Although chinese indonesian constitute a small percentage of the population in indonesia, however majority of their votes to jokowi was critical in the result of a minor victory. Therefore every single vote counts. :p
Just like in malaysia during last year election, the opposition pakatan rakyat party consisting of PKR+DAP+PAS for the first time in malaysian history opposition party managed to win many parliamentary and state seats in the country and even won the popular vote of 51% as compared to the ruling party Barisan nationals 49% due to many chinese voters supporting the opposition.
But in terms of number of seats the BN is still leading and therefore BN is still the ruling party of malaysia.
Malaysia and indonesia election system is different because malaysia follow the british system of parlimentary seats to determine the victory whereas indonesia go by the number of votes of the presidential election. Malaysia unlike Indonesia is not a republic and there is no president. It is based on a monarchy system.
Therefore the minority chinese voters are potentially significant in determining the victory of an election in msia and indonesia. :) |
