Actually BR has been trying to get a goalie in early when the transfer window opened but no one wanted to come. Valdes was a "no fish prawn oso can" bopian last choice after all the others turned down Liverpool's approach.

yes...big news last min deal... Falcao agreed to be loaned to MU rather than sold to MC or Arsenal...heard RVP going for surgery and will be out for a period...:)

Falcon was ready to come to any BPL club that was willing to match his salary demands. MC & Arsenal baulked at the amount and Liverpool offered £200K maximum.... but Falcao wanted that amount to be tax free and for Liverpool to pay his taxes which they were not willing to accede to... so the deal was off.

In fact Man Utd is only matching his previous salary at Monaco which is £188K but when the taxes are factored in the amount swells to £350K ....... good luck to Man Utd and the Glazers

To be honest, Falcao probably chose United over Liverpool because United is a bigger club with a bigger budget(able to meet his salary demands). Same reason why Di Maria also joined United.

I always say in this thread....modern football is all about money. Dun believe in, what playing in champion league will attract top players, good rep will attract top player :D Only minority footballers play not because of money.

Liverpool is in Champion League, Liverpool rep is not on the bottom and yet no top player is willing to go to Liverpool, why?? Cause Liverpool is not crazy to pay high salary.

Ask another Arab rich company to buy QPR, Leicester or whatever lower rep team. Throw in a billion... a season or 2, these teams will be challenging the title too. Man City, PSG are a good example. These teams can attract top players. :D

Look through Valdes's resume. He is a proven winner and will not come cheap. To sign him as a 2nd goalkeeper will drain our finances. Valdes rejected a Barcelona contract extension and then run down his Barcelona contract to be a free agent. He won't be doing all these things in order to be a 2nd goalkeeper. He will want high wages plus a guaranteed starting spot in whichever team he eventually joins.

Valdes has proven record..my personal opinion is mignolet should be 2nd choice if VV does join us ...yes, mignolet is still young, but too shaky since last year till now for my liking ..;)

SM is young and will improve...needs to play more in order to improve...victor valdes also had poor games which was heavily criticized...:)

Yes, good insight bro. So somehow BR needs to address these issues, if not Reds may be in big trouble with regards to the top 4 battle , now made even more interesting and tougher with the sudden arrival of Falcao at United.

wat can falcao alone do...that team is in a shambles,i m surprised that they did not sort out thier defence..i guess he came on loan cos he is angling for a move to RM....he might be gone in jan.u nvr know.

Agree that Falcao would probably prefer to be at Real Madrid if he had the choice. But that said he is now at United. What happens at the next transfer window no one knows and don't forget FFP at play which might explain the loan deal? Moreover I hardly think he is "alone" like you say. There is Di Maria, Van Persie , Rooney in attack plus Mata ; Herrera and Blind ; Shaw, Rojo, Jones and Rafael; De Gea and Lindegaard.

Granted United have started the season poorly and yes their defence still needs to be sorted but once that above team get's up and running, I would be surprised if the goals don't start coming their way. Anyone writing United off the battle for a top 4 CL qualification position is doing so at their own peril.

And since you raised the issue of United's defence, do you think Liverpool's dodgy defence problems last season have been properly sorted out?

I think BR had brought in Lovren, Manquilo, Moreno for defence...keeping Sakho, Skrtel and Toure...:)

tell me...which team defence is good...chelski let in 3 goals against Everton...do you think Swansea, Aston Villa, or Man City defence is good...

is Real Madrid, Barcelona or Bayern Munich defence really good...

I'm very sure Brendan Rodgers and the playing squad are well aware of the problem we had least season, and that is conceding a lot of goals. Goals may win you games but it is a solid defence that win you championships. I've watched some of Brendan Rodgers' conference and he did mention repeatedly that the target this season is to improve on the defence and increase the number of clean sheets.

In terms of defensive personnel, I would say Brendan Rodgers did bring in enough for the campaign.

- Dejan Lovren (CB from Southampton)
- Kevin Stewart (LB from Tottenham)
- Javier Manquillo (RB on loan from Atletico Madrid)
- Alberto Moreno (LB from Sevilla)

Right now, we do have at least 2 quality players in each positions.

LB - Jose Enrique and Moreno
RB - Glen Johnson and Manquillo
CB - Skrtel, Lovren, Sakho and Toure

Jon Flanagan can cover both flanks but I see him more as a long term replacement for Glen Johnson.

Just based on the first 3 epl matches of this season, I would say nothing much has changed from last season, the Reds defence still looks iffy and dodgy. Naturally I hope BR and his team will change things around, sooner the better.

As for other teams' defences you mentioned, don't think it is relevant to the issue I raised bro. As a Reds fan I am more interested in the performance of Liverpool's defence.
