This I have to agree with you. I took Pacific airline way before Jetstar Pacific many times for domestic... Planes are old but still took off and landed safety...

LOL - he'd have a hard time explaining that he himself "use" the ladies handbag! Why not just take advantage of the allowable limits to bring items into Vietnam?

Googled a bit and this is what I found:

".......The given information is from the Official Vietnam Government Customs Website; make sure to visit this website before flying to Vietnam to keep updated.
- Cigarettes: 400; Cigars: 100; Tobacco: 100 gr; Liquor: 1.5 liters.
- Perfume and jewelry for personal use only.
- Passengers can bring small gift items valued at not more than US$ 300.
..........."

if for me...I will not want to buy the handbag as gift...you can say I am miser or anything...:)

My reasoning is simple...when give VB gifts the VB dun take it as cash or money simply is a gift...so whatever money you promised to give remains the same...VB will not ask you to deduct from the cash money you promised her or she will pay you back the money used to purchase...:)

the other thing is you feel heart pain when she used once or twice and she gives away to her sister or friends to use...you may not even know she sold the hangbag away...:)

another reason is the handbag sold in HCM is quite cheap...so why not buy there...some may say that those sold in Vietnam is not real thing...but so long you buy and give her she cannot refused...since cheaper and you know ladies like to have many and not one bag...^^

100% agree!

WG's IMHO always prefer cold hard cash - as then they can buy whatever they want for themselves and for all the reasons you outline.

Yeah, small trinkets from overseas or when out walking around is fine, but to take the trouble to actually buy a particular item, bring it over and worry about customs etc - nahhh!

China girls are particularly fond of asking "let's go shopping" and expecting you to go with them and pay for anything and everything she desires; I've learned years ago to either say no or tell her "no, you go yourself, here's some money..." thus putting a limit to the cash outlay as well as re-establishing the fact that yours is a cash based relationship.

SEAJ

Ps - Another thing - Food and restaurants; these girls just do NOT share our tastes and/or sentiments when it comes to eating. I used to think - "hey, let's treat her and go to a nice restaurant..." Well... for sure not Western or other foreign food places - things I had thought more "Romantic" than the usual local places. WRONG!! Not only do they struggle with the cutlery, they also just cannot appreciate any other things than what they are used to daily! And Romantic? What's that? What a waste of time! And so quiet and dead! Yes, we all forget the socio-economic divide when with a nice SYT!

VB may mean many things but she is at least a friend to me :)
She still kept the one I gave to her 2 years back so I don't mind to give her an upgrade :D
for the same "brand", so far hcm price may be higher though not sure about this.

not exactly cash base relationship.
Is like getting a gift for a lady friend. I hope you have friends :D
throwing $$ to her and ask her to get herself has no respect for one another.

Actually what I meant was... some greetings pertaining to Year of the Goat... for eg in Chinese we can say:
shēngyì yáng yáng déyì - 生意羊羊得意
(Wish u get what u want in business... playing with the word "yang"...)

Thanks for digging out the old posts though. They are also useful for me to learn. :)

That's true, actually. VB don't care if the brand is original or copy. They just carry it for the big Gucci or Chanel logo. So cash is still best. Don't waste time buying branded this or that... they couldn't care less. The only exception is iPhone & iPad.... that one must be original. :p

Corruption is very high in VN, maybe more than China.
I used to send some gifts to my ex (Armani & Gucci stuff) and most of time have to pay a big amount of money to the viet customs if they open and check the parcel (and sometimes if really unlucky, parcel is lost).

U are lucky, u can pay money to custom to get the stuff out. Luxury goods are heavily tax in Vietnam, if I am not wrong up to 75% of value of goods. If there is no receipt, invoice, they will determine your goods value n tax u, unless the receiver can proof the value of the goods.

Since it is expensive stuff then u should use DHL, Fedex or others... if u want to save then normal parcel mail is like playing roulette in casino.

Bro

If I don't remember wrongly, there isn't any Luxury tax imposed for handbags in Vietnam. Presently, they Duties for branded handbags is 25% unless the bags are made from China, Japan, South Korea and ASEAN, the duties might be 0%. Vietnam imposed luxury tax like liqor, tobacco and cars only. Presently, Im working in an apparel environment and I'm in charge of the ASIA Duties and Taxes thus I didn't heard about such tax imposed.

Apart from girl friendly hotel, how about apartment from Airbnb?
There should not be a problem for gal to stay overnight right?

if you are renting the entire place like a 1 bedroom apartment, then there shouldn't be any problems. One thing to note, there are security in most apartments so be aware of lockout times or else, you might be locked out if out too late. Be sure to get security's phone number to wake them up if they fall asleep.

Yes I'm very budget on accommodation and transport when I travel. :)

I don't give working ladies money for shopping because I don't practice RTF.
Does that constitute as a super cheapskate? :D

Interesting comment (But….errrr. rather provocative no? Never mind!)

Please do remember that we are on a “cheonging” site and as such my assumption. And yes, of course we all have just regular female friends even at mongering destinations – and I don’t know about you, but my civvie friends, if they ever ask me to bring them something from overseas, they would for sure insist on paying me back for the item(s). On top of that, I would never even dream of gifting to my friends such cheap trinkets as handbags worth so little. I’d prefer to gift them other smaller but quality items even if priced reasonably.

And presuming that we ARE talking about gifts to working girls (you did also mention – “…if bring a brand new "branded" bag over as gift for VB ... few hundred that type..”), I still suggest that cash would be a better alternative. And yeah, definitely only IMHO, but to me it’s never a good idea to mix up definitions of WG’s and Friends…. Because you’ll only end up fooling yourself, and worse, her!

And do remember that it’s not a matter of “respect” but to set your own boundaries when giving cash! WG’s are used to receiving cash even when they sell their bodies – so….! On top of that, again IMHO, by giving gifts instead of cash, you are only setting up her expectations about your relationship way too high. Too easy for her to then presume that you want more than just a Client/hooker relationship when receiving gifts instead of cash – and you gotta question your own motives when only gifting such cheap trinkets. So, if you do think of her more as a friend, then isn’t it incumbent upon you to NOT give her any wrong impressions and worse, futile hope?

SEAJ

PS - Please note that SEAJ88 has absolutely nothing to do with me.
As far as I am concerned, he is a clone intent either on just wreaking havoc on SBF or worse, trying to somehow attach himself to me in order to pull off scams.
Please also note my signature line pointing out who I know are clones.
Thank you
