of adriano. :D

Quiet? We spent almost 40mil already and Jol said that he has yet to look for more! Our transfers are big transfers thus far, and this is what we need to break the top 4. Even if you follow webistes like Teamtalk.com or Fotball365.com, Spurs have always been linked with a new player almost everyday, eventhough some are just down right rumour. So I cant understand why you say we have been quiet. We are the 2nd most active club behind Man Utd in the close season.

Yes yes, your chairman has spoken of that. LOL. Yeah, Lee is very familliar with the Left midfield position, thats where he played for the Koreans in the 2002 WC. In fact, before he left to ply his trade in Holland, he was signed as a LMF, only until he was transformed to a LB in his very 1st season. To me he is THE BEST RIGHT FOOTED LEFT BACK IN THE WORLD...hahha...
I reckon we do have ONE of the biggest squad. This will enable Jol to do a Rafa Benitez in rotating his squad, which might come in handy since we will be playing 50-odd games again this season.

so ah lee was a left midfielder! come to think of it, as a non-professional soccer player myself since teenage, i used my left foot as much as my natural right foot the whole time. i can shoot and cross the ball with my left as well as the other foot. but there arent so many like lee and me around. :p

Hi bro Castrol,
FM is a good football managerial game. Graphic wise not much... I heard CM developers have crossed over to develop FM.
Anyway, anyone saw Bent's debut goal for Spurs against Stevenage? This guy is good... and Taarabat scores too... very weak shot though...
Yah boy... we have been really active in the transfer market this season... Jol going for SWP and Giuly? Both are righties..... we need a leftie! Having said that.... we might not be getting any LW... if Jol is alright playing Malbranque or Tanio on the left...
Alright, we have backup for most department.... ST, CB, LB, RM, CM... but what about RB? Chimbonda is good... but what if he is injuried? Essoko?
Anyway, I think Gardner is on his way out... There is so much challenge in the CB position.....

i played FM (2D match graphics only) before, the demo actually. but cant like it so much becos there's no 3D game engine. so i played TCM instead. i'll try to check if there's a demo for the new 3D CM to download for water testing.

Correct me if I am wrong, but when the 2005/6 season ended, Jol brought in some players regularly. However, after the reason concluded season, after buying Gareth Bale, nothing much has happened except the on-going rumours. Perhaps that is y I hv the impression that it's been rather quiet.

It seems that spurs have signed yet another good midfield player, boateng from hertha berlin. Dunno wats their policy but it seems that they are doing so more for business than football. ie. buy decent players, showcase them in the premier league, then sell them for a profit. With 40mil pounds, why dont they buy 2 proven football stars. Hope im wrong but i expect some spurs players to be sold soon or in jan.

i have never seen kevin prince boateng play, only george boateng from boro. i read he's a central midfielder, born to german and ghanian parents and is named germany's best young player in 2006.
so much money has exchanged hands for players who are so young these days. but anyway, older and experienced players will demand higher wages every season.
so spurs have signed players for every department except goalkeeper. robinson is still crossing his fingers. :D

Hertha Berlin have accepted a bid for midfielder Kevin-Prince Boateng from Premiership outfit Tottenham.
Sevilla were the first club to register an interest in the promising 20-year-old, the Spanish Primera Liga side lodging a £2.7million bid last week.
However, Tottenham then weighed in with a reported £5.4million offer to put the approach of the reigning two-time UEFA Cup champions in the shade.
Sevilla have since upped their offer, but Hertha general manager Dieter Hoeness favours the deal put together by the north London club. 'The offer from Sevilla never interested us,' Hoeness said. 'It was not enough, so we turned it down.
'We have accepted the offer from England and now the club and the player must reach an agreement.'

Birmingham boss Steve Bruce has also made an inquiry about Mido's Egypt and Spurs team-mate, Hossam Ghaly, as he looks to build on the squad that earned promotion last season.
Ghaly struggled to impose himself in midfield last season and was tipped for a move after throwing his shirt to the ground after being substituted against Blackburn in the penultimate game of the season.
Martin Jol is expected to have plenty of options in midfield again and is also in the market for a left winger, with Atletico Madrid's Martin Petrov linked throughout the summer.
Adel Taarabt has also impressed in pre-season and scored a goal for a Spurs XI against Dartford in a friendly win yesterday.

