I guess he did not view it as a donation. He considered it to be a purchase of the right to run certain sections the way he wanted and when we had a disagreement over what "moderation" actually meant, he asked for his money back.

I have no desire to fight over money. I've never done that in my life. It's not worth the hassle.

Thankfully none of the other donor members have gone down the same route so far. However, I've stopped the practice of awarding moderation powers in exchange for money. It was a mistake on my part to start this scheme in the first place. I have learned my lesson.

you need to have a rep power of > 0

and inorder to have rep power > 0
you need 40 rep points.

You can add points when your power is 0. Unfortunately, the laws of nature dictate that x + 0 = x so the recipient will see no change in his rep points.

1. Everyone starts with 20 reputation points and reputation power of 0. When a reputation score of 40 is reached, reputation power becomes 1.

2. If reputation points drop to 0 or less, moderation starts. However, this is no reason to stop posting. The only difference is that there will be delay before your posts appear as they will have to be cleared from the moderation queue.

3. Number of posts have NO EFFECT on reputation power.

4. 1 point of reputation power is gained every YEAR.

5. ONE Reputation click allowed every 24 hours so award those clicks only when necessary.

6. Reputation spread figure is 1000 which means you have to give reputation to 1000 other members first before you can vote for a particular member again.

7. Flames and off topic posts will result in point deductions from me or my moderator.

8. Reputation votes are secret. In other words, you can vote either way without fear or favour. HOWEVER, those who abuse the system by making vicious attacks and spewing vulgarities anonymously (ie without revealing your nick) will have their nicks exposed and placed under moderation if the victim complains to the moderators. If you want to abuse someone using all sorts of profanities via the reputation system remarks feature, you MUST reveal your nick when doing so in order not to be penalised.

9. Those who use the reputation system to frame innocent parties will be exposed and placed under moderation.

10. Those caught registering multiple nicks in order to build up their "war chest" to abuse the system will be placed in moderation mode.

11. One reputation power is awarded for every 3000 rep points.

12. Reputation points can no longer be awarded/deducted in the following forum.
a) Newbie Issues/Say "Hi"/Testing (http://www.sammyboyforum.com/newbie-issues-say-hi-testing-tech-stuff/) section and
b) Soccer Talk Section (http://www.sammyboyforum.com/soccer-talk/)

13. Posts more than 2 days old cannot be awarded or deducted. There used to be no such limit.

Why is it possible to anonymously zap? I'm getting zapped by assholes who refuse to leave their nicks so I can zap them back. The reason they claim to be zapping me is because I welcome others to post in my random pics thread.

however you have to understand not everyone thinks the same...
while some appreciate your work and have upped you.. ..there will be others who might think otherwise for whatever reason..
one of the reason i could think of is that they might have felt you have infringed copyrights by posting pictures from other webby...
hence they negged you.. e.g this one which u posted.. it says all rights reserved etc...

talking about grievance...i have got people accusing me of zapping them when i didnt do it..
and i have open up PM of insults/abuse to me and my family for i dont even know the reason why..
i have also upped almost 1800 nicks in the past week and received very little " thank you " note and 0 points in return..
if i am going to dwell on such incite.. i would have end up having an heart attack a long time ago...

i also do not need to remind you that what gives those zappers most satisfaction isnt about the fact that they zapped u...
believe me....it is when they see u go bonkers after being zapped.. that is what they enjoyed most..

you can chose to give them their satisfaction or pop a chill pill. ;)

That's their right, I suppose. For example, if they zapped me for the reason you mention, fine. If they have balls they should leave their nicks so I can either accept their zap or not. However, the reasons are clearly a vendetta against another member. It's petty for them to zap me for that. I changed the system so that rep votes were anonymous just like they are in the GE. This allows members to show their displeasure with a zap without having to worry about retaliation.

Since the system was changed, things have been a lot more civilized with only an occasional cases of members like yourself kicking up a fuss.

