Usually, they want some ID, to prove that you are LEGALLY here. Sometimes, they are looking for $$, sometimes, just a show for their boss that they are working. Most of the time, they cho bo, waiting for chance to get some $$ if possible.

Passport? Bring along with you wherever you go, and make sure you keep it safe with you. I kana pick once, lost all my important documents as well. That is in a SHOPPING MALL, so dont think it is safe.

Hehehe, DNAT, you keep yours in hotel? So if they spot check you, you going to ask the hotel to clarify? Usually, from what I know, if you are to be in BAtam for more than 24 hours, you need to report to the local police. However, if you check into a hotel, they will report it for you.

You will not be in much trouble if you dont have illegal sustance with you. Just dont do drugs. However, if they plant it for you, then too bad. You got to be careful. IF THEY COME FOR YOU IN HOTEL ROOM DEMANDING A CHECK, then I am quite sure someone set you up.

Update:

Batam, still safe and sound, checks not as exaggerated as mentioned, in fact, never dio... yet. :)
More security commandos seen at the shopping centre.

Booking-wise, normal, cewek majority there, no new updates seen..... maybe 1 or 2...


Food wise, getting expensive..... then the previoous 2-3 months..... :eek:

In short: Still worth going, one of the reason for the recent checks :

Scare of bomb. Due to Christmasss.

Tonite Zouk Batam grand opening party.
Heard it's going to be quite a happening club. Same concept as the Sg one, it's been said that they bought the franchise from Zouk Sg.
