bro, they r not that ready lah... i agree sometimes u need to throw young players into the deep end. u see them play well in inconsequential games, thus the pressure is off. but when the pressure is on, like when u r jostling for position on the league table, their teammates will be different, the opposition will be different and every single minute mistake will be glaring... and then they lose confidence.

robbie fowler was not created in a day. souness kept him for as long as he could, he was under pressure to play fowler from all corners but he waited till all his options were dried up so that fowler could play without any pressure to perform.

players like owen, rooney, messi, pato are good recent examples & do you guys remember a young man utd side that won the EPL in the 1990s with beckham, scholes, neville......etc
owen, the granny lover, messi and pato r all from different teams and if u realise, the teams will only blood 1 young player at a time, not a whole bunch or even a few together.

talking about manure, it was a time nothing like that was done before. thus even everyone, shearer and co included, underestimated them. ask the scums to do that again and i m sure they will get a real hiding from everyone else, well except for wigan and west ham.

sincerely hope gems like nemeth, ngog, plessis & pacheco show their true potential & "established" youngter like babel to really step up a gear this season...........;)
benitez is concentrating on blooding babel at the moment. if pool sells alonso, then i suspect he will blood lucas and plessis in the near future. otherwise, it will just be the odd one here and there. youngsters will take time.

can lah, he can cross lah, nice whipping crosses... in the last televised game, i saw something like 4 out of 5 were good crosses. but his defending sucked!!! but whilst i was complaining about dossena during the game, he prevented an almost certain goal from a snacky nacho, i think. thus, his bad defending was forgotten as i tried to decide whether that was the miss of the century or the one by mario gomez... ok, i m rambling again...

I think Pennant is better than most fans think - his great weakness is he can't score for nuts. The only thing I'm unhappy with is if he leaves Pool for 4m. A good English player for 4m!!! That's just bonkers lor.
pennant is yr "favourite" type of player, one who hugs the touchline type:D how to score from there??? unless u r roberto carlos... but he has done more than most people would give him credit for.

i dont want to see pennant go also due to the fact that my wife and i have his number on the back of our jerseys:p

The guy's got a fantastic cross but as I've said many times, a lot of them fail to get pass the first defender. Perhaps it is a case of not playing sufficient 1st team games to get into the groove. If he ever leaves, I'll probably only remember him as the guy who scored a great goal against Chelsea. Sad..

Yo AXL, Pennant's not my 'favourite type' player ok ;) Agreed with Jopet that he has not put in a good cross for a long time - most of his crosses hang in the air or drop five yards behind the player.

But I think he is a smart player who can bring the ball up and test the defense with his probing and dribbing. His fatal weakness is he doesn't possess enough threat himself unlike Kuyt who is also much more useful defensively.

;)

Gerrard worry for Liverpool boss

Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez could be without captain Steven Gerrard for next week's Champions League qualifier against Standard Liege.

The England midfielder suffered a thigh strain in tonight's 4-1 friendly victory over Norwegian side Valerenga.

Gerrard limped off in the first half of Liverpool's comfortable victory and Benitez hopes he will recover in time to face the Belgians, but he cannot yet be inked in for the game on Wednesday week.

'It is a thigh strain. We need to wait but it could be one week,' Benitez told Liverpoolfc.tv: Official Web Site.

Liverpool would not want to take any risks with Gerrard, however his presence against Liege would be welcome as the Reds attempt to take a big stride towards the group stages.

Goals from Fernando Torres, Xabi Alonso, David Ngog and Yossi Benayoun carried Liverpool to a comfortable victory against Valerenga, three days after they hammered Rangers 4-0 at Ibrox.

Benitez said: 'It was another good work-out. It was a good game, with four goals for us and good play.

'But the players aren't 100% yet - that would be difficult right now. The other team were fitter than us but you could see we were passing, pressing and the understanding between the players was better. I am really pleased with the result.

'Normally when you have quality, when you are playing well and creating chances, you will score goals.'

Liverpool's next opponents will be Lazio, who visit Anfield on Friday in a match Gerrard appears sure to miss.

However Benitez is optimistic about the talent emerging at Anfield, and has hailed his scouting network for finding players such as 19-year-old Ngog, the summer recruit from Paris St Germain.

'They are finding players like Ngog, players with quality who are not a high price,' said Benitez.

Just saw the goal highlights on youtube. I must say, the liverpool attack looks damn impressive. Another 4 goals scored - amazingly the same four players that scored against Rangers.

Alonso's goal was class - solid patient build-up followed up by a superb curling finish.

Torres's goal - well, it was typical Torres. Stroking the ball through a defender's leg into goal

Benayoun - Another superb goal from the Israeli. Not such if he really meant to chip the keeper as the slow mo replays showed the ball took a sight bobble when he struck it, but we'll give him the benefit of the doubt.

Ngog -Man, this guy looks good. Cool finish from the frenchmen following a great pass from Pacheo. He's young, cost under 2 million and clearly knows how to score. A real bargain!

in myopinion, benanyoun is under rated. To think that benitez wanted to sell him. lucky this little fella didnt want to leave. i hope that he will feature more regularly this season.

Correction bro, Rafa never said about selling Yossi. It's the press.

haha... i remembered u said u dont like out and out wingers mah...:p

but i still think he is an useful option and his crosses r not that bad lah... but then again, he is not too useful without the ball.

now u r talking. kuyt is my favourite player in the pool team now. he has taken over the mantle of showing what made liverpool great... his unselfishness, his determination, his willingness to run his heart out, his eagerness to support his teammates when attacking and most importantly, his tracking back to help out his defenders. rght side, strong side!!!:D

Wah lau, bro, Pennant is no out and out winger la. keeps cutting inside (maybe he knows he can't cross for nuts). Shall we say, Ronaldo without the goals hehehe. In fact Kuyt keeps to the flank much more ;)

I totally agree and that is what's so frustrating when it comes to Pennant. The boy will sprint down the flanks and you would think he'll whip one in for the likes of Crouch and Torres but NO... he will suddenly stop, doing a couple of jinks and step-overs, then suddenly, will cut inside to the middle? For what?

That said, when he gets his crosses right, they tend to be very good crosses. just that percentage wise, its not fruitful.

As for Kuyt, I think everyone likes him. No nonsense performance - always working his socks off to help in any way he can. I always want him to score because his work ethic deserves it. Hopefully this year he'll bag a couple more than he did last season.