Another person again complained to me today "WinstonCiggies" also zapped
twice today in my thread for writing a review

They screenshot the comments for me and they are of the same tone written in a
similar way, its probably the same person with multiple accounts

Its like every single post is being zapped in the my thread by this same
person even someone posting about a question for the product gets zapped

There is no evidence of gang zapping and even there was, there is no rule against this.

Action is taken only if there is evidence of clone zapping... ie one member using many clone accounts to add or subtract points.

I think the time has really come to do away with the zapping system, it has no contribution to the forum in anyway just by stirring shit (pardon my french)

Myself also over the years i have seen many people zapped by clone gangs and i believe admin has better things to do then to adhere to clone reports right?

This zapping issue will only affect those with clones, normal users and contributors will have nothing to lose

Sometime even myself i want to post something on the forum, i will say no need to post just pm the person.

There was once i wanted to share a lobang with guys here but then knowing the zapping culture, i just decided not to share because of the clone zaps

So boss do consider do away with the zappings feature, let it rot in the dustbin of history, this forum will go to higher heights if its done away

I'm unable to up anyone like since forever. Is it due to not having points/rep?

The reputation icon doesn't appear on my screen at all. All I can see is just the #post number. Regardless of how recent the post is. Anyway to resolve this?

green button means it is a valid up
red means u have been negged
grey means the other party doesnt have enough rep power to up u but did it anyway..so u wont get the points

How can the forum prosper like that if new members are chased away by hooligans and gang zappers?

Now you see the forums, the adult side and etc, the posting activity getting lesser and lesser, even i rarely post anymore

Hope boss can try to change the points system thing, its becoming silly with mostly kids now.

You don't see this in other sex forums where Mods will clamp down on such activities heavily

I missed the old days of sammyboyforum when there were real adults instead of kiddy fights and zappings currently

I support boss 100% on the zap free zone, for me its the best idea since sliced bread

There is no need to worry for clones as for zapping power to have any effect you need to be power 6 or power 8

For you to be at power 6 or power 8, means you have to have had that account for 6-8 years. I doubt anyone would wait for 8 yrs to zap anyone

Also kudos to the the admin team for coming up with this idea, its really something wonderful

I have already biased the reputation system so that additions are double the subtractions and 99% of people who contribute positively will experience a steady increase in their reputation scores over time even though they may suffer setbacks along the way. You can't win them all.

The reputation system is automated. I can't be expected to micro manage each and every reputation point added or subtracted. I have various scripts running which highlight clone zapping and the use of vulgarities. I also audit the system every few days to see how things are going. However, to expect me to arbitrate each time there is a dispute as to the "validity" of points awarded or subtracted is simply not realistic. I'd need a full time arbitrator to do the job with an appeals board as back up in case the arbitrator's decision was challenged. Perhaps I should hire Yung Pang How to sit on the board since he is now retired and has lots of free time.

I have said this many times before and I'll say it again.. THERE ARE MORE UNEARNED POINTS AWARDED than there are unfair subtractions. If I took on the task of overseeing each and every reputation vote, I would end up deducting many more unfair additions compared to restoring unfair subtractions. Almost every single member would suffer a considerable reduction in their reputation scores.

The system is not perfect.... no system is in this world. However, it brings an additional level of interactivity into the forum which most people enjoy using. If they didn't, there wouldn't be more than 1000 votes cast on a daily basis.

The system is there for the fun of it. Points are worthless. They can't be redeemed for anything. Whether you are 1000 points or -999 makes absolutely no difference to your career, your relationships with your family and friends and your sexual prowess. Just treat the reputation points thing as a cyberspace computer game for that is exactly what it is. :p

Also need to prevent those clones from multiplying .... saw many new nicks with less than 10 posts already have more than 40 points, then after some time they make a few more posts and have power, and the cycle repeat

Notice another pattern is they stop posting after making 9 posts. A few weeks later they made 1 or 2 posts and up themselves to more than 40 points.

You missed the very first item.

1. Everyone starts with 20 reputation points and reputation power of 0. When a reputation score of 40 is reached, reputation power becomes 1.

You only have 20 points. You need to hit 40 or more before your power kicks in.
