I think Spurs may be challenging for 3rd & 4th at the end of the season, but it is unrealistic to say we can challenge the title unless both Man U and Man City has some mishap/s. 1) Spurs will need to be in the UCL to attract better players before challenging for the title because Spurs does not have the $$$ power like Man U and Man City. 2) Spurs need a few more years of constant UCL participation before being able to be considered title challengers. Hopefully, we can make it with Harry around because he has really turn us around from a certain Juan De Ramos. Hopefully, Harry will stay as our manager. And, hopefully, Harry can be healthier. West Brom 1 Spurs 3
http://soccernet.espn.go.com/report/_/id/318190?cc=4716 Not an impressive 1st half, in fact almost lost it. Better 2nd half display, but again too many chances gone amiss, not good against better opposition like Man U, Man City, Chelski and etc... Both Modric and VDV out has really put us out of the creative department. Harry's presence help the team to play better. Just hope that we can have him for a long long time to come. Man U draws, 30 pts, +17goals; Newcastle draws, 26 pts, +7goals; Chelski wins, 25 pts, +11goals; Arsenal draws, 23 pts, +3goals. Liverpool v Man City tonite. Hopefully, Liverpool can win or at least draw. Spurs is third at the moment with 28 pts, +10goals. Hopefully, we can improve further. COMON YOU SPURS!!!:D |
Re: Tottenham Hotspur - the Pride of London
This is how the table looks after Man City's draw with Liverpool:
Man City draws, 35pts, +31goals; Man U draws, 30 pts, +17goals; Tottenham wins, 28pts, +10goals (1 game in-hand); Newcastle draws, 26 pts, +7goals; Chelski wins, 25 pts, +11goals; Liverpool draws, 23pts, +5goals; and Arsenal draws, 23 pts, +3goals. Till Christmas, we still need to face Chelski which will be a tough match. We also have the tough fixture period from 22 Jan 12 to 24 Mar 12, which will decide where we are going to end the season. So I think it is too early to rate Spurs as title challenger as there is still a long way to go, but I believe this is a good position to be in now and we have a great great chance to end the season within the top 4 if not top 3 provided we play better by killing-off when opportunity arise plus keeping clean sheets. This season looks promising, for now. Hopefully, it will be like that or better than this at the end of the season.:D COMON YOU SPURS!!!:D |
Re: Tottenham Hotspur - the Pride of London
In terms of points/match average:
1) Man City, 2.69; 2) Tottenham, 2.33; 3) Man Utd, 2.31; 4) Newcastle, 2.00; 5) Chelski, 1.92; 6) Liverpool, 1.77; and 7) Arsenal, 1.77. In terms of goals/match average: 1) Man City, 2.38; 2) Man Utd, 1.31; 3) Chelski, 0.85; 4) Tottenham, 0.83; 5) Newcastle, 0.54; 6) Liverpool, 0.38; and 7 Arsenal, 0.23. Gareth Bale and Kyle Walker have paid tribute to Gary Speed following the tragic passing of the Wales manager on Sunday morning. Gareth is a key member of the Wales team managed by Speed who won their last four games and optimism was high ahead of the qualification period for the next World Cup, while Kyle's association with the Premier League icon, who made 535 appearances in the competition, came at Sheffield United where Speed played and coached before taking over as manager. "It was a massive shock, I don't think anybody ever thought anything like this would happen," said Gareth this morning. "Everyone is devastated and it is a massive loss to everyone in football. "It is a tragedy, everyone still can't get their head around it and all our condolences go out to his family and his kids. It is a hard time," added Gareth, who says himself and his Wales teammates will give their all to honour Speed's memory. "We were on the up, he changed the way we play and the whole mentality of our game. It is a massive loss, but we will try and carry on the best we can in his honour." Kyle described working with Speed as a young player at Sheffield United as a privilege. "I heard the news yesterday morning when my mum called me and I was gutted," said the full-back. "I worked with him at Sheffield United where he was a coach and it was a big step for me in my playing career. He was exactly as he came across, he was fantastic and it was a privilege to know him. "My thoughts are with his sons and his family, my heart goes out to them. He was a great guy and this is a sad time." Everyone at the Club joins Gareth and Kyle in sending our sincere condolences to the family and friends of Gary Speed. |

Spurs 1 PAOK 2
Spurs facing elimination: http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/st...nation?cc=4716 We need PAOK to win against Rubin at home and we need to win big in the last match away. Very tough, very very tough with our strikers converting 2-3 chances out of 12-18 shots. Even tougher with a leaky defence. Not conceding goals, we didn't. We may need to have some great ex-defender in the coaching staff to pin-point those area that are leaking and leaking and leaking. Stop wasting opportunities, we didn't. We have Joe Jordan, Clive Allen, Les Ferdinand and Tim Sherwood in the coaching staff. We can't score by camping in the opposition half and with them down to 10 man? Did we work on it (sharpness and instinctive action towards scoring)? We only have ourselves to blame if we gets eliminated. We are simply not good enough. Maybe, and really maybe, it is a blessing in disguise if we get eliminated: 1) Silverware We have to win some silverware this season, maybe it is time to concentrate on EPL and FA Cup, the only two competition we can get silverware. EPL, I think unlikely as Spurs has a tradition of running out of steam (just like this match against PAOK). FA Cup, maybe, if we concentrate and we can be in for a chance in a Cup competition that we have a rich history. Moreover, it is 2011, we tend to win trophies with the year ending in 1's. 2) UCL Qualification With the UEL cramp fixture in between the EPL and cup competitions, it may hinder our qualification for UCL next season. Considering Arsenal and Liverpool back in form and the injured Chelski ready to bounce back anytime, it may be more advisable to miss out on UEL now. Hopefully, we can get the best of the UEL situation. COMON YOU SPURS!!!:D |

