I very seldom stay in hotels costing above 500k.
You have to walk another further into the smaller streets and check out decent front hotels.
You can be surprised sometimes just a short walk can cut a few hundred k, although quality of stay is still good.
Eg, behind Ben thanh market, walk and turn into the small roads,you an find really decent hotels costing 350k and they are gf friendly too. Not to mention they provide foc breakfast If u r really on tight budget
As to where you want to save or spend, it's your decision.
