John Carew has told his Norway team-mate John Arne Riise to get away from Liverpool's persistent squad rotation and join him at Aston Villa.Riise has been in and out of Rafael Benitez' side recently, falling behind Alvaro Arbeloa in the pecking order at left-back and failing to secure a regular starting role on the wing.

We should cash in on Riise. As a left back, he keeps getting turned and beaten for pace by right-wingers. As a left winger, he can't dribble past defenders and provide good crosses. His shooting is very deadly and accurate from range, that's all.

Rafa can find better left back or left winger, I'm sure.

actually, hor ... ze real reason is dis 1 la ...

rafa hd been studying ze latest match stats ...

in ze sunderland, toulouse n derby matches, gerrard din play ... liverpool scored 12 gols in 270 min ... ie. avg 1 gol in 22.5 min ...

after dat, in ze porto, birmingham, wigan, marseille, spurs matches, gerrard played ... liverpool scored 5 gols in 450 min ... ie. avg 1 gol in 90 min ... (hv left out vs pompey (gerrard came on as subs) n carling cup match dun count)

when going 2 70 min yesterday, liverpool has oredi scored 1 gol .. so he tot ... if gerrard continue playing, den according 2 stats, liverpool cannot score any more ... since avg is 1 gol in 90 min ...

dat time still hv 20 min more 2 go ... so, if take gerrard out, according 2 stats, still can score 1 more gol ... since wifout gerrard, avg is 1 gol in 22.5 min ...

so dat's y gerrard was subs @ 70 min ... @ dat time, still hv 20 min of normal time left ... ze gol was scored in +ed on time ... +ed on time was 3 min ... juz nice 4 1 gol according 2 ze stats ... so, rafa was happy dat he followed ze stats ...

:D

seriously, any1 noticed ze main diff in ze way liverpool play wif n wifout gerrard?

i don t agree with on that,if u look at it he has been quite consistent thru out the time he has been at anfield i don t think rafa will let him go.he s quite versatile left mid n left back, always breaking forward to get his thuderbolts at goal.

n where is that. guess he is planning his summer holiday but i was glad to see in somewhere near his best.i think the guy in the newpaper got it spot on even though i think they r crap.that stevie g is better playing in the hole than in central midfield or on the right.rememeber he started as a right back for pool under gh.he s not world class but he s a special player for us.

very good theory but u don t take someone who can win u the game off cos at that point we were all over them but lucas did well pity he did not get the goal then rafa wld have hail as the genius but in my book he is the man to win us the tittle.

Own up Rafa, you gambled :)

Poor Neville, would be a hero if Howard managed to save the spot kick.
Glad that the bragging rights are now back to the Red Merseyside.

ya man that was a big gamble cos he had me baffled.

Credit to Rafa for having the courage to do what he felt is right and necessary. Credit also to Gerrard for respecting his boss's decision. Some big ego players would have made a big scene esp since it is a derby game. Rafa must have done his sums and felt that we can win without Gerrard (since Blues got 10 men left) and we need Gerrard for Tue match. He must also have felt the same with Benayoun who did an excellent job as well. Good thing the gamble paid off. :)

Bro, you mean "with his eyes opened wide-wide" lah. I think even if the ball is equiped with GPS, he will still not be able to make a 10 m pass accurately. :D Everytime he gets the ball I get heart attack !!!

Yah, saw this in Straits Times too. If Rafa did said it, I think he meant it to say that becos it is a derby game, it is very emotional (which is very evident -- the way the more senior Pool players celebrate after the match appeared like we won a cup final !!). And Stevie G might get too caught up in the emotions -- ie, play too much with his heart. Don't think he was insulting Stevie G.

Cheers

Yes ... the 3 subs used were Babel, Lucas & Pennant ... while the only one unused is Crouch.
Did it mean Rafa was prepared to go 3-5-2 ... had any of the defenders been injured?? Another brave move on his part which deserved our applause??

Rafa can find better left back or left winger, I'm sure.

Really dunno where you coming from ...
But, putting that aside, can you share with us your wise views ... on which other better left-back or left-wingers are available ... whether in Jan or in the summer??

How convenient to always say "Rafa can ... I'm sure".

Haha. I think we cannot even begin to think how Rafa mind work. But a win is a win. Now we need to qualify for the next stage of CL.

I agree with all we need to BUY defenders. But maybe we should not sell anyone yet.

Up to today, i still don't know why Sissoko is not improving...
The game against Everton was very poor.
Losing ball possesion and erratic passing...
