Bad news, just when we thought we can gloat at Chelsea. Agger and Alonso out for 4-6 weeks with broken foot. Worrying at the rate we are conceding penalties, although to be fair our defence has been quite solid overall.

Alonso out for weeks shouldn't be a problem as we have a good cover in midfield. Javier Mascherano and Momo should be up to the task. But Agger? I know Hyypia is good but his lack of pace was highlighted against Porto.

This could seriously damage our title ambitions.

BTW, where is Harry Kewell?

Boss Rafael Benitez has cover for Alonso with Javier Mascherano and Mohamed Sissoko able to partner Steven Gerrard in midfield, but the loss of Agger puts pressure on veteran defender Sami Hyypia, who deputised against Porto and was partly to blame for the early penalty conceded in the 1-1 draw.
Alvaro Arbeloa can deputise in central defence, where Jamie Carragher has only just recovered from a cracked rib, while the only other alternative is young reserve Jack Hobbs, who has no senior experience.

Worrying signs....... :(

I agreed with bros here, with Aggar out injury, Hyppia will be tested more, he is a good player no doubt, but he has lost his pace.....at the same time, its good chance for those young players to step up, to prove they can make it to the team......

I think you guys are jumping on Big Sam a bit too much. He is slower of cos but he never had pace anyway. He never let us down last season when he had a game. No doubt he gave away the penalty against Porto but the whole team was poor then in that early period, so why put all the blame on him? I don't see anyway slagging off Arbeloa for his tug on Kanu? I'm sure Sami will bounce back for us in the next game.

Do we need another backup CB? Of cos, but that's a separate question.

;)

I have never doubt Sami's play, just tat he appears to be very slow covering back in the penalty incident, but of course, his positional play is excellent all the time, and not to forget he scores quite afew goals for us over the seasons. He is truely a great signing for us.

Anyway hopefully the porto game is just a one-off incident, dun remember Liverpool having played so badly in the past few season, especially with the players on the field.....seems to be lacking of spirit, I am referring to the team as a whole.....

Don't worry, he will make his appearance if we make it to CL final.

Tomorrow Birmingham. Liverpool's bogey team. Feeling a little apprehensive, even though it's at Anfield. scared...

Owen's great when he's fit. But that's usually only 2 months in any season, even when he was wearing red. Magpies can keep him, thanks.
