Pool make offer 6.5m for Ryan Babel but Ajax reject as too low. Pool up offer to 10m for the Ajax winger. Hope deal can go through.

Disappointed they didn't try harder to get Flo Malouda. Now he's going to Chelski. Damn good player who can change & win games......sigh:(

Carragher set to quit international football

England and Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher believes the time is right for him to quit international football.

The 29-year-old's move was prompted by him being omitted in favour of Ledley King in the Euro 2008 qualifier against Estonia.

'I'm 29 now, and I have to accept if I'm not a regular starer now, I don't think I ever will be,' Carragher told the Liverpool Echo.

Carragher admits he is no longer willing to be a squad player.

He said: 'Playing the odd game here and there is not enough. Four or five years ago I was happy to have that role but not now.

'Some of the younger defenders deserve their chance, like Joleon Lescott at Everton, or Stephen Taylor from Newcastle.'

Carragher added: 'I want to stress this has nothing to do with Steve McClaren.

'It wouldn't have mattered who was the England manager, I've been thinking about this for a while.'

Carragher has left the door slightly ajar as well. 'If it is an absolute emergency, I probably won't say no if I'm asked,' he said.

Carragher won the first of his 34 caps in 1999 when he came on as a substitute in the 1-1 draw against Hungary.

He was previously captain of the Under-21 side after signing pro forms at Anfield in 1996.

Carragher helped Liverpool win the 2005 Champions League and was part of the team that went down to AC Milan in Europe's premier club competition last season.

However he has never enjoyed the acclaim for his country that he has had at club level.

Actually I'm glad he made this decision...

He is good enough to walk into almost any squad or country but have to be used as spare in England which is a shame cos I dont see how Ferdinad or King are any better than him..

agreed with you totally, was very happy to see him quit england and very true abt Ferdinard and King, they are over-rated and our Carragher is probably the most under-rated player. With him now quitting england, Liverpool will see the very best of him and without the worry of him getting injuried during those international games.

Yeah, it is sad to see him retiring from the England squad.:( He is one of the best defenders in EPL and perhaps Europe. I admire his skills very much.

Most typical of the England set-up for ages ... the nice guys will continue to get ignored while those yaya papayas will be worshipped readily as prima donnas.

I am quite happy JC is quitting England. No point playing for a team where the coach does not appreciate you. Of late, England has always lacked talented managers to do the country justice at the national level. Its quite evident when the top 4 clubs all employ foreign managers.

Yeah... Its kinda sick when truly good players dont get the credits they deserved...

Think only Liverpool fans realised how good and important JC is to us... Great role model as well!

Does any fellow Reds know where is the best place, besides Queensway to buy our new 07-08 away jersey and printing (no.9 Torres :D)?

Thanks in advance..
