We will improve as the games progress.
Ist game of the season, there bound to have jitters.
Look at Man U, draw with Newcastle.
Hopefully the news about Rafa is not true.

Re: Liverpool Fc Anfield - Reds Supporters Gatherings

Harry Redknapp delivered a scathing attack on England's tactics after the 2-2 draw against the Czech Republic at Wembley.

The Portsmouth manager claimed the set-up of England's midfield was 'killing' Steven Gerrard, and questioned the logic of playing him in a left-sided role.

'I think we're killing him,' Redknapp said on Setanta 1.

He added: 'Liverpool play on Saturday at home (against Middlesbrough). You'll see a man there (Gerrard) who will run the game.'

Redknapp described Gerrard as a 'Roy of the Rovers' player at club level, and insisted his talent was being wasted by England fielding him out of position.

He also expressed concern about how players are treated by Wembley crowds.

He said: 'What I think is a problem is they play for their clubs and they're loved ... If they make a mistake (for England), they know they're going to be slaughtered at every opportunity.'

At least we have 1 manager who knows what he is talking about! :D

Alonso seems to hit fine form this season, scoring twice for Spain..
Let see what he can do for Liverpool this season!! :D

I know. I read the story on soccernet too. Love him or hate him, Rafa's our man. I also dunno if I should be impressed by his loyalty to Barry or to be frustrated by his lack of choices for the left-midfield position. $18 million pounds can buy a lot of other younger and possibly better left sided-midfielders.

Joaquim is good enough to hold a starting 11 place in any of the top 4 sides.

See what he can do? He can be sold to raise money to buy Barry lor. I don't think Lucas is better than Alonso.

Totally agree...

Joaquim can just walk into any team.. And at 17millon pounds, he's cheaper than Barry! :D

But you really think Alonso should be sold?

Anyone got Rafa's email address? Maybe we can email him to say we want Joaquim! :D

I think Alonso had 2 great seasons in his first 2 seasons with us. Season 3 was not bad but not as good as the first 2 seasons. Last season was his worst for us. Worst in the sense that he's not as good as the first 3 seasons. If you may say, he's a victim of his own high standards.

I think he should be sold (not because i think he's lousy). But because we have too many players in central midfield. Gerrard, Mascherano, Lucas, Phlessis, even Spearing. Rafa clearly rates Lucas more than Alonso. But to sell to Arsenal...

If I'm Rafa, I will sell Lucas and keep Alonso. But Rafa is Rafa... I don't think anyone can change his mind. Look at what he did to Crouch and how Crouch always impresses in whatever limited time he plays last season. If Alonso isn't sold, he won't be playing a lot once Lucas and Mascherano comes back too. Already Phlessis started the first game instead of Alonso. When Alonso came on, he didn't look injured leh.

Sunderland close to signing Cisse from OM
By Soccernet

Marseille president Pape Diouf has revealed Djibril Cisse turned down offers from a number of English sides, including Manchester City, before eventually deciding to join Sunderland.

Djibril Cisse: Poised for Sunderland move.

The France striker is set to move to the Black Cats on a season-long loan deal after they reached an 'agreement in principle' with the French club over his transfer.

Cisse, who spent two-and-a-half seasons with Liverpool between the summer of 2004 and the end of 2006, had spoken of his desire to return to England this summer but it appeared he had missed the boat when he began the new campaign with Marseille.

But with just a week and a half left in the transfer window, Sunderland have made their move, beating off a clutch of Premier League rivals for Cisse's signature.
