Benitez has already rejected a separate £3 million offer from Real for Arbeloa this week.

Macsh has been slapped with 50M and alonso 35M valuations as per reported by soccernet. Madrid's valuation is dam far off anyway.

I doubt there are clubs that really want to buy them with concrete offers as these are mostly news / tactics used to unsettle the players.

Its what you call mind fucking them so they will want to leave the club.:cool:

Bro, my view is that besides the price, it's also about timing. So what if we get 85M? Got time to buy good replacements? If this uncertainty drags on, it will affect morale. Don't wish the Keane sage to happen again. We sold him so late that we got no time to find replacement. End up 4 points to heaven.

got ur pt. you are right but i guess the club cant stop other teams from making baseless statements to buy our players, which in turn unsettle and lower their morale.

Unless they want to take action and sue them eg like the recent manu case vs real. But its true we do not wish for the players to go unless its for arboela case. but as for our midfield players, masch + alonso we dont need to sell them to raise cash for new players anyway. Perhaps they just have some pay increment issues and therefore their agents are using this to enginneer something out of nothing.

Unless some club offers concrete deals like 50M for either 1, then screw all those bullshit news and just keep our fingers crossed. I think alonso has told his agent that he has given time to REAL to make a deal by 19july.

Xabi Alonso has reportedly told his agent: Finalise my transfer to Real Madrid by July 19 or I will stay at Liverpool.

In a highly-detailed account of the emerging saga, The Daily Mail reports that 'The Liverpool midfielder, who has been on international duty with Spain at the Confederations Cup in South Africa, met his representative Inaki Ibanez immediately after flying back to Madrid yesterday. Alonso went straight to lunch with Ibanez at Madrid's Hotel Melia Barajas after getting off a 10-hour flight from Johannesburg.'

It was at this meeting that Alonso is said to have set a deadline - July 19 is the date on which he is scheduled to return to Anfield for pre-season training - for his proposed move to Real. He is quoted as saying to Spanish newspaper AS: "I don't know what will happen. The clubs now have to negotiate."

According to the Mail, 'Madrid are considering a £55million combined bid for Alonso, Javier Mascherano and Alvaro Arbeloa, but are prepared to negotiate players separately as Liverpool are unlikely to even contemplate losing both Alonso and Mascherano. In a bid to scare off suitors, Benitez has quoted a price-tag of £50m for Alonso, but sources in Spain say the actual valuation coming out of Merseyside is £35m.'

I guess to put off those clubs, Pool got to hang a huge price tag on the players.
But if the player's heart is not on the club anymore, no point keeping the lad against his wishes.
Gerrard and Torres need to keep the morale of the team together in order for the club to have a formidable team capable enough against Man U, Man City, Chelsea and Arsenal etc....

Strangely, Carragher was the acting 'team manager' to keep everyone together :D

We are as guilty as them too. Just think of how we handled the Barry incident. Sounds like how RM is targetting Alonso now right? Rumours are part and parcel of football. I think the statements could be released by the player's agent too. Trying to negotiate a better deal for their client. If Masch is really on $30K weekly, maybe his agent will spread some rumours to force us to upgrade his pay?

Some players are very good at spreading rumours themselves. I think Arshavin or Adebayor keep trying to link themselves to other teams.

Liverpool's reserve is low, that is why so little movement in the transfer's market.
the interest payment takes the toll on Liverpool, unless they can find a new investor or buyer soon else this coming season will be a miserable for the Reds.

Actually Jamie is the REAL leader at Anfield....... Gerrard is only the figurehead...... everybody in the dressing room listens when Jamie speaks coz he is so knowledgeable on almost every aspect of the game....... sometimes even Benitez will let Jamie do the pre-match briefing :p

He will make an excellent manager when his playing days are over. :D

i think Stevie inspires the team through his attacking side ie. scoring, creating.. makes everybody a better player.

while jamie is the unsung hero, rarely given credit but always very consistent and determined to help the team. Someone like what terry is to chelsea. ;)

Eh I don't see how Carra is an unsung hero anymore, maybe 4 years ago; every Liverpool fan and any football fan other than the Mancs would recognise his role in the team now. Even a half-baked pundit. ;)
