me too started learning how to read and write 2 years before learning how to speak...always learn the hard way...still learning after all these years...
think the key test is be able to speak to a hotel reception in tieng viet to book a room and bus company reception to book bus ticket giving name and phone number...and getting the seat number of your booking before you reach, pay and collect the ticket...