Hello,
I've been away to Bali and missed the whole transfer rumours going on. When I got back, my inbox were full with emails from my fellow Spurs supporters from the UK, the US, Singapore, South Africa, Korea and New Zealand. They asked me if all the rumours were true. Geez...its not that Im the chairman or something! LOL But I can tel you this, the Egyptians (Mido and Ghali) is definitely going to Brum. But its a slow process, maybe they took the Nile river and the camels had a torrid time carrying the 700 pounds Mido!
Oh, and while I was in Bali, I spotted a topless European gal with her boyfriend. I didnt notice the boyfriend was wearing a Spurs jersey as I was too distracted by the girlfiends yummy knockers! Haha...The bf was wearing our collared Adidas-Holsten kit with Oyvind Leonhardsen's name at the back. I thought, hey, thats rare...Leo's number at the back! Normally people would go for 9-Ferdinand, or 23/5-Campbell or 22/10- Keane...but i always welcome anyone with a Spurs kit and a players number on their backs. I thought right, he was a Norweign. i asked him, why not have Iversen's number at the back he said, he has one. The next day, we went out for lunch, my wife and kid and the couple that is, he brought a bag with him. Its his collection of Spurs kits. Ive never seen anyone who has the exact same kit with different numbers at the back! I was shellshocked and awed by this. He had 8-Sherwood, 10-Iversen, 32-Berti, 33-Klinsmann, 8-Poyet, 14-Ginola, 9 and 7- Anderton, 10-Sheringham, 9-Ferdinand, 22 and 10 Keane, 5-Campbell, 26-King, 5-davids...but my fav was 4-that writes Pls Skor b4 u leave FREUND! Haha...He said for this Bali trip, he only brought those and nothing else. Now thats what I call Hard core. He even gave me a photo of him and his GF with Ian Walker, Sir Les and Ginola....too bad the gf is wearing clothes!! LOL.

BOATENG SIGNS FOR SPURS
http://www.tottenhamhotspur.com/images/articles/5487-6.jpg
We are delighted to announce that we have signed Kevin-Prince Boateng from Hertha Berlin.
A central midfielder, the 20-year-old arrives at the Lane having already played 42 games in Germany’s Bundesliga, scoring four goals. He has also made six appearances in the UEFA Cup.
Boateng progressed through the ranks at Hertha Berlin having initially played for the reserve team in the Regionalliga Nord, where he scored three goals in 18 games in the 2004-05 season aged just 17.
Capped by Germany at youth and Under-21 level, Boateng was awarded the prestigious Fritz Walter Gold Medal Award after being voted Best Young Player in Germany in July, 2006 and went on to contribute 14 assists towards Hertha's goal tally last season.
"For me it is amazing to be in England," reacted Kevin to his arrival. "To be in London and playing for Spurs will be great for me. It has been my ambition to play in England, I am 20 now and am about to quickly realise my dream.
"I know that Spurs are a team who like to play offensive football. The club want to climb higher next season and I want to be a part of it.
"I watched the Premier League regularly in Germany, it is the most famous league in the world and I have always enjoyed it."
Martin Jol added that Kevin will bring strength and variety to his midfield options.
"Kevin is a talented player who plays for the Under-21 side of his country," said the manager. "You could compare him with the likes of Aaron Lennon and Tom Huddlestone in that he is an exciting player for now and the future.
"He is an attacking midfield player, very strong and that is one of his main assets.
"In Germany he is regarded as one of the biggest talents, we recognised this and went in for him." - Tottenham Hotspur Official Website

Pressure on Martin Jol to win trophy
Tottenham manager Martin Jol says that there will be more pressure on him to succeed this season than ever before, but he is confident his side can develop into one of the best in the Premiership.
Jol has transformed the north London club on and off the pitch since he took over the managerial reins from Jacques Santini in November 2004.
The Dutch coach has assembled one of the best young squads in English football and ensured that the club are playing on the European stage once again.
Tottenham last won a major trophy in 1999 (the League Cup) and supporters are anxious to see their side bring some major silverware to White Hart Lane.
The club's directors have shown their trust in Jol by handing him in the region of £39 million to spend on new signings - including the purchase of striker Darren Bent from Charlton for £16.5 million.
Jol knows the expectation which comes with spending so much money and is honest enough to admit he must have another successful year if he is to justify all the hype surrounding the club this summer.
"There will be a bit more pressure because people expect more," he said. "With different players, younger players, it's not always easy. We first have to prove that we can be top-four potential. We've never done that before. It's a bigger step for us than for Arsenal because they're already in the top four.
"The board is very happy with me. I was the only one in the last 25 years to get the team into the top five two years in a row, so they can't complain."
Jol feels that his side could become genuine title contenders over the next few years if all the players fulfil their true potential.

