Batam Trip Report November 2006.
Recently I have stayed at the Formosa hotel on my trips to Batam. On this occasion I tried the junior suite,445k a day from KAHA.This is a much better room, recently refurbished, well worth the extra cost,if you can afford it.
The bad news is that two of the karaokes have closed due to bankruptcy,Crown and Hollywood.
This must be due to a decline in visitors.
Personally,I think it is a mistake for cheongsters not to discuss as much as before Batam nightlife.
I think the loss of gambling and forced closure of the karaokes in Tanjung Pinang is more to do with the muslims in Jakarta than the antivice. The muslims get there information from the ground, not the internet.
My recommendation is to continue the promotion of visiting Batam on this board.

Batam
This is very simple logic, no business ---> pasti tutup!

Tg Pinang
Maybe I am a bit out of touch, but never know Tg Pinang has gambling den or casino that cater for visitors from SG / MY.

The religious people in JKT has so much influence that forced KTVs in Tg Pinang to tutup? This I not sure. However, its true that there is a sect of staunch religion believers who reside in an area in Tg Pinang (if you go to famous chinese resturant near the river you would sure need to pass by their site), even the normal local residents would not want to offend them.

No. KAHA does not exist there.

However, there is a tour company which does hotel bookings. My advice, don't bother using them.

The last time I was there, asked them for hotels, told me that ALL hotels booked. Pressed them about my regular hotel (Melia) and was told that only Suites available. And wanted to charge me like SGD160/- per night.

I said no thanks.

Took a cab to Melia (overcharged too) and asked the front desk. Many rooms were still available. But sadly because it is direct booking, it's about $20/- more than KAHA.
