nigel-reo cockanaden aside, i like the team's work rate and team work, esp in their first season back under alan pardew. last year went to the dogs cos of all their internal issues.

if pool get benayoun for one million, i'd be happy. don't think think he'd be worth much more than that though. he'd then need to beef himself up at anfield before being a much more effective player.

It's not just a problem of nigel-reo cocker. For a team that did well in the previous season and got to the FA Cup final, with all the financial resources they have, to end up scraping past the relegation line on the final day of the season, and owing their escape to one player basically (and a bunch of grey suited bureaucrats who are too afraid to penalise the club where it counts), is just basically bollocks.

You got to admit it and say, aside from a few players, the unlucky injuries, the team has been shite overall. And due to what you called "internal problems" so most of those players deserve to go down.

PS. I think Benayoun is fine as he is. You don't need Mr Universes all over the pitch. If you look at the smaller players who succeed in the premiership - look at mascherano in the middle of the park - it's the attitude that's more important than the muscle. ;)

I agree, it is the attitude that matters.. :D
Hope we can get some good players in.

yea you're right quite a few of the players were playing well below what they are capable of...but what the heck, am still a closet fan anyway. i was hoping that other teams went down instead of them bwahahahahaha

and no lah, i'm not saying that he should be buffed up to "Arnod" levels, but just more meaty you know. he's a hard working and very intelligent player but he's seriously too skinny to be effective at this moment.

the positions that he plays in will require him to often try outmuscling brutes out of the way to get the ball. the way he's built now, he's a pushover...

btw, did you watch an episode of mtv cribs that featured his house? it looks like the cinderalla's poor version of a luxury house compared to the other footballers. although its something that i'd never be able to afford in this lifetime still...heee

Ya, I understand you're becoming increasingly frustrated by the lack of transfer activity in and out of our great club. Our American owners seem to change their transfer ideas every time, every day.

Be patient, I'd expect something to happen within the next week, if not I'll start getting worried.

As we all know,Liverpool Echo is not Tribalfootball .....

Torres is Reds' number one targetJun 20 2007

EXCLUSIVE by David Prentice, Liverpool Echo

ATLETICO MADRID skipper Fernando Torres has become Liverpool’s top target.

Reds boss Rafa Benitez has made the 23-year-old striker his number one priority after learning that the Madrid club have finally agreed to part with their prize asset.
But with Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal all having been linked with the international striker in the past, the Reds are keen to tie up a deal quickly.
Capturing a player of Torres’ stature would appease both Benitez and Reds’ fans who are becoming impatient at the lack of activity in the transfer market since Benitez’s bleak Athens post-mortem.
Torres could cost between £24m and £27m, the release figure believed to be in the player’s contract.Atletico Madrid have steadfastly refused to sell Torres since he burst onto the scene as one of the most exciting 17-year-old’s in European football.
But a failure to qualify for next season’s UEFA Cup appears to have forced their hand.
Torres has scored 82 goals in 212 league appearances for Atletico, with 14 goals in 42 international appearances.
The Spanish striker was pictured in May, bizarrely appearing to show he already wears Liverpool’s heart on his sleeve.
During an Atletico match against Real Sociedad, Torres’ skipper’s armband came loose, revealing the Kop’s famous ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’ slogan on the reverse.

Look at this piece of gossip. Possible reason why the funds promised to Rafa hasn't materialised.

Hicks adds new exec to look after his sports interests
Written by Jim Boardman
Tuesday, 19 June 2007
Liverpool co-owner Tom Hicks has promoted a member of his Hicks Sports Group into a newly created role, which will include some involvement with the running of the Reds. Hicks Sports Group is owned by Hicks Holdings.

Casey Shilts, 39, is to become chief operating office of the group, which is the holding company that owns Texas Rangers, the Dallas Stars and Hicks' half of Liverpool FC (through another holding company).

According to reports from the States, Shilts (no relation to the oft-sung about Peter Shilton), will be overseeing operations of the three sports sides (or franchises) on a day-to-day basis - including Liverpool FC. As part of the web of companies owned by Hicks, she'll also be sitting on the board of Center Operation Co which runs the American Airlines Center (used by the Dallas Stars). She'll also be taking charge of running Hick's golf course and hotel development in a place called Bariloche in Argentina.

Speaking about her new job, Shilts said: "The biggest challenge will be the global breadth of all of Hicks Holdings and being able to manage between what Tom has in Liverpool to what we're doing in Argentina as well as the important teams we have here." As for working with the executives of each team, including Rick Parry of course, she said her intention is to "cross-fertilize those businesses so we can learn from each other."

In the background to this appointment is a rumour that Hicks has fallen out with Gillett, his co-owner of Liverpool. Some rumours claim the fall-out is over money, others say it is over Hicks' perception that his half of the partnership is being pushed to one side, because Foster Gillett, and not one of Hicks' sons, will be getting the dominant role in the Anfield boardroom this autumn. It's this alleged row that is said to be holding back funds for Rafa Benitez. Perhaps this new appointment will help smooth things over, although of course the opposite could yet happen.

Hicks says that Shilts was an obvious choice for the role of coordinating both the Hicks' sports interests and various building projects (including of course the new Anfield stadium), thanks to her experience on the £300m Glorypark development, adjacent to the Texas Rangers' stadium in Arlington. Hicks said: "She brought it all together. We made tremendous progress with the city and in the project, and she led all of our efforts doing that." The Glorypark building work is set to begin this year and will open in two years, with retail, office and entertainment properties.

A similar project is coming soon for Shilts. Planned to be next to the Dallas Stars' home is an office, residential and hotel project to be called Champions Park. This is still at the design stage and it seems Shilts is tasked with getting city leaders on side.

Is Hicks getting bored with his sports teams? Hicks is reported to have said Shilts' appointment allows him to focus more of his time on his private-equity dealings. He has just bought 40% of SafeMed, a healthcare software company and he also announced plans to try and raise £200m dollars to buy more companies.

Shilts herself has been a Hicks employee since 2000 after being poached from the Coca-Cola Company.

According to the US newspaper the Star-Telegram, she's also a member of the board of directors of Big Brothers Big Sisters of North Texas. This volunteer organisation describes itself as one "that provides children support, guidance, friendship and fun by matching them to adult role models".

read in soccernet this morning Charlton is refusing to lower the fee for D Bent, Bent at 17m is simply too expensive, as compare to Torres, and if Torres is the top target for Rafa, then why pay 17m for a player trying to get into the national team, whereas Torres is established in Spanish team right?

Also is Bent better then Crouch? or Kuyt? Remembering Crouch actually score more goals then Bent in the national team. and we only pay less then half of 17m to get him from saints, its just crazy for Charlton to ask for tat amount.

well certainly hope we can hear some good news this weekend.
