I remember theres this senior who said that hes been cheonging for so many years be it Tg Pinang, Batam, Tg batu or balai. Had spent thousands of dollars over those period of cheonging. He learned the hard ways...con by taxis, ceweks, OKT etc. Its an expensive experience but worthwhile.

So each time whenever newbies from here asked to tag along with him, this senior would only oblige if newbies willing to sponsor ferry ticket. Very upfront. Thats his style. Bottom lines is theres no such thing as free lunch.

I believe Seniors or veteran here would know who the above bro is.
Clue..hes an ex member of sniper69:D

Rezeki IMHO is still the best among all places I been to. Place is windy n nice ambience, food is good, and price can always ask for discount( don't quote my name), no one knows. But they know me, I regular there. So they give discount. up to 10%.

Golden prawn is more catered to outsiders.

Harbour Bay is due to convenience. Food is so so, but spare you the time to travel to Rezeki. Food court seafood? Not worth it. Maybe when drinking with kakis, I order some food just to eat and have drinks

I wont be bother eating seafood in Batam if I have to pay myself. It is expensive (compare to JB and Thailand) for the live seafood and not as fresh if you go to food court places like A2 food court. The only decent seafood I had in Batam and paid by Customer is near this Barelang Bridge..super far from Nagoya..but quite decent.

Normally I will eat at this fish soup stall opposite BCS Mall though it is only available from Morning to lunch. Best I had is the Yam fish head soup. Even their steamed promfret are awesome and cheaper than those Golden Prawn seafood restaurant.

For Dinner near Harbour Bay, check out Bella Italia if you into Italian food. The best and affordable woodfired pizza and risotto nearest to Singapore. Their Tiramisu is to die for..not sure if standard still there or not.

Rezeki also fresh. You pick the seafood live and they prepare for you.

Thanks for the info. will try the Italian food next time.

I been warned enough about bad seafood in Batam food court, so will avoid.

I find seafood cheaper and fresher in Batam than JB, maybe those I go in JB are meant more for Singapore hence the higher price. e.g. tian Lai or Chua Kee.

Personally, I enjoyed the seafood in Rezeki very much, even those in Golden Prawn wasn't bad. 1 tip from someone in this thread, is alway choose your live seafood rather than order from the menu.

Never venture around BCS before, will go try the fish soup.

There are a few fish soup in batam worth trying.

Istimewa fish restaurant is good. But prices have gone up quite a bit. But still good. There are 2 branches. one in Batam Centre and the other in Nagoya.

Sea food in foodcourt? Rather not order them. Maybe few plates of finger food like cumi cumi when drinking w kakis.

Better to cheong alone. Or with very close reliable kakies.

Those days very green horn. Whatever group leader suggest we just follow. Cos very curious and wish to know how Tg Pinang is. But after some solo trip or with my own kakies, then we realised we kena chop carrot head. Is a learning experience those days. But nowadays newbies very lucky. Got internet and bro nono1973 bookmark for references.

One very expensive lesson we learnt was we were recommended to stay in a hotel for S$20. KNN the room was like Petain rd ST room.

Interesting question!

I don't know anything about this particular group leader, but that part about "...Whatever group leader suggest we just follow...." is quite revealing as newbies (and even non-newbies come to think of it!!) just by instincts follow anybody who takes charge.

This I see ESPECIALLY happening on mongering forays overseas as foreigners do tend to stick together as a sort of primal need for pack-protection when in strange landscapes. And oh, this "bonding" of guys who are out together on monkey business - amazing how even the most sensible can suddenly trust someone he just met!

And even these group leaders - I've also seen how some guys who did NOT start off wanting to take advantage of anybody transform into full fledged undercover agents. They start off just organizing mongering forays, take charge as nobody else takes up the job, handle the money which everybody trust him with, realize that establishments he takes his group to treats him special, and at the end of the trip, everybody not only thank him, they lavish praise on him!

Grateful guys treating him to the odd meals/drinks, the few dollars odd change from rough splitting of bills (which nobody is concerned about) etc. turns into meaningful sums, and then comes the hush-hush entreaties from providers - and PRESTO, the birth of an undercover agent!!

Problem with me, none of my friends drink.. or chiong... so I am forced to do it alone.

The thing is most newbie don't mind.. or have that Pay to learn mentality.

Ok if they really learn, but some got cheated and learned it the hard way.

This just confirms that you ain't gonna turn into any kind of agent anytime soon! Ooops!

I've seen the meekest, non-drinking/smoking/carousing mice turn into party animals within a ridiculously short period of time at the "guidance" of agents. So easy to make zeroes to think they're heroes.... whilst robbing them blind! LOL
