was a miracle that crouch can score a hattrick in the gunner match...he really shows the manager wat he can do.

Such a loser... :D

Never liked him.

Yah, he is a damn loooooooooooooser. Always whining on air. If I remembered correctly, he used to support another team and then switched to Arsenal. One of those fair weather fans.

Wonder what lovely Jamie see in him !!!

Yeh, me too. I liked it a lot. But it was very messy at the beginning. We lost a lot of balls in the middle. I think becos the players aren't very used to it yet.

it is expected when a team changes to a new formation. guess rafa was still working during the international break, eh? but i sincerely feel that this is the best formation as it is very flexible and it matches rafa's expectations of a strong defence. if we can get mascherano, then there is cover for alonso. in this formation, the 2 defensive midfielders r the key. madrid played well in this formation until they stupidly sold away makelele and in its position came beckham.

When I read the first sentence, I was like scratching my head ...... then I understood.

Bro, gotta agree with you man. How many times in the past we had to keep relying on Stevie G to lift the team along. He did not have a particularly good game -- can see that he looked a bit lethagic prob becos of the England games. But finally, we are seeing that the rest of the team is also pulling their weight. Let's hope we can continue to do it, but, we also want Stevie to play very well too
i m extremely happy that gerrard didnt play well but liverpool still won big against a big team. that only means that liverpool can only get better. i'd rather save stevie g until when he is really needed. bear in mind that when rafa played this formation in valencia, a mediocre striker, mista, was the top scorer of that season, 30+ goals i think and it brought the best out of a formerly unknown defensive midfielder by ruben baraja. only meant that actually, the strikers r probably going to get more chances and the midfielders will have a field day arriving in the box late... all the best to liverpool from now on.

whatever u do, never bet with me cos i m irrational when i bet. i will never bet against a liverpool loss. i could never bring myself to win $ and bet on a liverpool loss. will be too miserable to spend that kind of $. rather have my conscience. with that, i m predicting a 2-0 win, within 2 goals coming from 2 swift counterattacks, led by the most complete player in the world right now.;)

YNWA!!!

Anyone still remember when rafa brough his valencia team to anfield and they tore us with their style of play...:D

but arsenal was somehow off colour last night though....think they are over reliant on henry, just like we were too dependant on gerrard some time back...

Spot-on Bro! Rafa's Valencia was like a MACHINE... attacked as a whole and defended as a whole, can't really pick out great individuals, but it was a great team... Once Rafa perfects this Pool team, it WILL be even better than Valencia of the past...

Lucky we showed on the nite that even without Stevie G, we could still score and go on to win the match... Unlike certain teams now... ;)

I'd hold the champagne bro. We are all ecstatic about the result but let's not forget we played with 1 striker and 5 in midfield. Are we sure that's better than 4-4-2? Crouch had a great game no doubt but we have seen how 4-5-1 have bombed in the past, especially in away games. Those are questions that I suspect will resurface in the future.

Of course, all Liverpool fans will be estatic with the result. However, not my intention to be a wet blanket but, Arsenal was missing 2 key players in Henry and Gilberto.

Thus, I will have to agree with bro Rahl about whether 4-5-1 is better then the 4-4-2 formation in the long run. Probably, the gaffer saw a weakness in Arsenal's flank and went with the 4-5-1 formation. In my opinion, I see Liverpool as a team with a 2 striker formation. I would really love to see Liverpool playing a 3-5-2 formation:

Reina [GK]
Carragher [DC], Hyppia [SW], Agger [DC] (Need to buy more centre backs)
Aurelio or Riise [LWB], Finnan or Arbeloa (Hopefully we can buy Alves) [RWB]
Alonso [DM], Mascherano or Momo [DM]
Gerrard [AM]
Kuyt or Crouch [FW], Bellamy or Fowler [FW] (Hopefully we can add Villa)

