Re: Cambodia (Phnom Penh)

Very informative post but there is actually a second shopping mall now called SOVANNA MALL.. by the same group who owned Sorya.

Splashing Out at Sovanna: Cambodia's Mall Culture Comes of Age

its location is a bit off the city centre and is opened middle of last year. It is bigger than Sorya and its design is more contemporary.

and paying USD5 and USD10 for short trips around PP is not cost-effective at all. there is nothing wrong with taking tuk-tuk in the day for USD0.5 or USD1 per trip. If your travel plan include trips to many different places in a single day, just hire a car with driver for roughly USD60 per day. The car and driver will service you from 9am to late evening or late night, on special request. Just approach any travel agency and make the arrangement.

Hope this helps..:p

I am in PP now. The KTV that I usually go to is CASA but the 2nd floor is under renovation and the girls are all squeezed up on the 3rd floor.
Yes, the KTV is old fasihion as stated and I have been brought to other KTVs like he Champ Elyssee and T3 where the decor is better and the sound system is better. But the staff there all speak very litte English and mainly Khymer. I have gone there by myself and usually it is a hand gesture communications only.
Will go to Casa and then post a updated report on the place:p.

Re: Cambodia (Phnom Penh)

Just came back from PP. I had body massage everyday at a price which you wont find in Spore. All bros out there, for a cheap holiday, you can consider PP. My kakis had regular driver there, at 30USD per day who will bring you to anywhere you wanted to go and also all the nice makan places. Lao Di Fang is a nice chinese restuarant, price reasonable and food is good. But bear in mind that it is usually crowded if you decided to go at a later timing.
For KTV, went to casa, shanghai and mega (if i didnt remembered wrongly). Ktv there is usually crowded unless you go early or you can call the mummy there to book room. Casa (855-23 360 399), room is not so posh but still above avg. Shanghai is quite well-decorated and the system is good. I had a chio SYT viet who can easily posed off as a tertiary student in orchard. Price of liquor, chivas/black label is abt 65USD, buy 2 get 1 free. Mixer is charged seperately by cans.Overall, it is so much cheaper to cheong there than in Spore. Airport tax is 25USD. Thats all for my little contribution on PP.

Re: Cambodia (Phnom Penh)

Day 1

We arrived late afternoon due to flight delay. After check-in at Casa Hotel and wash up, we went for dinner at TATA Restaurant located at National Road 6A, Khan Ruessei Kaev, Phnom Penh. This place serves local Khmer dishes and has a performing stage for singers. After dinner, we went to Man Chhen (满城) Ktv located at No. 14, Street 278, Sangkat Beong Keng Kang 1, Khan Chamkarmon, Phnom Penh. It is a 3-storey building with 16 rooms and has PRC, Vietnamese and Khmer gals for selection. Tip for gal is USD 20.

Slightly after midnight, we decided to call it a day. As we reached the hotel, we realised there were crowds outside the Casa disco which was not the scene we saw last year. As I am still energetic and empty-handed, I decided to check-out the place alone. The place was playing techno and I spotted few pretty gals in the dance hall. I decided to park myself at the corner to observe the scene and ordered a bottle of Budweiser beer at USD 5.50.

Beside the main hall, I keep seeing gals going in and out from another room and the door tends to remain close from time to time. My first thought was that it might be another room playing a different kind of music like hip-hop where it needs to be separated from the main hall or perhaps there is a private function going on. But because some of the gals that I am eyeing went in that I decided to quickly follow them.

Once inside, I realised the music is the same as the main hall and there were more gals. I try to look closer under the disco light to identify their nationality. As I scanned the room, a shocking scene emerged. At the far end of the room, I saw people queuing, taking a straw and begin to inhale from a plate of white powder. Oh my god , are they taking “Special K” ? Am I supposed to see this openly? If this is a private event, then I may be seen as a non-invited guest and who knows what will happen next.

Without delay and to make my presence ‘more-friendly’, I quickly strike a conversation with a gal next to me and ask whether she is Vietnamese. She was and could even speak Mandarin. I asked whether all there gals here are Vietnamese and they are indeed. I remain sensitive to the surrounding and did not ask many questions. The gal move on to her friends and more gals began to fill up the room as time passed. I joined another gal for her techno dance as she seems to enjoy it with kisses in between break. My eyes always radar the room for the activity that is on-going while I dance so that it will not be obvious to whoever is watching. When the gal offers me drink few times, I go through the drinking motion (just a sip actually) as I am not sure whether the powder has been added.

After staying for many hours until 5 am, I am tired and decided to go back room. The gal asked for tip and I gave her USD 15 since she kept me company for the night, allowing me to have this close encounter of the K scene. My observation is that the powder is mild as not many of the people are high. Only spotted 3 gals that looked so zombie, one of them is my type. Also the powder is being consumed FOC together with all the drinks.

(apologised for being long-winded :p)

To be continued for Day 2....
