Wkend match is a must-win now if not it will be a hard & long climb up again.

He is on a high pay-roll in liverpool, if you are the owner, will you pay someone who doesnt play

Not unless they have deep pockets like Chelsea, didn't they paid one of their players for years just to warm his bum?

That was Winston Bogarde.
For 5 years they didn't let him play.
By the time his contract ran out, he was finished as a player because no other club wanted him.

Liverpool should do the same to Mascherano.

Torres is so unpredictable, ngog is obviously bad to the core - instead we need 2-3 strikers but only the sale of Mash (which we do not even know where this sum will land up with who).

Much to so many optimistic fans in this forum, as long as the Americans are still here, nothing positive from me ..

Liverpool have moved quickly to replace Javier Mascherano by agreeing a £10.7m package with Porto tonight for the Portugal international Raul Meireles.

Meireles, one of Portugal's more impressive players at the World Cup, is understood to have agreed personal terms and, if everything goes to plan, the deal will be completed over the weekend, dependent on the 27-year-old passing a medical examination.

The transfer was rushed through this evening after Mascherano finally got his wish to leave Anfield, joining Barcelona in a £20m deal that freed up the money for Liverpool to bring in a cheaper replacement.

Meireles is available for a low fee because he only has two years of his contract left and Porto have been trying to sell him rather than risk losing him on a free transfer in the future.

The player has been prominently linked with Manchester United over the past month but does not fit into the club's policy under the Glazer family of not signing players for big money if they are aged 26 or above, Dimitar Berbatov being the exception to the rule.

Liverpool do not operate with such restrictions and the manager Roy Hodgson will hope Meireles can make his debut in the league game at Birmingham City on 12 September.

looks like a great signing at an affordable fee. keeping fingers crossed that he wont be another high profile flash in the pan like Ryan Babel or Aquilani.

Coming from the Portuguese league he should not have problem adjusting to the BPL...... unlike the Serie A where the game is more technical and many from there cannot take physical abuse. :D

i think you are comparing the likes of ronaldo, nani & calvalho. :D

well, hopefully he can live up to his status lah. if he was linked to devils, he should be of some quality.

btw sidetrack a bit, does any bros know why Pool does not want to sell Aquilani now since he doesnt feature in RH's plans? Rather than loan him elsewhr and see his value depreciate more. I believe many of those italian clubs would love to sign him. Better to sell him now and sign another 1 or 2 quality players.

Fulham have completed the signing of Mexico left-back Carlos Salcido from PSV Eindhoven for a reported fee in the region of £1.6million

why din we try to sign him?
we need a LB and he's an experience international who had an impressive season with psv n world cup... most importantly he cost only £1.6million...!!!
instead we're rumoured to be linked to a £3~3.5million bid of Paul Konchesky..?!!

i doubt any substantial amount of $$ recieved from macherano sale will be given to roy to buy players, even if he have time to get any deal done before the transfer window closes...

maybe it's better to loan him back to juve for a season, and hope he can get back his form and put in an impressive season(which is more likely to happen in serieA than BPL), then his value may shoot up instead.....

:D:D:D

Like any other Reds fan, I can understand your frustration and pessimism.

Look at the brighter side bro - With Raul, Poulsen, Javanovic and Cole, hopefully we made the right signings and they will steer the ship back into the right direction. We may not be championship material now but realistically I will be happy if we finish in the top 4.

Let's be forward looking n pray that SG n Torres hit top form soon. Both still looked rusty lately and may need a couple of matches to recondition. hopefully by then we wouldnt at lurking below mid table.

I dont think Ngog is 'bad to the core' lah. Let's give him some due credit for his goals so far (agt Arse and Europa). He did try very hard but keep missing chances. Didnt Kuyt miss a lot of goals too last season? But fans still love him. We badly need a quality striker to partner Torres upfront but with our kind of budget which big signing would want to come??? RH n his scouts would need to look at the budget below 10m category which is not impossible to scrape a good buy. Just look at Javier Hernandez who was signed for juz ~6m for devils.

lets remain optimistic .. there's light at the end of the tunnel. :)

News is we are about to sign the Portuguese midfielder in the Alonso mode so it appears we are investing the money, which also explains why AA is leaving.

It also means no money for striker lah :(

I think that's an important point to say about Ngog. Why blast a young inexperienced striker who is doing his level best? Obviously if one had watched the Trab match, although he missed a sitter, he caused all sorts of problems to their defence and his pressure on the defender led to the own goal (which effectively won us the tie).

I'd want Ngog to remain with us and come on as a late sub. He is not first team material yet, but he's come through a very tough season last season with some experience and goals, and he can only get better with us.