Just my personal humble opinion :D

which is why i said in the same post u quoted that the 2 defensive midfielders r key to a good performance. previously, when liverpool played with this formation, they stucked gerrard in the middle to support the midfield, whereas the formation i m so keen to see is gerrard is actually more of a support striker... the previous formations of such was when rafa crammed the central midfield area with 3 players to stop the flow of the opponents, in order to stop them from playing a flowing game. my contest here is that liverpool played a 4-2-3-1 rather than a 4-5-1 that is so commonly misconstrued. if u looked closely, gerrard didnt really drop too deep to help defend. that to me, is the key difference, but it is just me.

by the way, champagne for me???:D

no offence bro picu, not only u r going to get sued by bro R-K-O,;) u r going to get screwed if liverpool plays a 3-5-2 formation! predominantly, english clubs play with wingers. although there arent many good ones around, giving them time on the ball in the wings will be a big no-no although it looks damn good though in attack. just my personal opinion and no offence meant.

True but Baptista and the others aren't exactly a pushover also. Looked at how the Arsenal youngsters played against Chelsea in the Carling Cup?

I think even if Henry and Gilberto played, we would still have won, probably by a lower score.

The 4-5-1 or 4-2-3-1 means that of the 4 strikers we have, only one will be happy. Hmmm ...... doesn't make for a happy house leh. Strikers tend to complain a lot more than other players.

Me ask a stupid question -- How about 3-2-3-2? Got this kind of formation or not? the 3-2 at the back will give enough cover and the 3-2 up front will give enough fire power. But I guess this will be at the expense of the width?

Anyway, to be expected, Rafa will likely not retain the same formation for the next game.

Cheers

No offence take bro _AXL_, like I said I would love to see it but I guess the formation is not pragmatic due to the lack of left and right midfielders. Unless we have SUPER wingers :D

LOL. Didn't said they were pushovers but Baptista's finishing was erm... and they did hit the post twice... They seriously lack the leadership and experience which is very evident. Was just justifying that maybe 4-5-1 works against a "lesser" Arsenal team but may not be equally successfully against a full strength one. No doubt we will still win which I agree with you! :D

Hope Rafa's chosen formation for the next match against PSV will work as well as the previous one!

yah, looks like everyone cluster f**k in the middle, quite easy to defend and attack against as well... maybe u want to explain more about how u line them up???

Potaeto, potarto ;)

I'm quite well aware of Stevie, Alonso and Mascherano's roles in midfield against Arsenal. But however you put it, we still had 5 in midfield and 1 striker. It doesn't sidestep the question of playing 2 strikers instead of one. Crouchie won't score a hat trick every game (or a header even!).

Re: Liverpool Fc @ Anfield - Reds Supporters Gatherings

Who cares if we were 'lucky'.... how many matches have we lost being 'unlucky'.

To beat any team 4-1 is great... to do it against arsenal, our main rival for 3rd spot is Fantastic. Crouch surprised me again... a Hat-trick.. wah liao

This being said, the danger of Pool is that we get carried away... still lots of work to secure 3rd place and CL spot, and to win the CL.

BTW... having two DM is a good strategy... but must have correct team balance. Brazil played this to win their last world cup, as having a solid defence ( well, we all know that Brazillian Centreback need lots of help... hehehe) , and quick wingbacks/fullbacks to join attacks with midfield and striking brilliance of Ronaldinho, Rivaldo, Ronaldo, Kaka, Robinho (those were the days) can unlock any defence....

i couldnt stop laughing with yr potato swipe. reminds me of a former US vice president dan quayle, on national tv, spelt it as potatoe!!!:D that's what i call "stupidity breeds contempt"

think if we meet up, we can talk and argue all nite... not that it is a bad thing though!!! the wingers r extremely important cos they have to double up as auxilliary support strikers when gerrard joins up with crouch (or whoever) in the box. valencia had vicente and rufete (pls dont ask me to explain him, i cannot fathom as well) and they were chipping their share as well. not to mention aimar (gerrard) chipped in with impt goals. but the crux came from baraja (alonso), the defensive midfielder who was banging goals outside the box.

if u ask me, crouch would be more of a foil. let's not kid ourselves, liverpool doesnt have a striker who will make opposing defenders pee in their pants before kickoff... they have to address this issue...

therefore, i feel that pool can play this formation and it would be greatly strengthened if rafa got the guy he has been chasing since he is at liverpool, joaquin...;)
