A court in Ho Chi Minh City on Thursday sentenced a woman to two years in prison for stealing a Rolex watch and cash from a 72-year-old man from Papua New Guinea last year.
According to the indictment, Tran Thi Thuy Trang, 35, often looked for foreign clients at bars in the city downtown.
At around 3 a.m. on August 1, she met the victim, identified only as Robert, at a bar on Bui Vien Street.
She agreed to spend a night with him at his house in District 2 for VND2 million (US$94).
When her client fell asleep after sex, Trang stole his Rolex watch and VND11 million before fleeing, news website VnExpress reported.
She pawned the watch for VND50 million to pay off her debt and for personal spending.
Three days later, Robert asked Trang to return the watch and money when he saw her at the same bar. She promised to do so, but fled after giving him her fake ID card.
On August 16, the man reported the case to the police after seeing Trang again at another bar.
She confessed to the crime when arrested.
It is unclear if police managed to recover the Rolex, which is worth around VND180 million.
