VDV's CV

The Holland international came through the ranks at Ajax and won two league titles during 141 appearances with the Eredivisie side, scoring 60 goals before leaving for Hamburg in the summer of 2005.

The attacking midfielder, 27, was the Bundesliga side's leading scorer in his first season in Germany and went on to captain the side before joining Real Madrid ahead of the 2007/08 campaign. Rafael has been capped by Holland a total of 83 times, scoring 16 goals, since making his international debut against Andorra in 2001 at the age of 18.

He has since represented the Netherlands at two European Championships and two World Cups, including this summer's tournament in South Africa where he featured five times in the side's run to the Final.

Hopefully, he can bland-in with the team's play becoz we tend to favour the long ball with Crouch playing. I guess he can always be at the right place at the right time and wack in a goal.:D

Below is Harry's view of the match against the Baggies:

http://www.tottenhamhotspur.com/news...ry-110910.html

We are creative when VDV and Modric were at full swing. Only plus point until Modric gets injured.
Pavy were pathetic with his positioning, although control has improved.
Lennon disappear from action with only 1 or 2 flashes and yet didn't score.
Palacios were off-key, off-colour, off-tune, or even turned-off in this game.
Gallas were out of breathe.
Cudicini wasn't convincing with his punching of the ball.

We have definitely found the right formular with Modric and VDV, but we are lacking when Modric were substituted. Krancjar not convincing enough as Modric's replacement.

I guess Harry need to work out a few combination for different type of teams. This is the 2nd Ws that we have failed to get a favourable results, we have a few more coming up. Hopefully, it is Ws (Wins) for us and not for the opposition.

Harry, remember Champions League qualification doesn't mean automatic qualification for next year's Champions League, we still need results in EPL. Don't dream about winning the EPL with such performance/s. Think about securing and consolidating Top 4 position for the next couple of seasons 1st + win some trophy/s before we boldly claim our bid for the title. Be realistic, plant the players' foot on the ground 1st.;)

Another W, another lost of points. 3 teams starting with W, we lost 7 points out of a possible 9.

Below is the report of this morning's Champions League:
http://www.tottenhamhotspur.com/news...rt-140910.html

Next, against Wolves at WHL. Please... Please... Spurs players, the season has started.

Players like Palacios, Huddlestone, Assou-Ekotto, Bassong, Kranjcar, Lennon, Pavlyuchenko, Keane and those still living in last season's 4th position finish celebration. Please come back to reality. Play like a professional, play like a team and not a bunch of individuals, play for the fans whom follow you faithfully, play for yourselves as medals will be yours and bigger clubs will come for you when you earn honours (although I am not encouraging players to think like that, but I guess this is reality of life).

We are missing too much chances (shooting blanks when it matters most and scoring aplenty when we are already at a comfortable stage of a game), giving away too much silly goals from defence and goalkeeping, mentally too weak when coping with:
1) being closed down by opposition;
2) being attack;
3) passing accuracy; and/or
4) contigency plan when key player/s gotten injured.

We have to accept the fact that every, and I mean EVERY, team will come after us to test our character as a contender (be it EPL or Champions League or any Cup tie). Professional players will deal with it professionally. Hopefully, we have professional players whom are able to deal with the pressure.

Remember Tottenham, with success come expectation, learn to manage the pressure of expectation and excel.

Bro,

You are right, man, 3Cs.:D

However, if the first half effort were to be put under the microscope, our strikers are firing blanks again especially with the goal at their mercy.

1) With Champions League, EPL, Carling Cup and FA Cup matches all piling up, it is all the more important that we make chances count and not waste them because if we can be comfortable early, we do not need to chase every game til the last minute and we can reserve energy for other games as well as saving the injury list.

2) Our physio team has to strengthen with the number of games surging, the players need proper treatment to injuries as well as proper therapy after games. Massaging is important for muscles revitalisation.

Hopefully, Harry looks into these aspect of improving the players' fitness and sharpness.

it seems ex spurs striker diabolical dimitar is having his best start in epl this season.
a hat-trick against liverpool. the bicycle kick has my vote for goal of the season.

http://172.31.254.242/soccernet-asse...19_500x281.jpg
Dimitar Berbatov fires home United's second goal, after he had also netted the first, to give Manchester United a 2-0 lead over Liverpool.

elsewhere, nothing is going right for schalke 04 since they had the great raul on board. 04 straight losses in the 1st 4 matches. but i think they'll win the 5th game.

Raul could not inspire Schalke to a win as the Bundesliga's worst side lost their fourth game in a row. This time to rivals Dortmund.

i am so happy spurs is out of the mickey mouse cup, though the 1-4 AET defeat at the hands of arsenal does leave a bitter diet coke taste. there is plenty of opportunity for revenge in the FA cup.

its a london clash this weekend in upton park against sorry west ham. i hope scott parker can lift the hammers but not in this game that is.

next champs league clash is against last season's dutch eredivisie champion twente next midweek 30-sep. they are ranked 4th in the dutch league now with 3 wins and 3 draws, a more respectable season so far than crisis hit werder bremen. twente held mighty inter 2-2 earlier.
nevertheless, the lily whites will get all spoils against twente in whl.

ok just as i thought, schalke defeated freiburg 2-1 to break the duck in their 5th game. i'll toast to shalke 04 and raul when i drink with the beer money i won from this match. :D

You are rite, Bro Castrol.

Really disappointed with the way Spurs played, unable to kill off the chances, wasting so many chances. What is the point of creating chance after chance when you are not finishing it at all?

