TRANSFER NEWS #5

A deal to take Liverpool pair Xabi Alonso and Alvaro Arbeloa to the Bernabeu is still very much on after Valdano said his personal differences would not hamper any discussions for the duo. A fee of 45 million (£38.5m) for both has been mooted.

Why is there talk among us about Mascherano wanting to leave or his heart not with Liverpool??

I have yet to see any signs that he is not interested in playing at Anfield..

Read tomorrow's newspaper........ he claims his heart is with Liverpool but when it comes to money.......... he finds it hard to resist Real Madrid's offer :(

In the end....... MONEY TALKS !!

Of course Money Talks. Don't forget that this is their ricebowl. They too have families to feed. Plus it's a short career that may end at 35, if they are lucky to escape injuries. Even if we don't sell, I'm sure they will play their hearts out for us in the coming year. Reason? The world cup is next year. Surely, all the players will want to play at their best to attract the attention of their country managers. Even injury prone Harry Kewell 'recovered' for the year before the last World Cup...

according to the press and rumours,

guess 1 of XA or JM is off...

but we can't afford to lose 2 at the same time.. tat will create a big disruption to teh squad..
after the best season for so many years, this is the last thing we want to happen to our team..

who u guys think is easier to replace? XA or JM?
and who r the possible replacement?

:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

Rafa is no superman,& neither r his players.
I believe if he was given the chance 2 add a few good players on 2 the current team, then he k once again challenge 4 the EPL title.
If he needs 2 sell some cuurent good players 2 make way 4 new signings, then it's rebuilding.
$$ determines the direction of play in everyday life,& in everything.

I would say JM. To me, he's a Momo with better ball distribution. Momo tends to be careless with his passes. To find another combative holding midfielder shouldn't be that difficult. If the rumours that JM is only earning $30K pounds weekly, I think the rumours of him joining Real may also be a play to get Liverpool to increase his wages on a new contract. I think JM is worth more than $30K pounds weekly.

To find someone with Alonso's passing range and calmness will be much harder. When he's on-form, the wingers get well-fed. Plus Alonso's better at tackling now than in his first season with us. Oh 1 more thing, Alonso has a special skill I've never seen before in other players. He seems so slow (which he isn't) that other players think they can tackle him. It ended with 6 opponents sent off last season. :D Not to mention the goals he scores from our own half.. into the opponent's goal of course.

Reina saves goals, Torres scores goals, Alonso reduces the number of opponents on the pitch. What a spine! :p

agree wif u...
i think we should increase his pay and retain him if possible..
if not, hope we can squeeze some ridiculous price out of any player tat may leave.. so tat we can replace with some quality player..
similar player tat comes into my mind: Michael Essien, Mahamadou Diarra (if u remember him, he was from Lyon, now at Real Madrid), Yahya Toure...

as for XA, he's a rare breed of player... apart of his passing, he's extraordinary calm and comfortable with the ball, even in tight situation(similar to Xavi).. tat's why opponents ended up tackling his leg.. :p:p:p

i think if rafa is not limited by the financial situation of the club, he would "strengthen" and not "rebuild" the team...
i.e. adding, instead of selling and replacing...
u dun "rebuild" a team which came so close to winning title...

bro, not easy to find someone who chases to the ends of the earth for the ball like mascherano. if he is only earning $30k weekly, then something is wrong somewhere. i bet my last dollar JM's last owner has something to do with it. however, i cant imagine rafa allowed a release clause in the contract stating only 30mil!!!

i would expect liverpool to concede more goals next season then if JM goes. but if really he has to go, i would prefer him to go to barcelona, so that yahya toure can come from the other direction. real has no players to exchange.

alonso is calm and collected when passing cos he has, covering at his back, the most combative defensive midfielder in the world. to me, you can never replace a mascherano. to me, he embodies the liverpool spirit of old...

just my 2 cents. YNWA.;)

To me if we can keep the 2 it is the best but if we have only 1 choice i prefer to keeo XA cos he seldom lose his cool unlike JM
JM might have forget that Rafa rescue him from deep shit from West Ham where he had no chance to plat unlike Terzve alone help the team from relegation
Some bros might think this is bullshit but any1 do remember that against Man Utd he argue wz ref and got himself a marching order
Instead of going thru the tunnel he refused and create a scene which i can never forget ( its not selective memory but the ugly scene cause the team suffer their 1 of worst defeat against the bitter rival which i think u guys also will never forget )
Also if his heart is not wz us can any1 assured tat he will be playing with co 100% he is not irresplacable Rafa just have to find the player in the market or groom from the youth player like Jear Speraing or convert IuSua ( if i spell correctly ) just like we do on Kyut
Lastly i been a fan of Liverpool since i was young - support player like Rush/John Barnes/Fowler etc etc i really hate to see we always finished 2nd/3rd or lower hearts really pain but we have to keep faith of wat we are doing now and hopefully Steve G and have his hand on the League Cup b4 he retire after 2013

of course all liverpool fans would love to see both alonso and mascherano stay put. what happened at west ham is water under the bridge. JM would do well to remember rafa saved him from that debacle but i m sure any manager with a lil bit of common sense would want JM in their team then. but to our blessed luck, he chose liverpool.

