Couple win praise for returning $13,400

When they received 65,700 yuan (S$13,400) extra due to a money changer's mistake, an honest couple from China returned the cash to the Chinatown outlet and were lauded for their action.

The couple had asked to exchange 207,300 yuan to Singapore dollars at the Crante Money Changer at People's Park Complex last Saturday.

The money changer mistakenly keyed in 273,000 yuan, converting it as S$55,600 and handing the couple S$13,400 extra in cash, Shin Min Daily News reported yesterday.

The man said in a post on Chinese social media platform WeChat that he called the money changer once they returned home and found out about the mistake.

To be honest, I would love to have that extra cash but my conscience will want me to return. Who know the money exchange owner or staff will be in trouble for losing this money
However if money exchange offer a gratitude monetary reward, I would gladly accept it

A lot of newcomers just post whatever that comes to mind these days. The common sense etiquette of adhering to the forum theme isn't very common nowadays.

What this PRC couple was very unusual to me because I found many PRC people in Singapore to be cheaters, bad service providers, rude and nasty. The Indian moneychanger should give them a reward and a framed certificate of honesty and appreciation.

Have you met PRC girls walking around in neighbourhoods here, faraway from Geylang. They spit out their sob stories that they lost their money or that they're poor and can you give them some money since you're a nice man. I met one of them. I answered I could give her $80 if I remember. I went on that she go to a hotel room with me. She didn't want and walked off.

Not all PRC are bad... some are quite honest like the couple in this thread news and some are quite humble, of course there will always be a few black sheeps going around...

Some PRC even got cheated by coming to SG for work, I know of 1 such PRC who was a university graduate from engineering and he was told that he will come to SG and operate "sophisticated machinery with very high pay".... end up when he really come to SG, he have to work for NTUC to deliver goods via trolley and miserable pay

put it another way, there are so many cctv pointing at them, if they file a police report, it would be enless trouble for the couple too.

Police cannot do anything, because what happen between seller and consumers is not a chargeable offence

At most the police will ask the money changer if they want to sue in civil court
