Old passport only valid for 10yrs. It need to have bar code on your passport before you could use the EIACS (Enhance Immigration Automated Clearance System) to scan the passport yourself. Failing which you may have to join the normal immigration clearance counter. Hope that helps.

BTW, there are some hotel with free wireless internet services, i only know afew.
Hotel 89, free surf at the lobby.
Planet, If i am not wrong, u can surf at your room free too.
The Hotel at the hill top (Wat is the name of the hotel har? boi kee liao, hehe), also have free internet at the lobby.