Neither do I. Looking on the bright side, it is the fringe players playing with only a couple of 1st team players in this team. However, if we looked at the flip side, it only tell us that our fringe players are not up to par yet. Hence, I think it is not appropriate to talk about Anelka now: http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/st...ka-bid?cc=4716 I do not want Spurs to have lots of ex-greats in the 1st team causing the good enough fringe/youth players not being able to break through. This is only signal of a spiral downwards as the continuation of fresh players is not fast enough. Hopefully, Harry and Daniel know what they are doing. COMON YOU SPURS!!!:D |

http://soccernet.espn.go.com/report/_/id/317976?cc=4716 Good displace of attacking football by Spurs, harsh red card for Gary Cahill, great goalkeeping by Jaaskelainen. Again, Spurs strikers are not firing well enough to score more goals. The defence looks okay against Bolton, but had a few little scary moments when passing the ball too much. Hopefully, Harry can tidy up all the loose ends before playing Chelski. COMON YOU SPURS!!!:D |

Same sentiment here. The way we perform so far proves our ambition to challenge for a UCL position and, to me, I think Spurs has done themselves proud so far. Having said that, it is still early in the season, for Spurs, we need to get pass March 12 before the path towards the end of the season is clearer. Look's like Harry got half of his wishes, i.e. Man City fail to qualify for last 16 in UCL, but the other half of his wish can only come true if Spurs fail in UEL. For me, as long as Spurs can get into UCL next year, I am happy. If they can win the FA Cup as well, I am happier. And if they can qualify for UCL as third or higher, it is,by far, my happiest time supporting them. Bro, do you think I'm asking too much?:D Bro, strange enuff. This is 2011... COMON YOU SPURS!!!:D |
Re: Tottenham Hotspur - the Pride of London
A brief history of Tottenham Hotspur:
Formed: 1882 Previous names: Hotspur FC Admitted to Football League: 1908 UEFA Cup 1971-1972 ,1983-84 European Cup Winners' Cup: 1962-63 First Division: 2 Second Division: 2 FA Cup: 8 League Cup: 4 Tottenham Hotspur's position as one of the glory teams of British football was cemented in 1961, when they became the first English team to do the Double in 20th century. That was one of two championships the club has won, but they have added 15 major cups to their collection - including, in 1963, the first European trophy won by an English club. At first the club was called Hotspur, having been formed in 1888 by a group of grammar-school boys. They were not elected to the Football League until 1909, but by then Spurs had already won their first FA Cup. In 1901 they beat Sheffield United in the final, thus becoming the only non-league side to win the tournament after the formation of the Football League. Tottenham were relegated immediately after the war, but returned to the top flight at the first attempt and then won the FA Cup in 1921. After finishing runners up in the league the following season, Spurs slipped down the table; they were relegated again in 1928 and also - after a brief, two-season return to the top flight - in 1935. After the war, under the progressive management of Arthur Rowe, Spurs become one of the most attractive sides in England. They were promoted in 1950 and won the club's first championship in spectacular style a year later. After finishing as runners up in 1952 and 1957, a third title was won under Bill Nicholson in 1961 - and this time Spurs added the FA Cup. To Nicholson, glory was as important as victory. His Spurs side combined the two: in that Double season they romped to the title by eight points, scoring 115 goals in 42 games, and their 11 consecutive league wins at the start of the season is still an English top-division record. Their team included the great Danny Blanchflower and Dave Mackay, and in the summer of 1961 they added the supernatural goalscoring talent of Jimmy Greaves, whose 266 goals over the next nine years remain a club record. Although Spurs were almost omnipresent in the top six in Greaves' time, they steadily became known as a cup side. In 1963 they thrashed Atletico Madrid win the Cup Winners Cup, and in 1972 they would become the first winners of the renamed Uefa Cup, beating Wolves over two legs in the first all-English European final. There were also triumphs in the FA Cup (1962 and 1966) and League Cup (1971 and 1973), but rioting after a defeat to Feyenoord in the 1974 Uefa Cup final led to Nicholson's resignation. A hideous few years followed, including a year in Division Two after a shock relegation in 1977. The man who took Spurs down, Keith Burkinshaw, revitalised the club and oversaw another productive spell at the start of the Eighties. In 1978 he pulled off an almighty coup by signing the World Cup-winning duo of Ossie Ardiles and Ricky Villa, adding them to a midfield that already contained the sublime talent of Glenn Hoddle. Spurs triumphed in the FA Cup in 1981 - when Villa's amazing solo goal beat Manchester City in a replay - and 1982; then, in Burkinshaw's final game in 1984, they won the Uefa Cup at White Hart Lane after beating Anderlecht on penalties. There were third-placed finishes in 1985, 1987 and 1990, but the next trophy came in 1991, the fifth consecutive decade in which Spurs had won a trophy when the year ended in 1. Paul Gascoigne took Spurs almost single-handedly to the final against Nottingham Forest, but injured himself and was stretchered off. His team-mates recovered marvellously from that, and going a goal down, to win 2-1. Much of the Nineties was spent grimacing at Arsenal's success, although 1999 was a successful year: Spurs beat Leicester to win the League Cup and David Ginola was named Player of the Year. They won the League Cup again in 2008, but the thing Spurs really wanted - Champions League football - finally came their way when, in Harry Redknapp's first season, they became the first side in five years to break into English football's Big Four. Almost fifty years on from their last visit, Spurs were back in European football's premier competition, but an impressive campaign could not be repeated the following season. Bro, What say you? Is it going to be an five or more consecutives decades of trophies when the year ended with 1? Hopefully, it will be more than winning trophies in the coming years ending with 1. Hopefully, it will be at least a trophy per year starting with 2011...:D COMON YOU SPURS!!!:D |

