was in Chau Doc and Can Tho in May 2014...the food there is cheap at 20k per meal...and if can rent a room at 1mil per month or entire local place for 2-3mil then monthly expenditure will be cheap overall....ate com suon or bun ca (gave me whole fish head) only 20k in chau doc...drink ca phe at air con cafe only 15k per cup...ate bun mam, bun rieu, com suon in Ben Ninh Kieu Can Tho at 20k per meal...:)

milfmilf - hope that answers your question...:)

often our living expenses will go up only when you have VB...VB problem means family becomes your problem...:)

Thanks H88 !
not sure what are those food you have mentioned but may visit can tho one day to check it out ...
so far quite ok with viet food, like their bittergourd soup with minced meat and fried rice with 腊味, dim sum also very authentic... especially those prawns
coffee is nice but have to control their sugar or sweet milk

Since many have the intention of settle down in vietnam, as a Super Senior who have been in vietnam for many years, visit many places and encounter almost everything in VN, have guide so many newbies there, with your accumulated years of priceless experience, could you kindly advise as in roughly how much to retire in VN though i understand it could be a difficult question as different people require different level of living:)

Re: Vietnam - HCM (Thread 3)

To retire. we need to consider few factor.

1) House, i will use a vn people name who i trust. use his name because house will be freehold. vn wife cannot be trusted. will transfer to her name when OLD.

2) Income, we need a income, how to get income? use your brain, brainstorm.

3) HDB, buy a min 3 4 5 room flat and get rental money as additional sources of income.

Retire comfortably in vietnam.
Dont need to worry pay and pay as vn is afforable.
a normal vn salary is between $100-$500 sgd

Having a $2000 income per month, confirm can retired without worry ^_^
