The entire surrounding around Gideon Hotel and BCC Hotel is a Food paradise,hehehe...whether breakfast, lunch or dinner, even for supper too... :D

* Don't buy food that you see that has no customer traffic or little customer traffic ie the food has been sitting there for long time. Bacteria has set-in and started to have their orgy already. When picking food, always go with the local crowd mentality, ie.e go to the stalls that the locals go to. Locals knows best.
* Make sure you eat fully cooked/microwave/grilled meat food i.e make sure they reheat it up again even its already cooked before. For Nasi Padang in Indo, i know the food are left on the shelves. Make sure there are nets covering the shelves & food.
* Don't take any un-bottled sauces or gravies, if you are worried. If it don't taste good w/o gravy e.g. satay, then just take lesser loh.
* Finally, common sense. Although some say common sense is not so common, so maybe refer to Nono's recently listed a few threads ago (#30534) "guildline on how to pick the almost 'right' girl". ;) Also the personal hygiene of the kitchen staff(s), no matter whether u eat at cafe or street stalls, its will be a "lucky" draw for the unlucky stomach.
* Lastly, if all things failed, bring & take charcoal pills or Po Chai pills (for those old timers will know this item) and drink a lot of bottled water.

1. I dont take drinks with ice in cup and constantly remind friends not to do so,hehehe...

2. My food must go thru at least 100 degree Celsius of cooking. Thats why i dont fancy Japanese raw food unless they are completely cooked.

3. In case of emergency, like diarrhea ,flu or any sickness when in Batam, there is always medicinal help..and that is why Formosa is the place to stay, everything all under one roof. Mostly covered, except if one needs viagra, unless one is looking for Jamu...lol.

Just Noted: Nono's new food places and listing. Pictures of food looks so tempting and yummy and safer i guess.

Safe is only when food is completely cooked from my perspective. The food is tempting even to me...thats why coming trip i am going to try it out,hehehe...they are simple food, but most simple food are better than those from Sillypore. But thats already enough for me.

I always have the beliefs that any bacteria that goes thru 100 degree Celsius wont survive (unless the food is over-chemically processed).

Hi guys any info about golden view hotel? I will be staying there next week, but can't seem to find info about nearby places to eat or entertainment.. Any bros can enlighten? And are there many singaporeans around that area?

Read the map below, the one in Blue is Golden View Hotel :

Those in Red are other hotels.

Now just make a small wild guess, where are most of the entertainment places and eating places after looking at the map now?

Since you will be staying in Golden View Hotel next week,i am almost sure you know how to book the hotel, which will also means you will know how to find the map. Wish you luck in your coming trip and reading is going to help you in your coming trip.

Sincerely hope you havent already book your hotel if your objective to Batam are mainly for entertainment.

Cheers!

I really like the slower pace of Batam, where everybody dont rush here and there, unlike Singapore. and theres no need of traffic lights, although 5 years ago theres much less honking. Didnt really like how the local keep pressuring u to bring you to the joints so not really advisable to go alone. Movie in the afternoon was awesome. Not much people and the theatre is up to standard. They even got couple seat covers that they removed for u if u choose couple seats. By the way,how much do houses usually cost in batam?

In the meantime, any suggestions from u or fellow bros are welcome :D.

My plan would consider the following:
1. Hotel wifi not important; just a good budget hotel near massage, pubs and food courts(he cannot walk too far)
2. He only wants a slim good looking girl to keep him company for drinking sessions. Maybe bring him to KTV or pubs where girls will accompany him?
3. 1 massage session for him for novelty sake...he's a drinker, thus, probably not so important for him ;)

Having re-read Bro Nono's FRs and others....my tentative plan, which is base on my `sifu' condition and needs, just stay at Formosa Hotel and patronize Alisan KTV on 4th level as sifu likes to drink and have pretty girl's accompany. Massage optional, thus, Kings massage parlour should do...or can try Indorasa or Delta spa? Foodwise, will patronize nearby hotel. Booking girl overnite will be out since `sifu' can no longer make it.

Bros,

I got lobang for Batam Fast ferry tix to Harbour Bay for only $41.. To and fro, all taxes inclusive. Save $7, if ure like me the thrifty type and want to get the tix, I can pass u the seller's contact.. I know Batam Fast got limited departure timings to and fro Batam, but I don't know if other ferry operators can get at this price. Very responsive seller and can meet u at very short notice.. Bro not too late if you booked through online agent, you can try to cancel your reservation by paying penalty or no penalty at all if you are lucky.

Even if you needed to pay some penalty to the Agent/Hotel, i would say its fine as you will be saving lots of Taxi Money if you were to be staying nearer to the entertainment.

FYI, i have friends who had paid 50k for taxi from Nagoya Hill to Lucky Plaza, your hotel definitely will cost more per taxi trip :p

Nevertheless, the choice is up to your hand and there are many other ways to save "taxi fare", all you have to do is read the previous 100 pages or PM Bro NoNo :D

I tried the Japanese food (sushi) here before. Cleaness Standard is there. So far no problems.

Depend on where u choose for housing. Can range from 300 M rupiah to 11 Billion ( Permata Baloi),

Honking? I have to admit the traffic now days is much worse than in the past. The traffic hours are just horrible.