XA and JM r very different type of players, even though they r both termed as defensive midfielders. JM is a destroyer while XA is the creative one, who usually benefits from JM's intervention. their roles will reverse once in a while but not often. for someone to be disrupting the opponents' movement and passing, to tackle and tackle hard, and not to mention chase the opposing player with the ball to the ends of the earth, i dont think i have seen any worldclass midfield enforcer without a temper.

think of vieira, souness, steve mcmahon and the only player i respect turning out in the manure jersey, roy keane. they r great players who have tempers bigger than JM, even though i dont think they will ever match an in-form mascherano. dont think anyone dares to say otherwise if i say mascherano is the best in the world in his position. really cant think of anyone else.

as for the sending off, i remembered that manure's manager was complaining that players were disrespectful to referees the week leading to the game. do u remember??? and JM was given a 2nd yellow for asking the ref something, nicely somemore. i dont see manure's players getting sent off for screaming at refs when things dont go their way. anyway, JM has learnt his lesson and not argue or question the ref liao. and he puts his hands behind his back these days.

so far, only his agent has come forward to say he wants to go. even for yesterday's report, mascherano only said he was honoured to be targetted by both real madrid and barcelona. c'mon, even liverpool pales in comparison. and did he say he wants to leave??? he probably wants to increase his pay. 30k per week is really ridiculous, even in this financial crisis.

no player is irreplaceable. there will be players who can come in to cover the position. but to perform at his level, unlikely.

need to tell people u r liverpool fan meh??? if u r, u r. u r only a true fan when u support them even when they r not winning. i dread the day when liverpool starts to dominate the premier league (LOL... just kidding!!!) but i dread the feeling of those fairweather fans switching to wearing the liverpool jersey. i would really be insulted.;)

oh, stevie g can play beyond 2013 lah...

Bro, since your name list spans over a few decades, let me put in a name. Makelele. I think he was better than Mascherano plus he seemed pretty mild mannered. The holding position is also called the Makelele role sometimes.

I wonder if Rafa will trust Damien Phlesis. He seemed interesting 2 seasons back when he played for us. I also wonder if Alonso is sold, will Rafa replace him with Lucas? Cos Lucas seemed like a creative defensive midfielder to Rafa. Got some similiarities. But if we sell Mascherano, Rafa may not replace him with Lucas as they are 2 different players.

Re: Liverpool Fc @ Anfield - Reds Supporters Gatherings

mascherano is good but Rafa should think of some replacement cos we can't depends on him so often - wat happen if he drop of form or injuries ? We lose to Man Utd due to we too reply on Torres/Stevie G when they not playing we dun perform well and also not able to pentratate wealer team cos they tends to play very defensive
I say tat i am a fan of the red army because i really hate to see our premier league record is been level wz the red devils and for the CL we already won 5 but they also have 3 in their record
When Man U lose to Bacra at CL me n my colleague are so happy tat we jump around other ppls might tot i am a Bacra fan cos i remember SAF did curse Liverpool met AC Milan on the CL and now it is their turn to taste it
Also i think Rafa should start to groom successor for Stevie G right now as when he grow older he tends to be more injury prone

Re: Liverpool Fc @ Anfield - Reds Supporters Gatherings

In this current time, probably you would not go wrong if you claim JM is one of the best in his position as DM destroyer. Dont forget he is the captain of Argentina as well. He should least know that rafa 'rescued' him when he was at west ham and gave him the chance to play for one of the most supported teams. THis also allowed to show everyone his true abilities and as much as i hate to say, i do not want to see him go to any other team unless its in the argentina league.

If its true his wages is 30K per week, then i feel its not unreasonable for JM to ask for increment in line with his contribution to the team's performance. I dont tink he will 'purposely' play badly if he stays at pool as its also a WC year and he is the appointed captain. if his performances suck really bad, even maradona may drop him la..

There are usually alot of nonsense rumours created by all the agents in order to make a mountain out of a molehill. So lets hope rafa values JM and gives him improved terms and keeps the axis of the midfield together-- JM + XA (world class)
