wow...first time I heard of this...but after reading your posts then understand what you mean...you mean learning to read and write Thai words...oh yes for us virtually impossible...
but in terms of speaking...tieng viet is tougher to learn..

I had ventured to meeting with VBs that work in cafes, restaurants, sales, friends intro, etc...actually is easier if you met VBs and then chat on FB, wechat and Zalo..etc..from there you get to know alot of her friends...which you can actually chat...mostly in Tieng Viet...
decent VBs you need to show up very often otherwise none will take you seriously...if VB interested in you then she will arrange all the programs otherwise she will give you all kinds of excuses...^^
