Bro,

It is pre-season, it may not be good if we peak too early and run out of steam for the Premiership. I believe we could have a good Champion League campaign if we can win vital matches. However, in the Premiership, we need to start performing against the old top 7. Results is what matters nowadays.

Below is the Eusebio cup news:
http://www.tottenhamhotspur.com/news...up-030810.html

Hopefully, the goalkeeper and defenders don't absent themselves midway during matches, the midfielders start to cut-off opponent's supply, string together passes and score when it matters most, the strikers remember to bring their boots for matches and treasure every opportunity like it is their last.

Bro,

I actually don't mind them playing badly during pre-season. It is the new season that matters. Moreover, Man U and Chelsea are not doing well too during pre-season.

Playing beautiful game without result and scoring plentiful with a leaking defence is no difference because in the end you may get relegated. Hence, the best balance is to play as a consolidated unit and seize all opportunities coming your way.

Re: Tottenham Hotspur - the Pride of London

ok spurs get swiss young boys. :D

Tottenham's Champions League journey begins against Swiss side Young Boys, who beat Turkish giants Fenerbahce in the previous round to book their place in the play-off.

However, Harry Redknapp and company will be buoyed by the fact that, after leading the Swiss League by 13 points in September, Young Boys lost the title as Basel overcame them 2-0 on the final day of the season. They have also failed to win any of their opening three games this year.

Elsewhere, there are some intriguing ties as Zenit St Petersburg meet Auxerre, Ajax take on Dynamo Kiev and Partizan Belgrade face Anderlecht.

The two sides of the draw are split into Champions - which is self-explanatory - and League, which means the teams qualified through their league position.

Ties to be played August 17, 18 and 24, 25.

Young Boys v Tottenham Hotspur
Braga v Sevilla
Werder Bremen v Sampdoria
Zenit St. Petersburg v Auxerre
Dynamo Kiev v Ajax
Salzburg v Hapoel Tel-Aviv
Rosenborg v FC Copenhagen
Basel v FC Sheriff
Sparta Prague v MSK Zilina
Partizan Belgrade v Anderlecht

Hopefully, there will be no complacency with this fixture. It doesn't matter how Young Boys feature in other games, it is important that Spurs' players set out to do their part. Pre-season is over, the season just started. Let's hope that there will be a good start to the season.

the great ardiles share your view bro. :D

http://172.31.254.242/soccernet-asse...12_275x155.gif

Ossie Ardiles believes Spurs could mount a serious title challenge

Spurs face Swiss side Young Boys in the Champions League play-off round for the chance to sit at European football's top table for the first time since 1962, but questions have been raised about whether Harry Redknapp's squad is well enough equipped to compete on all fronts.

Ardiles, who represented Spurs with distinction for ten years after arriving as a recent World Cup winner with Argentina in 1978, believes the players will thrive on the challenge.

"I don't think the Champions League will be a distraction," Ardiles told Soccernet. "I think this scenario of there being too many games is used an excuse but I don't believe it.

"If you are in the Champions League it is great - you are playing with the best in the world and the players like to play in these games. The confidence of playing in these games is then translated to the bread and butter of the Premier League."

It has been a pre-season of surprising inactivity in the transfer market for Redknapp thus far, but despite a lack of new faces at White Hart Lane, Ardiles believes the Spurs boss is close to assembling a squad capable of mounting a genuine title challenge.

"Harry is still looking in the transfer market to see if he can bring one or two more top quality players in," Ardiles said. "The squad is very strong but one or two additions could see us think about challenging for the title.

great attacking football in the 1st half from spurs, the early part of 2nd half was just about trying to keep the ball until pavlyuchenko and robbie took over from defoe and crouchy in the 68th.

Below is the Champions League qualifying report from ESPN:
http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/st...league&cc=4716

We are lucky not to loss 5-2 or 6-2 due to Young Boys not finding their bearings in the 2nd half. Our strikers are not deadly enough not capitalising on opportunities, defenders are too slow to deal with dangers, midfield is weak to stamp out any attack and we lost the ball too many times.

However, the 2 goals are very important for us in the return leg if we capitalised and score a good win. Hopefully, we will perform better against them at WHL.

