We could have so easily conceded 3 goals in the first half, if not for Reina. This match kinda exposes our weaknesses, which i hope will not come back to haunt us, in the later stages.

Lucas's defending and positioning is really .... I lost count of how many times Zanetti dribble past Lucas just by using a few body feints. I hope he improves over time. Torres doesn't seem like he can dribble well ouside the box. Seems like he can't dribble past the Inter defenders last night. I think defenders shy away from him in the penalty box cos he's so quick and defenders fear giving penalties. Outside the penalty box, the Inter defenders really dun give him many chances to dribble past them. Kuyt's crossing is inconsistent to say, at best.

Cool finish from Torres indeed. I think Gerrard and Torres is forming a partnership that is as good as Gerrard and Owen in the past. Why will Gerrard leave when he's having so much fun playing along side Torres? Did you guys see Gerrard's smiles these days? I think Skrtel is settling down well too. Mascherano was massive once again.

Gillett finally breaks silence over co-owner Hicks

Liverpool co-owner George Gillett has finally broken his silence on his strained relationship with Tom Hicks.

Gillett has not made a public statement on the current takeover turmoil at the club since the controversial financial repackaging of the loans Hicks and Gillett took out to buy the club last year.

Gillett's son Foster - a board member - was withdrawn from the day-to-day operations at Anfield as Gillett prepared to sell his 50% stake to Dubai International Capital.

Gillett, who also owns the Montreal Canadiens ice hockey club, was speaking at a sports conference in California when - answering a question on whether he would remain a co-owner of Liverpool - he said: 'I would say, choose your partners wisely.'

That remark, in answer to a question from Abraham Madkour, editor of a sports business journal in the US, explained much about the differences between Hicks and Gillett.

Gillett was appearing at the IMG world sports conference in California.

He also said: 'He (Tom Hicks) is a great guy - but he has just got a different perspective on the media.'

Hicks has this week been critical of DIC's use of the media to support their plans to buy out Gillett.

Dallas-based Hicks has criticised DIC's tactics and terminated talks with the Dubai-based sports empire on Monday.

This followed his complaints about leaked documents and comments from DIC that implied they would want management control despite only buying a 49% stake.

He was also upset with what was considered triumphant comments that suggested DIC would soon buy his stake.

For Gillett to suggest he did not choose his partner wisely when he bought the club from former chairman David Moores says much about the current situation.

Gillett initially wanted to buy the club on his own, but brought in Hicks' financial muscle when he could not do the deal himself.

New twist in the never ending saga...:(

David Moore should be so ashamed of himself. Despite talk of finding the right owner and spending so much time dilly dallying, he sold his shares to a pair of assholes. I think some reporters should interview him to get his priceless views. Even Thaksin will be a better owner than the americans.

I think I know why Hicks dun want to sell already! :D DIC earns US$ when they sell oil to the world. So DIC wants to pay Hicks in US$. This american of course dun want to be paid in US$ lar, given how the US$ is dropping.

So imagine u enter discussion to sell Liverpool, by the time the deal is concluded, the US$ already drop another 5%. Makes a lot of difference at US$ 400 million right?

Rafa Benitez has to be the only manager in England who can dump the Italian champions out of the Champions League - on their own turf - and get criticised for doing so.

Liverpool moved ominously into the last eight of the Champions League for the third time in four years on Tuesday, yet despite a European record that Sir Alex Ferguson and Arsene Wenger dream about, Benitez instantly faced scarcely-veiled criticism.

It surrounded Fernando Torres, who had just leathered in his 26th goal of a wonderful season, justifying a huge Benitez gamble in spending £20.1 million on the Spanish superstar, who had scored just 14 goals the previous season for Atletico.

Liverpool had just beaten Inter, and looked comfortable doing so, so what could Benitez expect as his first question?

This is what he got: "Fernando Torres is in wonderful form, but should he have played more games at the start of the season, and can Liverpool fans expect to see him play every game until the rest of the season?" Or words to that effect.

Now I won't mention names, but anybody watching coverage of the game on TV will know who I mean when I then turn to an even worse comment: "How many goals could Torres have scored had he not been in and out of the team all season? Wouldn't Liverpool fans swap the Champions League for the league?"

More criticism of Rafa's 'rotation policy', where apparently he has dropped Fernando Torres more times than Paul Robinson drops footballs.

So here is a fact for all those who bang on with this 'if only Torres had played more games' nonsense.

Of the Premier League games that Torres has been fit for this season, he has been rested only twice, the last of which came six months ago. The only other game he came off the bench for was on his return from injury against Fulham. A game he scored in and Liverpool won.

Cristiano Ronaldo meanwhile, has been rested three times, and United lost one of those games away at Bolton.

Liverpool aren't trailing United because Torres missed two games, they are trailing because they are not good enough over the course of the season - yet.

The two games Torres was rested for came just two weeks before he picked up a thigh injury that saw him miss over a month of the season. Maybe Rafa knew something.

After all, Frank Rijkaard suffered similar criticism for resting Lionel Messi, right before the Argentine also suffered a muscular injury.

As crazy as it sounds, maybe Rafa knows more than these clueless pundits who continue to use magnificent victories like Tuesday night to bash the Liverpool boss.

I wouldn't bet against him having a second European Cup in his locker to prove it in May.
