I was thinking to your plan today, and suddenly it came to my mind a question which should have come before: ok, you arrive late at Changi and cannot go straight to Batam because you miss the last ferry, but, instead of spending the night in a hotel near Harbour Front, why don't you stay near Geylang??
You can take the MRT in the morning and be at Harbour Front in half an hour or so.