Below is the report on Harry Redkanpp's call for Astroturf to be banned from the Champions League:
http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/st...c=4716&cc=4716

For whatever reason sake Harry,
1) Spurs fall asleep in the first 30minute and the mental build-up to the match was slack. So what if we are from EPL? That doesn't mean other league doesn't have good team.
2) We have yet to prove ourselves in the 2 matches. Defence easily split, midfield unable to hold up against better team and strikers are firing blanks.
3) Our strikers are not deadly enough, just look at the Man City match. Joe Hart is good, but our strikers are not making sure the goalkeeper loose the ball with their shots.
4) Moreover, the timing of certain situation like strikers/midfielders cutting-in in front of defenders to touch/shoot the ball towards goal. This type of situation will cause the goalkeeper to make a save and probably push the ball to the rear where another of our players is waiting to put the ball into an empty net.

Most great teams are doing it. It actually separates the great teams from good teams when we are talking about deadly finishing, midfield control and stout defending.

I don't want to be critical, but I do not think we should accept aftermath pointing of fingers outwards. Look at ourselves 1st, Harry.

Dawson did the right thing by not blaming the pitch and Bassong does the same by blaming himself for making foundamental mistake/s (http://www.tottenhamhotspur.com/news...ck-180810.html).

In general, astroturf may not be the most ideal, but how about Wembly last year. Wembly was more than a nightmare as compared to astroturf.we should thank Young Boys for showing us the way we should finish off opponents (which is 4 shots in 30 minutes, 1 hitting post and 3 killed)

Let's hope we can get through to the next round with the proper mindset.

"He's a no-brainer on a free transfer," Redknapp said. "He's never asked for big money here. The chairman's agreed a one-year contract with him and the wages are more than reasonable.

"He's done nothing wrong. What's he done wrong? He's not the first player to go from Arsenal to Tottenham or Tottenham to Arsenal. It happens all the time. He won championships and all sorts at Chelsea.

"He's a great lad as well, smashing fellow. I've been absolutely really impressed with him. He'll improve Tottenham and that's all I'm concerned about. He wants to come here and play and I think that shows the character. He could say, 'I played at Arsenal; I daren't go there'. He's got the bottle to want to come and play here.

"I don't think his attitude's ever been questioned. The only problem he has, he gets annoyed with people at times - they tell me - who are not as professional as he is, which is not a bad thing. That can't do any harm.

"He wants everybody to be as professional and want to win as much as he does. If he can bring that to this team as well, that'll be a good bonus for us. Whenever we've played against him over the years, I've always thought he was a world-class defender.''

Courtesy of ESPNSoccernet the report of this morning's match:
http://soccernet.espn.go.com/report?id=306808&cc=4716

Crouch's hatrick and Defoe's goal before his surgery helped Tottenham to reach the group stage.

Great play this morning, we were swamping over Young Boys (YB), restricting YB to only one clear chance and couple of shots outside the box. The only worry is Gomes, he was struggling with injury after our 2nd goal. Hopefully, he will be fine this weekend, if not Cudicini is still capable of manage.

Bro,

Hopefully, Inter under Benitez will be going downhill like what he has done previously. As for the other 2 teams, we can play counter-attack when away and with the WHL crowd we should do well.:D

Anyway, we are in our first foray in 50 years, we cannot expect the sky. I guess if Harry and the lads choose to enjoy our football and not pressure ourselves unnecessarily, we should not fare too badly. This is a valuable experience and we can grow from there.

I guess we should enjoy our first Champions League.

i have a humble different view bro, it is not mourinho's all conquering inter this time (i wish cambiasso can play for spurs one day). werder has not started well this season as they were thrashed 4-1 in their opening game, they are spurs' first cl opponent in mid sep.

Bro,

I begged to differ. Try putting yourself in the players' shoes, 6 games in 15 days and International games coming up. Hey, it's just the begining of the season and playing these much games after so many years of not having to play in such intensity.

I guess not only Spurs suffering, look at Man City, they have plentiful of star players and they also lost. Sudden influx of games will cause fatigue and injuries if not managed properly.

I know we want Spurs to win every game, but we have to be realistic, 7-0 is not realistic, Chelsea did not win 6-0 again, Arsenal did not win 6-0 again too. Moreover, if Wigan are to loss every game by an average of 5 goals, Martinez won't be the manager even before the season starts. It got to end somewhere, unfortunately, they turn up at WHL.

Keep cool and chill, it's just the begining.:)

Take it easy Bro.

This is the big league we are talking about. No one that I know can run before they learn how to walk...

I do not expect Spurs to be in the knock-out stage, in fact, I expect them to suffer a bit in the Champions League, gets knock around in the EPL and eliminated in FA Cup and Carling Cup.

I am still a loyal Spurs fan, but I guess I have to be realistic with our chances.
