Try some other hotels. Safe to travel to pubs alone, not an issue. Better to do so after Aug 17. Taxi fare will be rather heavy, from your place. |
Re: Batam Info Thread

Best to give a miss. 8 August hari raya idu fitri, thursday, their new year. 9 is National Day, alot of traffic both ways from singapore to indo and malaysia. Very crowded. 10 or 11 likely the date they MAY start working, but stock is limited, due to some not yet returning from their kampong. 12 -17 Aug not really open yet for business. Massage and pick up joints having their stocks returning, most people still travel during this period, some returning from kampong. 19 Aug is the date where most business will return to normal. During this period, not much working, other than factories or govenment. Hope this helps |

Indonesians angered over hard-line Ramadan raids
Report from AP dated 29 July 2013 :-
Indonesians angered over hard-line Ramadan raids JAKARTA (AP) - Moderate Muslims in Indonesia have called for the disbanding of a hardline Islamic organisation after a pregnant woman was killed in a car accident as the group conducted illegal raids to curb prostitution during the holy month of Ramadan. The Islamic Defenders' Front, known by its Indonesia acronym FPI, has a long record of vandalising nightspots. Aqil Siradj, chairman of the Nahdlatul Ulama, Indonesia's largest Muslim organisation, said on Monday that he has called on the government to break up the group. The latest incident occurred on July 18 in central Java's Kendal town. About 50 FPI supporters attempted to raid an area they believed was allowing prostitution. ----- KatoeyNewsNetwork |

I have seen before they going into pubs, KTVs and other entertainment areas, and smash everything, saying that it is against islam, and they are doing the right thing. It is about time that they learn that a country is rule by the law of the nation, not by the talks of some one who wants to be a hero during religious seasons. |

Prostitute - making money, she is happy Client - having great pleasure and release, he is happy OKT - making money, he is happy win win win situation for all. Why would anyone go against that, since all parties involved are happy about it  if some contribution from vice trade made to this FPI, wonder they will guard or raid :D |