It is not Green that is playing well enough, it is Spurs being wasteful and not deadly enough. I hate to mention, but look at Arsenal, they loss with pride, crawl back from 3-0 down to 3-2. Below is the report of Harry left frustrated by Green:

http://www.tottenhamhotspur.com/news...en-250910.html

We will not be able to challenge for 4th again this season with such wimp performance. The only plus point is that Modric and VDV can play magnificent football together, the rest of the team just seems to relax and rely on both of them for some magic.

Disappointing display...

8m pounds for an attacking midfielder who helped ajax rule netherlands and brought hamburg to champions league qualification, and now show the world what beautiful football is with spurs, what a steal.

i really love harry for the right balance with the midfielders and strikers, but i can see crouchy is more like an assistant striker now. he may finish the season with the most assists. :D

by the way, ledley is still playing 1 game and resting 5 games. i dont know man, he's fucking good only when he is fit to play, if you catch my drift.

Bro Castrol,

When Harry first arrived at WHL, he did mentioned that it is important to find the right balance for the team. He inherited not only an unbalance team, but also players with too much attitude problem (which is very visible and I have mentioned in some of my earlier post when Harry came in). He also transformed so many of them the first season:
Gomes, Bentley, Pavy, Assou-Ekotto, Bale...

Then came the second season he transformed Hutton into a formidable right back in the absence of Corluka and Kaboul. He is also able to get the best out of Lennon, Huddlestone, Dawson, and most notable of all Gomes.

Gomes is missed during his injury spell. I suspect that Gomes has not recovered fully. However, his current presence in the squad provide a stabilising effect to the defence, after he started coming-in confidently for crosses and making his big frame felt to the opposing strikers.

With VDV, Modric is more subdue. I hope he is not affected by it. However, I think Modric will benefit from the way VDV play and stand out during VDV's absence.

I guess with Ledley, we can only optimise his playing days and give him plentiful of rest.

I am more concern with Palacios, Keane, Krancjar, Giovani Dos Santos, Sandro and Defoe (when he is fit again), and how they fit in to the current team.

Hopefully, the players understand that we need to go on rotation with so many games needed to be played. Also hopefully, we can qualify for Champions League position again and probably land on some Cup this year in order to boost morale.

My personal preference is the FA Cup (Not because we are out of Carling Cup, but for our past glorious history in it). :D

good points there bro.

i'm afraid modric may not be able to show flair in the same team with vdv, with the latter bossing the attacking third more than anyone. reminds me of how zindane kept micoud out of the french team.

harry made players like palacios, keane (spurs legend), krancjar and defoe famous last season, i'm sure his plan will work for them. but i'll rather have palacios in central midfiled in place of huddles. palacios is more lively and a much better ball winner.

given a complete clean bill of health and fitness but still excluding woodgate and ledley, this is my preferred 1st 11 now based on 442.

gomes
huttons dawson kaboul ekoto
modric vdv palacios bale
pavy keane

Bro,

I think Huddlestone is there because of his versatility, his passing is very much better than Palacios, moreover, he can link up defence to attack very well with Harry's style of play. Palacios is lacking in the passing department although he is a great tackler. However, his strength is also his weakness as he got himself into the referee's book more often than Huddlestone.

Given full fitness, my 1st 11 choice (except Woodgate and King, 4-3-1-2) this season is:
Gomes
Hutton Dawson Bassong Bale
Lenon Huddlestone Modric VDV
Crouch Defoe

Subs:
Palacios, Krancjar, Pavy, Keane, Cudicini

Bro,

During attack, Hutton and Bale will be playing wing back. When that is done, Huddlestone will fall back to help Dawson and Bassong forming 3-4-1-2. As Bassong can be quite erratic at times, hence, I believe this can curb counter-attack while the wing back gets back into position. Ekoto is too rashful in defence at times and his speed is not as fast as Bale.

While defending, Bale and Hutton can counter the speed of the opposition wingers. Lennon and Modric can also help out.

VDV can always fall back into central midfield when we are out numbered.

Crouch has begin to learn to use his head to aid the other players. His height is critical for long ball if the wings are tied by opposition and the opposition has to allot 2 players to close him down, this will free Defoe. Defoe provide the speed required in attack to trouble the opposing defenders.

Pavy will be a substitute for Crouch if long ball and wings failed. He is good at long range strike as well as he fluorish with VDV around. Keane will be used when we want to use interchange tactics, with his interchanging position with VDV to confuse man-to-man marking opposition.

Krancjar is a very capable player whom can come in for VDV, Modric and Lennon. Palacios is required when the opposition is very tough tackling like Wolves as Huddlestone is weaker in this department.

Hope that explains my present dream selection (or dreaming:D).

yeah bassong is not really up there in the reliable department. a mistake from a defender when counter attacked will lead to a goal except if the goalkeeper is ray clemence.

bale is playing the game at the highest level now at both positions, but i dont wish to stop seeing bale on the left wing pulling 3 defenders with him. :D

I opted for Bassong because of his speed and ability to score goals. In terms of stability in defence, Dawson can provide it playing alongside him and Huddlestone also showed that he can help cover for Bassong. 1 more consideration is that, to date, he is not too injury prone besides Dawson.

Bro. Isn't it better to let Bale come from the blind side as a wing back and given his speed, he will outpace anyone in planet (maybe besides Usain Bolt) and he is more protected in this sense.

Lennon has not been the same since his injury. I also hope that he get back his top form. Krancjar is a top player, whom has sacrificed for the team when Modric is fit and more so now that we have VDV. I just hope that Harry adjust his tactics correctly to field the right rotation as this is the only way we can get players to get match fitness as well as satisfied their hunger for playing.

haha we'll call him bale the bolt very soon.
i am thinking of bale being a player who is allowed to cut into the middle of the attacking 3rd and being a regular goal scorer, not unlike the likes of legendary overmars. the great garth crooks played that role too and archibald had to keep up with him.