great news folks, great ghaly is back. good grief.
Birmingham boss Steve Bruce today admitted he told Hossam Ghaly to 'clear off' after the midfielder criticised his new team-mates and complained about having to undergo an extra fitness training session.
Bruce was less than impressed with the approach of Ghaly during a double training session at the club's Wast Hills complex yesterday, when he was asked to do extra running and a session with fitness coach Dan Harris due to his lack of pre-season training.
As a result, the manager decided to call off the proposed £3million transfer from Tottenham. Blues had announced the deal on Monday subject to a work permit but until that had been obtained the formal paperwork could not be completed and technically Ghaly was still a Spurs player.
And Bruce has revealed his reasons to the Birmingham Mail: 'His agent left a message and said that he [Ghaly] wasn't happy with the standard of players here. 'I couldn't believe what I was hearing - and I've kept the message on my voicemail.
'When he had his one-to-one session with Dan, he was moaning we 'don't do this, don't do that' at Tottenham, it 'wasn't right' and 'ridiculous'.

Lets see....King, Dawson, Kaboul, Rocha, Gardner, Dervitte....Do we need Davies who only played 1 season in the EPL??? I think not.
huh??? still buying midfielders ah???
Haha...good point there, but we still dont have a LMF. I think our last LMF we had was the mighty and very fit Andy Reid. Reto Ziegler has left too, so we do need someone there. We cant afford to play with makeshift LMF. We played Davids, Tainio, Malbranque, Lennon, Murphy there, but we seemed o attack faster on the right. Thats why whenever we counter attack, we seldom see us counter from the left. So I say, buy a LMF, get rid of one or two CMF (Maybe Murphy, Ghali -pls go, dont moan! or Tainio)
Only concern about the left side - all the key left backs injured !!!
What are you Bro's prediction for this Sat's game
Yeah man, LB is a concern. We might field Rocha or Gardner there as both of them played LB at the tail of last season. Or we might bring Chimbo on the left and recall Staltieri to play on the right. But for me, although I prefer to play 4-4-2, I would employ 3 CBs as injury has resticted our selection. So, thats Dawson, Kaboul and Gardner/Rocha as CBs, RWB-Chimbonda, LWB-Lennon (Who else but him?-no choice there), CMF-Fresh Prince Boateng, Hudds/Jenas/Zokora or Malbranque, Keano in the hole and Bent and the count (Dimitar) up front. But I prefer 4-4-2 anytime. Get well soon King and Bale...

What do you Bros think of Robinson ?
I think his form dipped after a few season with us. He was fantastic in his 1st season. Definetly my pick for best GK with Petr Cech. But last season was perhaps his worst for us. But at least he didnt relegate us like he did for Leeds!
robinson is england's no.1 simply becos the country is out of good goalkeepers. :D
Yeah. England had a history of very good goalies. They had Banks, Clemence, Shilton, Chris Woods, Seaman....it was after Seaman that England had trouble with Goalkeepers....David James was clumsy...maybe because of frequent hair style change- his brain failed to connect with his hands, Nigel Martyn was too old to be Seaman's deputy, Ben Foster too young, Scott Carson lacks match practice, Kirkland and Green too injury prone, Wright and Nicky Weaver peaked too soon (its like ED for them)...so Robbo fits he bill well. I still think he could improve and regain his form. Hopefully this season will be the season.

Yeah, man ! Tot both Pepe Reina ( Liverpool ) & Van De Sar ( Man U ) are really good GKs ! So really hope that Robinson will perform much better !
Probably MJ should "rotate" our GK too for League & other Cup games instead of letting Robinson get burnt out !
Did you guys noticed that last year our opponents attacked mostly our "weakest link - the left side" & make crosses from there !!! And Robinson just hesitates to comes out from his line !.....Can't wait to watch if BALE can deliver ?
My Wish List is that we must reduce the nos of goals in !!!

no, now david james is brought in to challenge robinson for his automatic place in the england team. james is very good now... think he gave up on his nintendo liao!

sorry, kaypoh a bit. robinson is the kind of goalie we call a shot stopper and stays on the line. another good shot-stopper i can immediately think of is shay given. but these guys r prone to loss in confidence, which was probably what robinson suffered last season. but when he is on form, he is unbeatable. but when he is bad, gary neville would score against him...:D give the boy a chance...
all the best in the new season. cheers.