Btw, looks like I will hve to come out from retirement as I met up with my `sifu' who intro Batam/Tanjong Pinang to me 20 over years ago. He wanted to visit Hatyai for the last time but I persuaded him to go to Batam if he really want to `chiong' for one last time and one of the important reason I suggested Batam is bec he is no longer mobile and need a walking stick to move around.

Hmm...this is gonna be tough,bro.

I think i can only suggest the rest and relax method.

1. Stay in Formosa Hotel next tues if you plan one night (i dont recommend a Monday tho).

2. Foot reflexology in Kings Massage on the 4th floor of the Hotel (morning).

3. Lunch at Mickey Mouse Bat Kut Teh. Out from Hotel front door, turn right and go straight, you will see lucky plaza, which is the building beside Formosa Hotel...walk further down to the next building and continue to walking till you see Mickey Mouse (look right side). Approximately about 300 steps.

4. After lunch, walk back to Hotel. It should be around 2pm by now. If you wanna catch a drink in day time, you will need to walk out of Formosa Hotel front door again, instead of turning right, turn left and you should see Dynasty 99 KTV at about 70 steps away. Yes,its open for business after 1pm and 2 pm+ should be the right timing to touch this place. But its a crappy open air air-con KTV,where you can drink with some MILF around for some TCSS (i dont go there to do what i say cos i dont speak Bahasa Indo/Malay language).

5. Alternatively,if day time KTV drinking is out. You all can go to each other's room,TCSS a bit before heading to Kings Massage at the 4th floor for an hour of massage (90k/hr). Not keen on going to king massage again since you already been there in the morning? You can step out of Formosa Hotel again, cross opposite (you can see Relax from Formosa and they are about 40 steps away) and head to Relax Massage for a non-special service massage at 70k/hr (if i dont remember wrong). If you want foot reflexology by MAN (good looking ones),Relax massage is the place too,hehehe...

6. Another choice of massage is behind Relax Massage ,once you locate Relax Massage, directly behind it (another about 30 steps away) is Indo Rasa Massage/Hotel/Food Court. You probably know the price to get a massage from there but you can also get them to your room for 120k/hr or 130k/1.5hr as room ambiance in Indo Rasa wont be good. Just give the receptionist your Hotel Name and room number. You will need a bath after oily massage,hehehe...

7. After massage, you can both gather again for some TCSS again before heading to Indo Rasa Food court for dinner, which by this time you should know where it is if you have tried Indo Rasa Massage. Or just eat in hotel restaurant. They serve quite fairly good food too (more than double street food price tho).

8. It would likely be around 7pm after your dinner. Time for Alishan KTV at Formosa Hotel 4th Floor. Its a weekday you are going to Batam,so no worries about having no room. In fact after 730pm to 8.30pm would be some of the perfect timing to reach Alishan KTV as all girls should have arrive by then. That i guess would be party/drinking all night.

9. Alternatively if you are looking for a quiet place to drink, out of Formosa Hotel front door, turn left about 25 steps, you should see Center point. Ground floor of outside Center Point is a open air bar with a giant screen TV,where not many will drink there during weekdays. There is a small live band playing there too. This place opens in the evening around 7.30pm.

10. All the above should burn most of your day.Next morning should be free breakfast from Formosa Hotel. If you want another massage,Kings open at 9am,the rest of the massage shop out of Formosa Hotel opens at around 10am. Thereafter would be pack up and go back to Harbour Bay to board your ferry or if you still have time to burn, take a taxi to Nagoya Hill Mall for some shopping, the coming back taxi gonna cost quite a bit tho. Its a weekday,do let the Hotel receptionist knows if you are gonna check out late.

11. Harbour Bay can also be a fairly good place for lunch before you board the ferry back to Sillypore too.

12. Home sweet home.

Side Note : Formosa Hotel building ground floor has a provision shop, almost everything you need are already there. Out from front door, turn left, walk straight but dont leave the hotel building. Turn left again when you reach the end of Formosa Hotel building and walk straight all the way,you should see provision shop. You may wish to locate this provision shop when you arrive at Formosa Hotel on the 1st day. It close around 1030pm at times (no fix closing time). If you need something after midnight, there is another 24 hour K-Mart across Center point building in between Dynasty 99 and Center Point building. When you 1st arrive at Harbour Bay ferry terminal, you also cannot miss Harbour Mart.

The whole itinerary was planned in a way to reduce the amount walking.

Re: Batam Info Thread

Update:

1) There's 1 new Japanese Sushi shop opening soon (15 June if i remembered correctly) at BCS level 3.

2) The route from Nagoya to BCS, near to hotel 89 there is a new MA LA Steamboat (麻辣火锅) Shop, it claim to be the first and only Ma La Steamboat in Batam.

3) Never take the ojek outside Nagoya Hill at JCO side (facing The Hill Hotel). Maybe due to the low human traffic there, i took twice ojek there with different driver with agreed 10k fare to nearby Goodway Hotel. Upon arriving, they asked for 25k !!! Negotiated with him and paid 15k in the end. 1 thing i hate the most is those that does not kept their promises, although i might had given him 15k instead of 10k if his attitude is good.

Heading to Batam today and hope the Crabs are still on promotion at the Red Crab Restaurant..
