It is undoubtedly a hammer blow to Western Sydney, who have grown accustomed to Popovic’s brand of steadfast football. There’s experience in the defence, variety in midfield and numerous options in attack. The Wanderers, who were AFC Champions League winners in 2014, won just four A-League home fixtures last season. They will have to improve on that should they fancy a serious title challenge.
