Googled a bit and this is what I found: ".......The given information is from the Official Vietnam Government Customs Website; make sure to visit this website before flying to Vietnam to keep updated. - Cigarettes: 400; Cigars: 100; Tobacco: 100 gr; Liquor: 1.5 liters. - Perfume and jewelry for personal use only. - Passengers can bring small gift items valued at not more than US$ 300. ..........." My reasoning is simple...when give VB gifts the VB dun take it as cash or money simply is a gift...so whatever money you promised to give remains the same...VB will not ask you to deduct from the cash money you promised her or she will pay you back the money used to purchase...:) the other thing is you feel heart pain when she used once or twice and she gives away to her sister or friends to use...you may not even know she sold the hangbag away...:) another reason is the handbag sold in HCM is quite cheap...so why not buy there...some may say that those sold in Vietnam is not real thing...but so long you buy and give her she cannot refused...since cheaper and you know ladies like to have many and not one bag...^^ |

WG's IMHO always prefer cold hard cash - as then they can buy whatever they want for themselves and for all the reasons you outline. Yeah, small trinkets from overseas or when out walking around is fine, but to take the trouble to actually buy a particular item, bring it over and worry about customs etc - nahhh! China girls are particularly fond of asking "let's go shopping" and expecting you to go with them and pay for anything and everything she desires; I've learned years ago to either say no or tell her "no, you go yourself, here's some money..." thus putting a limit to the cash outlay as well as re-establishing the fact that yours is a cash based relationship. SEAJ Ps - Another thing - Food and restaurants; these girls just do NOT share our tastes and/or sentiments when it comes to eating. I used to think - "hey, let's treat her and go to a nice restaurant..." Well... for sure not Western or other foreign food places - things I had thought more "Romantic" than the usual local places. WRONG!! Not only do they struggle with the cutlery, they also just cannot appreciate any other things than what they are used to daily! And Romantic? What's that? What a waste of time! And so quiet and dead! Yes, we all forget the socio-economic divide when with a nice SYT! |

She still kept the one I gave to her 2 years back so I don't mind to give her an upgrade :D for the same "brand", so far hcm price may be higher though not sure about this. Quote:
Is like getting a gift for a lady friend. I hope you have friends :D throwing $$ to her and ask her to get herself has no respect for one another. |
Re: Vietnam - HCM (Thread 3)
Actually what I meant was... some greetings pertaining to Year of the Goat... for eg in Chinese we can say:
shēngyì yáng yáng déyì - 生意羊羊得意 (Wish u get what u want in business... playing with the word "yang"...) Thanks for digging out the old posts though. They are also useful for me to learn. :) Quote:
That's true, actually. VB don't care if the brand is original or copy. They just carry it for the big Gucci or Chanel logo. So cash is still best. Don't waste time buying branded this or that... they couldn't care less. The only exception is iPhone & iPad.... that one must be original. :p Quote:

I used to send some gifts to my ex (Armani & Gucci stuff) and most of time have to pay a big amount of money to the viet customs if they open and check the parcel (and sometimes if really unlucky, parcel is lost). |

Since it is expensive stuff then u should use DHL, Fedex or others... if u want to save then normal parcel mail is like playing roulette in casino. |
