To all brothers working in Batam,

Please be on the watch out for the local police and govenment Pemko, it is reported on Batam post that there are alot of "illegal" working foreign workers here. They are going to check on those who do not have legal working status.

Just for info, you need to have valid KITAS and submit tax every year, to be legally working here. There are certain angencies who make fake KITAS at a much lower price than the real ones with lots of $$$ involved.

Another althernative is to apply for business visa, and when you come to batam, go to the police post and declare that you are staying in Indonesia for a period of time. That will cost 20k rupiah each time. Of course, go home when your passport chop is about to end. Mind that there is a catch for busness visa, for you are allowed to stay for 183 days without having to pay FISCAL or 500k rupiah exit tax. To apply a business visa, you have to have a company who is willing to sponsor you. And you got to indonesian embassy in Orchard road to apply for the visa, cost I think about 1 juta.

Mean while, for those who are cheonging here, remember to go as a group, as security here is not as good as in the past. Police have no casino income and are likely to conduct more " money making" checks.
