Passport kept by hotels the moment you check in...money just bring along...the most you bring is several thousand SGD...if 1k notes then only a few pcs...:) laptop or ipad usually just leave in hotel...for so many years I had not lost anything...even when I travel to Mien Tay and Hanoi recently...checking to new hotels every few days and have not lost anything...in fact in the province more peaceful and seldom any snatch theft...:) |
Re: Vietnam - HCM (Thread 3)
oh sorry, my meaning is actually some of the things i do not want to bring back to Singapore eg. fishing gear, outdoor foldable chair, if there is a rented locker to keep these item, then save the hassle to bring back to Singapore and back to Vietnam every month. If i can keep some clothes in HCM, i can even travel very light.

Re: Vietnam - HCM (Thread 3)
It all depends on luck. My last time in Can Tho, at the pasar malam at Ninh Kieu, a snatch theft occurred right in front of me. Poor victim was a VN lady. Just be alert where ever u go.

But all these things..don't really need to keep. When u go places to fish..will have people renting out stuff. It might be more worth it ...effort and stuff |

Re: Vietnam - HCM (Thread 3)
This is just an eg of a "clash of cultures."
Vietnamese sometimes do not understand why foreigners kick up a fuss about their passports. It's just a govt requirement that the hotel keeps a record of their foreign guests in case the "cong an" comes to check. For me personally, I don't bother whether they wanna keep my passports or not. In fact, I would rather they keep it and safeguard for me. :) |

I agreed with you that better to let Hotels keep the passport then us carry around..upon check out we collect our passport from hotel and that is when we need to use the passport to travel....for so many years nothing had happened to me...the hotel can refused any guest check in without original passport..:) Once a friend from Aussie withdrew passport from the hotel to get into casino...but was made to sign a letter saying that guest took the passport and need to re-deposit passport at reception before he retires for the day...:) |
Re: Vietnam - HCM (Thread 3)
dude, sharing information only, no need for personal attack and name calling.
readers can read and choose what to believe. few years in balai i always let hotel keep my passport...for safe keeping and to book return ferry....even if hotel don't keep the pp, i also keep it in room safe and take a copy out. its up to each hotel's policy to keep your pp or not, not happy, change hotel. |
Re: Vietnam - HCM (Thread 3)
Went hanoi in late april for the first time and was surprise the hotel did not keep my passport :D

Re: Vietnam - HCM (Thread 3)
If u scroll a few pgs back, I mentioned meeting 2 great looking ladies while having a food & drink at Circle K (similar to 7-11) and we exchanged Wechat contacts etc.
One of the ladies now asking me if I have friends to recommend to her. This gal looks like innocent student and has super soft & fair skin and since I have already met her, I can validate that her photos are really her and not fake. I did not up any of them as I had company already that night. If any of u guys interested pls PM me. U won't be disappointed. So as not to waste my time and to avoid ppl asking for fun, I will only reply bros with a history or has been around the forum for sometime. You must also be on your way to HCMC or in town already. Otherwise no point asking. PS: I am not pimp. Just doing this gal a favour. After I pass u her contact, the dealing is just between u and her. Nothing to do with me already. PSS Hurricane: Am I allowed to share contact like this on PM? If not do kindly let me know and I remove this msg. Cheers! |

I prefer to keep because there was a time in chau doc. My ex's sister's Id was kept and they made big screw up. In the end had to meet at the halfway stop house to get it back as the lady mistakenly took it and boarded the phuong trang bus. Hotels seldom cock up on it..but I rather it be me. And this is only if the hotel room doesn't have a safe. Otherwise I will lock it |

But in reality..it is relatively safer for the hotel to hold if you are the careless person or don't have proper bags to carry it. Can we leave it as different opinions..and not whether it's lawful or not. Hotel has to check the passport, that's a fact.:D |
Re: Vietnam - HCM (Thread 3)
Bro can u quote some official sources eg from some Ministry web sites? Otherwise your guess is just as good as mine.
I have been visiting VN for more than a decade and I know for a fact that the law is even more serious in the rural areas. Once I stayed in a gal's hometown house and the cong an did in fact come to pay a visit. Luckily my gal know the policemen quite well and it turned out to just a formality, no money needed to be paid. :p Quote:

I guess u also know the rural culture..having outsider to be in town and sleeping same house and room..usually is serious stuff... Hope u were well received!! |
Re: Vietnam - HCM (Thread 3)
Aiiyo why bother with people which cannot appear on the surface and need to hide and die a dogs death. Haha wanna drag others end up cannot aiyooo poor dog no more money to sustain his sponsor status, how sad need to use his other account to troll.
Some people think as long as I am not with them I am a clone, maybe they themselves are using one and accusing others of it. Wonder why and how am I a clone when so many seen me before? While the pussy 88088 gets ban from Thai post while i dont? Haha aiyo no more place to stand need to hide here. That said, life of a typical loser/leech which feeds on newbies' "hard earned" money. By the way only dogs run in cycles chasing his own tail like what you are doing. No wonder they say you cannot teach an old dog new tricks. Come come I don't bully sissies, here is a bone and run along. |
