Rallies to be held outside S'pore Embassy in Bangkok

Report from The Nation dated Tuesday 7 March 2006 :-

Rallies to be held outside S'pore Embassy in Bangkok

Foreign Affairs Minister Kantathi Suphamongkhon said Monday that the Singapore government did not inquire about rallies which the anti-Thaksin coalition plans outside the Singapore embassy in Bangkok.

Kantathi said Singapore understands the situation well but Thai police would ensure that would be no problems to the embassy.

The People's Alliance for Democracy has announced that it would hold protests outside the Singapore embassy to pressure Singapore's Temaske Holdings Co Ltd to sell back Shin Corp to Thailand.

Quote:
In the meantime, the PAD leaders, including Maj. Gen. Chamlong Srimuang, a former political mentor of Mr. Thaksin, decided not to lead the demonstrators to march to the Government House, but planned to lead some demonstrators to rally in front of the Singapore Embassy later this week, may be on March 9, to show their protest against Singapore's largest and state-owned telecommunication company, Temasek Holdings, purchase of shares of Shin Corporation, Thailand's largest telecommunication firm owned by Mr. Thaksin's family, in late January.