I agree 100% with you bro. He is a shot stopper indeed. Other shot stopper that comes in mind are the likes of Canizares, Casillas, Tony Meola, Kasey Keller etc.Shay Given too, but the only difference between those two (Robbo and Given)is that Given has wider experience as he has been around for sometime. I think he replaces Pavel Srnicek way back in the late 90s whereas Robbo was deputy to Nigel Martyn at Leeds before. He had 2 seasons as 1st choice at Elland Road before moving to Spurs to topple Kasey Keller as our No 1. He has still yet to peak as GKs tend to peak after their 30s (look at Kahn, Toldo, Pat Bonner, Shilton, Jennings, Seaman, James and your very own David Lee!). He has to be given a chance and hopefully he will gain confidence and be a top Gk.
My ultimate wish list is to finish higher than ARSEnal....and I mean it...I dont even care if we are 19th and ARESnal are 20th, as long as we finish higher...but I find that pretty hard to swallow....hehe

he needs to be assured of his own performances cos 1 poor performance will lead to the next poor one. last season was one he would like to forget. best way to encourage him is to assure him that he still is the no 1 and u, the chairman, have no intentions of getting any goalie in, except to provide as cover in case he is injured.
hmmm... your post reminded me of toldo!!! in my humble opinion, the best shot stopper in recent times. looked bloody overweight (some said stout) but damn agile and has a very good reach. some of his saves were out of this world.:D

And this coming from Tim Sherwood, our former captain, who spent his time with us on the treatment table???? YES, we DO need King, but I reckon Kaboul will come in good. HE might not be able to produce his magic immediately, but he is one for the future. I think our defence looks strong enuff, even without King. So no worries there. My concern is who will play on the midfield flanks? Lennon is out. Word has it that Jol might field Routledge on the left and Fresh PRince on the right. Prince played as an attacking right MF fo his former club, so he should be doing well there....
This is my lineup for the Sunderland game....Robbo, Chimbo (RB), Gardner(LB), Daws and Kaboul (CB), Malbranque (LM), Prince (RM), Jenas, Taarabt (CM), Keane and Berba (FW)

bad luck with the food poisoning case. but in all fairness, wasnt too happy with spurs then, cos with the unsporting behaviour in the game with arsenal when 2 of their players had a clash of heads.:( think u will know what i m talking about. this season is the best time to clinch that champs league spot. seriously doubt arsenal can maintain their standard after the departure of henry. actually, quite easy to play gunners nowadays as u can easily see that they have problems getting maximum points against physical teams. and for your LM dilemma, aaron lennon.

i wished spurs could sign david batty to partner sherwood that time. the 2 powerful players made blackburn's central midfield rocked.
i saw kaboul play for auxerre on several occasions and i'm totally convinced he can become the backbone for spurs backline just like he was for auxerre. this guy's got the height and no-nonsense attitude. he stopped many players who tried to dribble past him, and i dont consider the french league a lower grade to EPL. :D

i feel that arsenal is not entirely about henry or even vieira last time. the key to their strength as a top 4 power is arsene wenger. so many arsenal players become world class under his charge. if he goes to manage leeds, they'll be back in EPL very soon. leeds is poor thing now.

haha... wenger for wigan or watford, that'll be the day.
this new season is a bit different due to the takeovers of a few EPL clubs by foreign tycoons, with plenty of money to lure players. check out the intentions of man city, west ham and newcastle. the top 4 wont be knocking out the "small fuckers" as easy as before...
spurs look great on paper now, but their entertaining open and attack minded play may be exploited yet again.

aiyah... to build a team around fabregas is not that sound lah!!! like i have said, they struggled badly against the physical teams. the smaller teams already knew that and they had to fight tooth and nail for almost every single point last season. this season will be more difficult for the gunners.

I am a fan of Matt Taylor. I think he is an under rated player with plenty to offer. I rate him like other under rated players like Arteta, Nolan and Barry. Just look at all the goals he scored last season. Simply brilliant. And he could play as a left back or as a Left midfielder. Not exactly a ryan giggs/Ginola type of player, but plus point is that he can defend too.