Re: Tottenham Hotspur - the Pride of London

I suspected the lost is coming, but it is sooner than expected. With Chelski resurrgent, Arsenal and Liverpool firing, Spurs must really make chances count and not wait for the referee to give them a free ride. I am saying this because I feel that there will be decisions going against us and there are decisions going for us earlier, like against Liverpool. We cry foul and lost our heads by not converting enough good chances. Great teams like Barcelona and Real Madrid just convert, convert and convert their chances instead of letting the referee gets them down. We need to have this winner mentality that we can contain, overcome, overtake and outscore any opponents that we face. Hopefully, we piclk up from there. COMON YOU SPURS!!!:D |

I don't follow Italian football, so not too sure about Amauri. However, I do think that fresh blood needed to boost Spurs and by saying so, I look at Kyle Walker as an example. We loan him out and he developed into quite an attacking wing back. Chelski and Man U have great example too, Daniel Sturridge and Danny Welbeck respectively. Both did well during their loan period and managed to secure 1st team place with their consistent performance. This is where Spurs youth ranks should do. Hopefully, we can have a stream of great youth coming through. COMON YOU SPURS!!!:D |

Spurs got knocked out of UEL despite winning 4-0 against Shamrock:
http://soccernet.espn.go.com/report?id=332151&cc=4716 Good to see that our fringe players helped the team to bounce back from the Stoke defeat. Now UEL out of the way, not that I am especially happy as it means we have 1 less chance for a trophy, it is time to concentrate on EPL and FA Cup. Harry, you have not much chance to rotate your players and keep your fringe players happy enough. Harry, you have to win at least a trophy for Spurs before you could think about being England's manager. Becoz you are at a top club without a trophy, that will not help if you become England manager. Harry, you have to push us into UCL next season. If you can win the EPL, it will be great for your portfolio, if not, qualifying for UCL is the least you can do with Spurs at the current position with such a talented squad, which you mentioned time and again. Pavy does it again:
http://soccernet.espn.go.com/report?id=318043&cc=4716 With Bale injured and Lennon suffering an injury in the 1st half, we did look too narrow in attack. Our wingbacks are not crossing well enough until VDV turn up in the 2nd half with loads and loads of creativity. I think we should use the wingbacks against Chelski in our next match at WHL. Given a choice, I will keep Bale in the sideline even if he recovers from his sprain ankle. Play 3 Fullbacks (Kaboul, Gallas & King) with Sandro covering them infront. Kaboul has the speed to cover Gallas and King, while they can provide the necessary experience. Sandro played really well yesterday as a covering midfielder and he switches play with Parker very well. 1 will stay back as cover while the other attack. Sandro's play has mature tremendously during this match. Parker and Modric in midfield with the 2 wingbacks (Walker & Assou-Ekotto). Bale to be introduced when things get too tight as Chelski has a very good midfield as well as wings. Bale can also be introduced when VDV is getting over-crowded and tired. Introduction of Bale at a later stage will prove crucial as Bale will run against tired legs. VDV just behind the 2 strikers (Adebayor & Defoe). Playing Defoe will give Terry and his defence a lot running and this will wear them down until the introduction of Bale. Adebayor will provide the necessary running, trickery as well as height for attack. VDV will be stringing the wingbacks as well as Modric/Parker into attacking positions. If there is a need to change the strikers, Pavy will come in for Defoe after Bale's introduction as this will provide additional height and shooting options outside the box. VDV and Modric can often switch positions to make this diamond formation more fluid. Jake Livermore and/or Bassong will become the necessary substitutes for defence and midfield. Just my 2 cents worth diamond formation against Chelski. With Chelski's consistency in question. I think we are in for a good match against Chelski. Let's hope that this match is going to be the start of the turn around for future matches against Chelski. COMON YOU SPURS!!!:D |
