Love with your heart but keep a room for possible worst case scenario. Communicate with the other the possibble worst case scenario and have a common understanding on the planned action or alertness required when time come. Cherish the past while be a middleman to your current self. Hopefully, someone can establish a religion not to worship god/make a better society but to specifically prepare the heart to handle your own marriage.

Many at times, we tend to take things and people for granted. We should spend more time and tell things to the people that we love that we care before it's too late and live in regrets with many things left unsaid... :o;)