I think King should be given no 5, while Lennon should take Stalteri's no 7. If Matt Taylor signs, he will wear no 31....not a fan for big numbers though. i tell you what i know bro. you know sebestian deisler, the most promising german playmaker, wore no.26 for bayern munich when he first started. later on the club wanted to change his jersey number to a more "respectable" one, ie 1st 11 numbers.

Last nite's game was really disappointing especially when i heard that Gardner was playing,i got nervous already ! Both Kaboul & Gardner playing together for our opening game, they hardly know each other !
We were really lucky with 0 - 1 it could have been 0 - 2 because Robinson had a good save !....
Was never really impressed with Jenas or Zokora because they can hardly combine together or control the midfield...Jenas can't take free kicks no matter how hard he trys !!!
So easy for our opponents to close out our strikers so JOL need better tactics fast !!!
On paper our team is more impressive & were not hard working enough ! The star players expected others to play harder ! They fall easily to the ground liked Zokora & Tanio ( should sell him !!! )....
What do you SPURS Bros think ?

Read all the latest news that JOL is blaming his strikers & others except his own tactics !
What was the point of taking of BERBA when DEFOE came in & hardly kick the ball !.......If he was trying to please everyone & make them happy,it was a bad decision !!!
Really disappointing that we never learned from last year when we lost several games because we defended poorly during the extra time...
Do you guys really think we can perform much better & break the top 4 this season ??? :(
lungless
12-08-2007, 10:20 PM
hey Andy, it is only the first game. So give JOL some slack k:).....Anyway, i think it is correct of him to be harshed to the players for their lacklustre performance but i do admit that the team selection needs some improvement.
From the onset when they name the starting 11, i knew that Spurs will have problem playing and the strikers will have problem getting supply from the wing play(the most effective way of opening a defence). With no natural wide player and the selection stalteri on the left defence meant that crosses from wide area will be a rarity and needless to mention stretching sunderland defence further will be a rare thingy too......
As the central midfield will be darn packed, it takes a very highly creative player needed to unlock the opponent defence. I was hoping that Taarabt will be included and the midfield to comprise of either zokora and Tainio(for the bite and holding midfield), Taarabt and Keane....yeah keane coz he is an exceptionally creative player too. I think Jenas lacks creativity and his decision making is a bit slow to unlock defence. The strike force i would pair Berbatov and Bent. With Bent exceptionally good in running in the hole, Spurs would be good to draw Sunderland defence nearer to the centre of the park - to allow Bent doing those diagonal runs....since there will not be much wing play anyway....but taarabt is capable of doing that once a while....
Alas it was not meant to be and again Spurs were left wanting at the end again. Gardner defence was horrendous but consolation was that kaboul was good and very comfortable on the ball...ala King himself....
So we shall see our beloved lilywhite pick themselves for the next game!!
No matter what i shall remain a true Spurs Supporter and thus will support Jol as long as he is in the helm!
*Spurs do need to get a naturally wide left midfield player! Comolli, you hear me?! :D and to get it fast!....and guys we need to show respect to our oponents and not belittled them....only then will we be able to achieve something!
and contrary to many people believe, i thought having a utility player in tainio is good for Spurs as he is a trumpcard....that bloke can play anywhere and he is a true Spurs player thru and thru....and we got him thru free agency too...

this sums up the day. :D
AMSTERDAM, Aug 12 (Reuters) - Ajax Amsterdam have accepted a 27 million euro ($36.98 million) offer from Real Madrid for midfielder Wesley Sneijder, the Dutch club said on Sunday.
The 23-year-old Netherlands international, who has played 180 matches and scored 57 goals for Ajax, will sign a five-year contract, the Spanish champions said in Madrid.

I think games are sometimes fixed. Watching the game, the ref made several suspicious decisions. The players seems uninterested and unorganized. Another game lost in the last 5-10 mins of the game due to poor defending. How many games have spurs lost in this manner? For that matter, how many deciding goals are scored in the last 10-15 mins of all premiership games?
Good excuses for the game;1,Sunderland playing with high confidence;2, Spurs have been poor away past 2 seasons.

