Ricovir contains 2 anti-retroviral medicines.
The latest WHO guide on HIV PEP is that all patients should be given 3 anti-retroviral medicines. Regardless of the exposure risk.
This is because the risk of PEP failure with only 2 medicines is higher. Previously we used to be concerned about side effects with 3 medicines but now with the newer medicines, more than 99% of patients do not get side effects. So that is no longer a consideration.
