For the Reds to stand any chance of progressing to the knock-out stages of the competition they have to beat the Hungarian champions. Any other result and Liverpool will be out of the Champions League.

If Rafael Benitez's men collect all three points in Budapest then attention will quickly swing to more than 400 miles away where Fiorentina host Lyon in the other Group E encounter this evening.

If Liverpool beat Debrecen and Fiorentina beat Lyon then Liverpool are out of the competition.

If Liverpool beat Debrecen and Fiorentina draw with Lyon then Liverpool need to beat Fiorentina by a three goal margin in their final group game to progress.

If Liverpool beat Debrecen and Fiorentina lose to Lyon then Liverpool need to beat Fiorentina by any scoreline in their final group game to progress.

we are out of of the CL as Fiorentina also beaten Lyon with a similiar score 1-0.
it is Europa League for us.
bad news for Rafa,as it will have a cash impact on the fund available for him during the January's transfer window.
personally,i would like us to concentrate on the EPL,rather than competing in the Europa League,risk the injuries & tiredness for the players and also this season the fight for 3rd and 4th placing in EPL is very competitive.

I think you are right, we have to revive our league campaign now - but I don't think Rafa will throw away the Europa league as it is the best chance of winning something this season (other than FA Cup). Its cash rewards have improved haven't they?

Any chance of not qualifying for Europa league? :)

even we qualify for CL group stage, i doubt the money will be made available to him too.. most likely all the money will go to servicing the loan..

it was revealed tat sunderland bought michael turner for approx. 4 mil pounds!! meaning tat at teh beginning of the season when we were so desperately looking for defensive cover, we couldn't afford tat extra 2 mil and ended up with tat greek defender!!

rather see rafa try to salvage our season by getting as many pts from remaining campaign in the EPL. try to get into the top4 again instead of dreaming for the title for now..

perhaps try to blood new talent in the europa league now as well?

there is no guarantee that there will be new funds available even if rafa sold during the jan window... tis year could almost end alot sooner than xmas.. but again i will always support our reds nonetheless..

actually the Reds were kicked out of the CL by their pathetic defending in the dying mins of the match in Lyon in early Nov...biggest culprit was that useless piece of shit old fart pony tailed greek git Kryg...

i do not hv much time for Jaime Redknapp but what he said abt the Reds defence this season is spot on...bloody hopeless, in particular the dismal n diabolical zonal marking system that is just not working...why the f#@k Rafa stubbornly sticks to this system even after becoming the worst defending set piece team in the EPL is beyond me...same goes for his team selection n tactics at times...

anysways what is done is done...the way i see it...the Reds sld now just concentrate 100% on getting a top 4 EPL spot this season...CL qualification next season must be the be all n end all now...nothing else matters...FA Cup n Europa Cup competitions field useless shits like Kryg n Voronin n even make Lucas captain for all i care...also blood in all the youngsters in these 2 competitions...but keep the first XI plus 1or 2 other key squad members out...these chaps must be 100% focused on the EPL fm now on...

i see it differently.

if liverpool goes on to be more successful , the american duos will continue to be more greedy and refuse to lower their asking price. with the current economic climate, its hard to find a buyer to fund the purchase. it will be a vicious cycle, money won fr champions league n epl will be channelled to pay for the debts of the club.

only if liverpool gets knocked out of CL - which it has - and loses out playing in CL next year, then the club can move on - remove dissenting players and the american duos with no choice, will have a fire sale. then the rich dubai fella can come and rebuild the club again. he can remake liverpool like the way man city has. sad but i think it has to this way for everyone to move on.

Rafa is not as stupid as he looks :p ...... I suspect that cunning spanish fox is scheming to get rid of the Americanos and doing it deliberately :D....... I won't be surprised if Liverpool finish outside the top 4 this year...... it's a win-win-win situation for Rafa :p

Haha I see it this way too, and perhaps this is the only way since David Moores opted for more money by going with the Yanks rather than the Arabs. It will have to get worse (a LOT WORSE) before it gets better. And Rafa and some of our stars may not survive the cull. ;)