Yo,Bros Lungless & Nacho !
I'm a really long time SPURS fan & no,i din lost big $$$ bets that upsetted me so much...guessed with all the pre season buildup & expectation was high !
And it's not only me that pointed that JOL got his tactics wrong & still "pulling out my hair" that why we can buy a left winger & JOL still persist to experiment with various players....think the players are also "confused" with their playing role !....
Ok,hope we can play better next game with Everton...we need all the points before playing MANURE !.....
Anyway, glad to know you SPURS FANs !!! :)

and contrary to many people believe, i thought having a utility player in tainio is good for Spurs as he is a trumpcard....that bloke can play anywhere and he is a true Spurs player thru and thru....and we got him thru free agency too...
tainio is quite a cool and all rounder midfielder, but the question is; which position is he best suited for?
Good excuses for the game;1,Sunderland playing with high confidence;2, Spurs have been poor away past 2 seasons.
spurs got a midweek game coming 15-aug wed morning 3am against everton. are the players saving up energy? anyway its white hart lane and there will be no mercy.
spore pools is paying 1.85 for a spurs win. 3.05 to give 1.5ball. go for both. have faith all you lily whites! :D

Spurs have always had a good record against everton, home or away. Should beat everton.
Bookies have this system of bet $1000 win $975 or lose $980 whatever the odds are 1,1&1/2 or 1/2,1. Thats where they catch the punters. The volume of bets make This $20/$30 diff. very big to bookies. Dont know if bros understand what im on about.:)

Yes,Sir ! The next game at Everton is a "must win" at WHL !!!
Earlier one Bro was commented about "kelong" letting a goal in the dying minutes...Think it's not "kelong" but our SPURS players were not "mentally stronger than Roy Keene's team"...They were the "underdogs" so at half time they were happy with a draw & then at the dying minutes...go for a win !!!...
Their players just wanted to prove that "so what SPURS have all the expensive players ?"....Sunderland just wanted to be another Wigan or Reading....newly promoted & want to prove to everyone that they are no walkovers !!!...
And it's really too bad that SPURS had to play them first !...During their goal, several players were just ball watching...the commentator singled out JENAS !....

tainio is quite a cool and all rounder midfielder, but the question is; which position is he best suited for?
I think he is suited as a defensive holding midfielder as he will go and win balls. But Jol is likely to opt him as a right sided, left sided or an attacking midfielder. He even played as a right wing back, which doesnt work. He need to settle down in one position for him to realize his true potential. But at Spurs, th players rarely get that chance to settle in one position, as we have one too many central players, no flankers with the exception of Lennon. Thus, players will be rotated in different positions, ie left midfield. So, Mr Jol and Mr Comolli, splash the dough, get a decent left midfielder please. Watched the highlights of the week's game, was dissapointed that we did not sign Petrov. I thought he was class. Not a bad game at all for a debutant.

It was a tough call on buying Petrov since he had injury history...and since he really didn't want to play for SPURS even after BERBA talked to him, then it's better that he don't play for us !
Hate to dragged this "left sided midfielder or winger" issue for another season,it's really unbalanced !....We need the wing play liked MANURE or CHESKI...or we can't feed BERBA & KEANE or BENT for the goals !!!
Our opponents just crowd the central defence to blocked all our attacks & that will left us really frustrated !!!
Pleaseeeee Mr.JOL,the next player need to be a natural left sided midfield player !!!

I remember when Tainio played with Davids 2 season ago. They were like a pair of Bulldogs...biting and breaking play well in midfield. That is why i think that Tainio is still a valuable player if correctly deployed. I hope that with Boateng and Tainio able to pair up soon, the same effect can achieved and yet with the attacking ability of Boateng, i would think that it will be good. So why not play a diamond formation in midfield(as we are short of a real flanker...hmm, whatever happens to Routledge?)....get Tainio (or zok for that matter) to play Holding Midfield and Boateng on the right, Taarabt on the left and keane in the middle. Strikers will be Berb and Bent first....
For Defence, i think it would be better for Kaboul and Rocha to partner each other(provided Dawson is still out), Right to be Chimbonda and Left to be Gardner as he is a left footer....
It is always interesting!!......but i think we still need a creative left sided midfielder!:)

Sometimes i dun know whether is it because of Mr Levy shrewed business like mind that makes all these so called rumours failed. You know that Levy dun like to pay much and he is good in that sense that Spurs get most players on the cheap under him - except for Bent(cannot blame him as Ipswich needs to be paid as well)....if you notice all the transfer done by Spurs recently they always indicate undisclosed fee....So if our Spurs board try to get a certain player on the cheap, more likelihood that it will not be agreed by the selling club except for some....
I agree with you to get a Left Sided Midfield player!! go grab sneijder under REALs' nose!! haha

