Hi I heard that Canton Fair just started this week. I will be in CP next week during weekdays. For those who have experienced being there during Canton Fair, would CP be unbearably overcrowded? Even on weekdays?

Canton fair has lost its charm these days and not as crowded as used to be....still book your hotels and ktv early though ...... expect more ppl during breakfast and longer waiting time in footie and massage places ....

Just a reminder....that traffic always slows down terribly in southern China when it rains.

Totally forgot this myself yesterday; coming up, the Luohu customs line handling all these Canton Trade Fair travelers were horrendous, and since I had a bit of time/just missed the 14:37 direct CP-HKG train - I figured that the 15:00 bus was a viable alternative.

What would have normally been a 2 hours, maximum 2-1/2 hours journey ended up 4-1/2 hours!! First, the 3 o'clock bus ended up as a 3:30 bus (it was caught in traffic on the way up!) and then it was a total mess on the highway and at each toll booth. Ridiculous!!

Save yourself a lot of hassles and NOT go by bus to Hong Kong during the rush hour traffic ( buses leaving CP between 3 to 6 PM) and especially when its raining!

And its the same with buses going up from Hong Kong around the same time - only worse because you will also have the kids attending school in Hong Kong returning to their Shenzhen homes at that time

Ths SEAJ for update. Was wondering if Cp is terribly over-crowded now with canton fair on ? Or perhaps bird flu is keeping many ppl away.

Just IMHO of course - but I really FEEL that this year, the Canton Trade Fair still have NOT adversely affected things in CP. Now whether its because of less attendance at the Fair because of the state of the world economy/China prices getting to be uncompetitive/whatever, I'm not sure.

I rather suspect that there are also other influences at play - the main one that I can think of, being that not only has CP now gone nuts as far as prices are concerned, the quality, the service and more importantly, the attitude of the girls have really gone down the shit hole. I know for a fact that a lot of my own friends have now stopped going up to CP as often and would rather spend their money elsewhere i.e. Angeles City, Bangkok and of course other locales in China.

About bird flu ..... well I really do not think that its in too many LOCAL people's psyche yet; at least in places I went to last week in Southern China and in Hong Kong, nobody seems to have any cares about this H7N9 virus. Overseas Press seems to have been the only one to have gone to town on this news though.

But in any case, it seems that hotels and KTV room bookings donot seem to be too tight and especially during weekdays, there's empty rooms galore at even the popular KTV's

Well, first thing I would suggest is for you to read up all the wealth of information in our boards on Shenzhen, Zhuhai, and Chang Ping and for you to make up your own mind.

And really, there's no need for you to be so polite as to have to PM me - you can and should ask for such information on the public board. I'm sure that even if I don't reply - others most probably would.

Anyway..........IMHO, Zhuhai is practically dead these days unless you've already got previous connections, same thing with a lot of Shenzhen saunas. Shenzhen's KTV's are extortionate, their BBS's are spotty and an adventure all by itself - and thus your best bet - even though prices are rapidly going up and service/attitude/quality of girls is rapidly going down - is still Chang Ping.
