hi, i dont agreed with etherC. Althought ia m not muslim but i disagree with a comment about muslim can married 4. Everyone thinking that its advantages for them to marry 4 but if you looks into the history, you must know why prophet muhammad marry 4 wife. There's a reason in it. What are you disagreeing about?

b) Muslim law allows marriage of up to 4 wives

I never said that it is advantageous to have 4 wives. In fact the Quran advises Muslims to marry only the number they can justly treat with a maximum cap of 4, which I feel is a very enlightened form of thought that acknowledges the weakness that men have for women and a good sociological application to the tumultuous times in which Islam was founded. The prophet himself had 12 wives(some are for political reasons naturally). No problem either as he could afford it and he wasn't a monk!

It is the civil laws & modern Christianity(influenced by greek culture) that bind us to monogamy. It is not that bad a move considering that Man is over utilizing Earth's natural resources. Allowing too much of our progeny only accelerates resource depletion. Perhaps in the future after horrible world wars when the population of males drop drastically we will start taking multiple wives again.