Andy, to be honest Jenas is a talented lad but he does not put his weight in all games! Personnally i like Zokora alot. He plays really well for Ivory Coast. The real weakness for both is their Vision, especially Jenas. If both can improve on this they would be in any team. I also like Hudds but im wondering whether the kid works hard coz he seems to put on weight everytime i see him play and although creative, his decision making can be a little slow at time. If he trains hard he will be the man to spray the passes but he is still not the man to hold the midfield together as he sucks in tackles!! haha...maybe he wants to be scholes?!!
This season i hope to see berchiche and dervite plays in defence at some point of time.
I think Berb and Bent will make a better combi than Bent and Defoe will ever be. Coz Bent is a hardworking fella who tracks back and run into spaces very well, just the player that Berbs or Keane can complement! Defoe, needs to able to be in line so as not to be caught offside(his main weakness) but overall finishing i still think that defoe is the best among 4 of them....
Dun worry about the first game! Yes, it was frustrating, but we all love the lilywhites dun we!...let support them all the way!! in good and bad times....

Really liked to see HUDDS more often & ZOKORA having a stronger control of the midfield & JENAS working much.much harder next time !
Same here,i much prefer BERBA & BENT & KEANE playing behind them, that'll be the best ! Playing DEFOE will be a tough call !
Will look forward to the Everton game then ! Cheers ! :)

Hey Bros,
DAWSON still out for 2 weeks so it may be same defence as last sat or ROCHA playing.Actually ROCHA last season tried very hard to make up his not so good early games, there was one game with ARSE or CHESKI i headed the ball poorly & that led to a goal & we lost that game !
So it may take a several games before we can have our best line up playing due to injuries ! :(

Yeah bring Taarabt in! He is the new Zidane after all!....I also agree with u bro, the defence should be Chimbo, Rocha, Kaboul and Gardner on the left. I can never rely on Gradner if he plays CB coz he always give me a minor heart attack! Better for him to play in the flanks. hehe
Sometimes i dun know whether is it because of Mr Levy shrewed business like mind that makes all these so called rumours failed. You know that Levy dun like to pay much and he is good in that sense that Spurs get most players on the cheap under him - except for Bent(cannot blame him as Ipswich needs to be paid as well).
This time I disagree with you bro. I think Levy has been very generous in terms of buying players. Mind you we payed 40 mil for just 3 players this season! And even if we signed Edgar Davids on a free transfer 2 seasons ago, his wage is very high. To me, Mr Levy, Mr Buchler and the ENIC clan is the best board chairmans in the EPL!
Back in the 80s, we were almost bankrupt. Came in Alan Sugar, saved the club from administration and transformed the club fortunes, despite the club being a mediocre club. Then came in Enic and from then on it really changed. So, to say Levy shrewed business like mind, for me, is unfair.
Last sat TANIO was not playing his best, what do you think of JENAS & ZOKORA,it seem that JOL thinks highly of JENAS !
I have said so many times, I aM not a fan of JENAS. To me, he is like our Vinny Samways who plays a simillar game to Jenas. Sometime show talent and brilliance, while most of the time plays a lazy game. Tend to pass the ball wayward and hardly contribute to the team, unless if he gets further up, he would pop up and score a goal or two. Apart from that, he is just a mediocre player.
. I also like Hudds but im wondering whether the kid works hard coz he seems to put on weight everytime i see him play and although creative, his decision making can be a little slow at time. If he trains hard he will be the man to spray the passes but he is still not the man to hold the midfield together as he sucks in tackles!!\
.
I think he is a good holding midfielder. I have been following Hudds progress since he was linked to us and I must say he is a class act. He is actually a center back in nature, but was transformed as a holding MF later on. SO that is why he is strong and are able to win the ball, which is important for todays game. Yeah he does look stocky...that is why he is perhaps the slowest player in the EPL. But that doesnt mean he is not a good footballer. He could pass, win the ball and head. pace doesnt count in his game, just ask Teddy Sheringham....his football brains are is asset and he is as slow as an old morris minor with no fuel....:D
what happened to damien duff? he should be good for spurs.
Duff? I dunno man, u sure u want another sicknote in our team? Dont you have any pity for our physios? :D
JOL to buy DAVIS / WEST BROM,you guys think it'll be a good buy ?
DAVIS- good player, but not worth his price tag! We had a bad experience with Dean Richards, who cost us 8.1mil and he was utter crap. Hope he is well now though. Any news on him? Hows his illness nowadys? Cured?
