Sorry brother.. somehow missed your post. Getting old. LOL.

Am not a particular fan of Korean cuisine. As it's generally laden with preservatives and MSG . I can't tahan.

And unfortunately, no brother. Still not able to find a good jap resto here in Batam (yet). Good in-terms of quality* and price**.

* Quality as in what SG "high end/popular" restos dish out.

** Price as in affordable to *Batam standards* where a minimum-wage local man can take his wife and kids to enjoy *quality cuisine once/twice a month.

Thus is my hunt in Batam : to find those resto gems. Have already found one (fusion fine dining), and another (vegetarian resto). Seafood - yes but is far - Tanjong Piayu. Hence, am gonna zoom in onto your recommendation Marine Seafood like a Tomahawk next week . Will ask you for recommendation then.

Update : Made a phone call to a local friend - a korean-food fan.

She recommends : DAE JANG GEM Resto. It's situated in the Rosedale residential estate (Batam Center), which is directly opposite the Palm Springs residential estate.

Go through the main gate, at the first junction turn left. It's a corner (hook) house.

If you do try it - please let me (us) know how it works out.

1. Happy Massage 8 (mentioned in a number of my posts over last few months)

2. Memory KTV (lousy mami with bad attitude, keep asking for tip)

3. MM Massage (papi gives the 3 bonk rules)

As according the Batam Cheong list :

http://sammyboyforum.com/showthread....6580&page=2009

My 3 least fav joints in btm is none other than -

1. Happy Massage 8 - Me & 3 friends go there book 1 girl each ard 3 mths ago,knn all of them like got so many rules & regulations,no bj no kissing, some even no touching of neh neh.Their price also not cheap hor, each at least 1 mil rp onward. The worst one is the 1.25 mil rp girl.

2. Bunga Massage - i had a feeling this place is another Happy Massage 8 branch,so far girl still ok jus a bit pricier than most booking joints. Similar price like happy 8.

3. Indah2 - Also play the 3 fuck rules but lucky didn't run back joint, papi has no control ovr girls service quality. Girls tends to chu pattern to make customer angry so they will kena send back. Most girls need to see a doc. :D

I only give the above comment base on after making at least 2 booking from each joint on grp trips over a period of 3-4 mths. Must say in advance, least fav joint doesn't means there's no good girls there. Jus not many tat suits me & unless other joint not many girls, otherwise i wn't visit the 3.

I note a long series of posts lately about finding good Korean and even Japanese restaurants in Batam.
No doubt one needs a good advice to find that.
But, for the sake of goodness, WHY one should come to Batam and look for Korean or Japanese food??
I understand if you live in Batam and want to change taste, but since most people on this forum comes from the other side of the sea, I say:
ENJOY GOOD INDO FOOD!
You are in the right place for that... Enjoy local and wait to be back to S'pore to eat Korean.

Your friend kind of Seafood includes what? And must be "live" seafood anot. Coz IF want live seafood, the food courts only have live crabs, some fish. Want things like lobster or more kinds of fishes n prawns, sotong, must go to the kelongs liao. Nearest to town is Golden prawn and the other one besides it. Thou most say golden prawn is more expensive, which is true to some extend, they are nearer, saves time, and so far I tried they make better lobster salads, but u must tell n tell them dun over-cooked the lobster.

If your friend just want some crabs, <>< and dun demand them to be "live", just go to the Winsor food court, nearer to Harmoni, and somewhat "clean". I like the 1st stall, nearest to the stage n playground, but when the stage comes alive I sianz 1/2... lol. But I think you guys will not go so late.
That stall I suggest get their curry fish head, and curry wild boar meat. Then can steam some flower crabs or some chili crab. Want steam <>< also can lor, see what they have and ask the mei mei to recommend what is good and fresh to steam that day. Then few stalls away also have BBQ fish, or sotong. And you guys can eat other indo food also. I always aim fried tahu when in batam , everywhere also have, as long as they sell fired chicken, if encounter with good chili....song song gao jurong. :D

Blackpage, perhaps you may be unaware, but we have plenty of Indonesian food readily available in Singapore, and more often than not, the taste is better than that found in Indonesia because of the quality of the raw food products available in Singapore. I'm sure it's somewhat different for you given that u hail from Europe (nasi padang is probably as rare as striking gold), but for us in the region, Indo food is not uncommon.

Many of us also head to Batam very often, some as often as once a week. Having a variety of food choices and cuisine is a no-brainer; I don't know about u, but I'm not too inclined to eat nasi padang/nasi goreng/bakso/ikan bakar/ayam penyet for every single meal. FYI, I am in batam 4 times a week for a total of abt 12 days in a month..

Apply this analogy to women; I'm sure u don't go to the same joint and call the same gal every single time U're in Batam, right...?

My two cents' worth....

Not all nasi padang are the same.. Different shops have different taste. Taste better in singapore? I don't feel so.

From someone who couldnt take Sea Food and can only READ this thread (and online reference) when it comes to Sea Food restaurant,i find the Rezeki appears to be one of the BEST Sea Food restaurant shared here from a long time ago. It is very very far away from the usual cheonging place where most will stay away, hence has very little tourist visiting it. Its been around in Batam for about 32 years and yet not a tourist reliant restaurant. It is at :

[CENTER]Batu Besar, RT.01/RW.02, Nongsa, Batam

Tel: +62 <censored> or +62 <censored>

Mon – Sun: 10.00AM – 10.00PM

In total agreement. EVERYTHING IS GOOD, except steam fish. Simply put it, the malays don't know how to steam the fish to my taste. Try the banana wrap fish, it is recommended.

Price wise is also reasonable. Just take note that this place is frequented by high profile people at times too, and can be crowded when there is a booking.

Sat/Sunday, if you go too late, there may not be prawns left... Sold out.

Rghtly so towards the infrequent batam visitor. For the frequent visitor (at least 9 days per month. Each month), it's different. To such visitors, local indo cuisine is already a given. Hope ur question is addressed.

And John... The Sederhana at kepri mall is indeed better than other branches. Because it's the main kitchen for all their branches (HQ kitchen).
