I think the experience of Scum and Chelshit in past few seasons has shown the value of spending big on a few world class players. Their signings have all been overpriced but most have worked, except for the famous two duds at Stamford Bridge. I'm afraid we have to follow suit but only for truly world class players and not only the "good ones".

oh, now... dont be mean to shrek!!! shrek is more handsome lor!!!:D

fyi, i dont hate owen immensely. dont feel anything against him personally, but just dont want him to come back cos i dont want pool to play in a way to suit his style, ala houllier's time... cos i m convinced that he will demand for a first team whenever he is not in crutches...

i do agree that pool needs to spend to get 1 or 2 world class players, as i have been championing for all this time here. the posts in this thread is proof... but i just feel that bent is not worth that kind of price and not to mention defoe. i m convinced that bent will be a breath of fresh air for pool but not at that kind of price, too risky. too bad he didnt have a relegation release clause, else his salary will really jump!!! as for defoe, somehow i feel that he will get limited playing time and i get the feeling that he will complain strongly about it.

talking about english strikers... i have always been an admirer of dean ashton and recently, i liked what i saw in nugent as well. but then again, they r ones for the future. i would like to see pool sign someone with the immediate future in view, for a change.:D

tats the problem with english strikers, they cost the heaven but yet their performance in particular on the international level does not match the value..perhaps other then a certain mr. owen who till a few years back was worth his salt...that is until all his horrific injuries...but i cannot understand the mindset in particularly the national manager, who seems to pick players for past performances rather then current..i mean for a player like owen who has been out practically one whole season, can be chosen over players who had been playing week in week out..that really baffles me..

Dunno what's really in his mind ... 'coz he didn't jump like you predicted.
He declined to join West Ham, who actually met Charlton's asking price & offered personal terms of 75k pounds per week. Instead, he's eyeing a move to Spurs who's gonna offer him only a miserly 30k pounds per week.

Uncle ... you mean he gets enough playtime at Spurs meh?? Their first choice pairing is still very much Berbatov & Keane leh ... did the kid complain?? In fact, he's just declared he wants to stay on with Spurs.
Your feelings not very 准 leh.

Let's put it this way ... which job would you be eyeing after you've become the national manager?? especially after you've become the national manager of a Top 10 team in the world??
In other words, the man has already reached the pinnacle of his trade ... so what should be his next objectives?? I guess it's only fair to say he should do his best to extend his tenure as national manager for the longest time possible, so he can make the most money from there to secure a stable future for himself & his family ... agree??
To do that ... would you choose to do so with a bunch of international stars (who have more or less proven themselves before you even got the job) or with a bunch of upstarts (who are potentially SYTs waiting to be raped in international football)??
What the fans think or say won't really matter ... 'coz whatever you choose to do, there will always be one half of the fans saying "I told you so". Other than that, if you play to the gallery, you'd be known as a national manager without your own mind ... so that's not gonna help you stay in your job either.
Hope you can understand the mindset better now.

PS: England is a Top 10 team on FIFA's rankings based on the fact that not many teams can beat them (let's just ignore the fact that they have difficulties beating most teams too). This status is really attained becoz the England team has good goalkeepers & great defenders ... it also shows that the main dearth is in their pool of strikers (let's just ignore the fact that the international game is just about tactical discipline beyond boredom). Choosing a half-fit Owen over match-fit upstarts probably manifested the true dearth ... & the deep deep valley in between. ;)

The conservative thinking is true of national managers in general. But if you look at McClaren (who has just been nicely implicated in the FA probe), he has also brought back Becks like he is a promising youngster. That shows a manager in deep crisis, lacking confidence and praying that his big name stars are going to play him out of trouble. England's back to where they started.

Hahaha King this line really cracked me up...yeah every one seems to hold them in high esteem mainly becos of the fact that they really don't lose much but then again most of their games against top teams are normally drawn out...

At the international arena, there isn't a league competition ... the bi-annual regional qualifiers dun really count becoz the seeded team usually only have 1 other competitor of any significance.
Once they reach the final 16 & standards are much closer, drawing a game is good enough ... becoz you then move on to extra-time & penalties, where any defeat at that stage will draw greater sympathy & emphaty than if the game was concluded within the first 90 minutes.
This is again the efficiency of the human race ... you always study what needs to be done before you actually go about executing the deed.

hey, i predicted that he will join pool actually.:D actually, if the price is about right, i really dont mind seeing him join pool instead. he has speed and tenacity as well. he would be able to benefit from the knockdowns from kuyt and crouchie...

as for why he didnt join west ham... beats me too. the hammers, in my opinion, will not make the same mistake as last season. they should do well next season and bent would raise his own profile even more, if he wants a place in the euro championships...

Uncle ... you mean he gets enough playtime at Spurs meh?? Their first choice pairing is still very much Berbatov & Keane leh ... did the kid complain?? In fact, he's just declared he wants to stay on with Spurs.

if my feelings r 准 all the time, do u think i still need to work, eh??? just a feeling lah, uncle... that he would not be able to fit in. maybe it is his vocal nature... or the feeling that he gives me that he is vocal. and the fact that when he is good, he is very good. but when he is bad, it pains to watch him in action... kekeke...

cheers.

Transfer Gossip

"Liverpool have made a move for Zaragoza striker Diego Milito according to reports over the weekend.

The News of the World claims that Liverpool have launched a £13 million bid for the Argentinean striker after accepting they are set to lose out to Tottenham in the race to sign Charlton's Darren Bent.

28 year old Milito scored 22 goals for Zaragoza last season and the paper quotes him as saying:

"Liverpool are a club any player would like to move to. I believe I could adjust without any problems."

Felt D. Bent is good striker, but not worth that much, as mentioned, he is not proven in international games yet and charlton is asking for crazy $$....wat west ham is doing, is like wat leeds did, pay and hope for the best and if cannot achieve the goal, then free fall will be coming.

They were extremely lucky to get away with it last season (and might not still yet, with Sheff U trying to get a points deduction - kudos for us supporting the inquiry). Bunch of overpaid, self-interested Chelsea wannabes if you ask me.

i don't think they're gonna get relegated lah...but being a closet hammer myself, i don't think they're as bad as you say they are :D

nigel-reo cockanaden aside, i like the team's work rate and team work, esp in their first season back under alan pardew. last year went to the dogs cos of all their internal issues.

if pool get benayoun for one million, i'd be happy. don't think think he'd be worth much more than that though. he'd then need to beef himself up at anfield before being a much more effective player.

so in fact itz not really a big gamble.

but for voronin? hmm...such eg like rebrov and sheva has not establish themselves in EPL, dunno another compatriot can make it or not.

my 0.02.

actually I think what you're saying is only half true bro, just like how rebrov and sheva were doing extremely well where they were before, berbatov could've easily gone to the EPL and made a fool outta himself. but he didn't, maybe he still will...

its always a gamble bringing people in. i just think that a gamble that doesn't bust the bank yet could bring in lotsa returns is smarter.

of course like all fans i wanna see the big names come in and add to the flavour. but if not then we roll the dice and hope for "Snake Eyes!"

wah kao, i really sound like a cheapskate bastard with all my previous posts on cheap transfers :D
