"Prostitution is not an offence under Singapore's laws, However, soliciting is and offence under the Miscellaneous Offences Act. Sec 19 of Miscellaneous Offence (Public Order and Nuisance) - Every person who in any public road or public place persistently loiters or solicits for the purpose of prostiution or for any other immoral purpose shall be guilty of an offence and shall be liable on conviction to a find no ecxeeding $1000 and, in case of a sceond or subsequent conviction, to a fine not exceeding $2000 or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 6 months or to both) Many countries around the world adopt a similar approach.

Governments around the world through the ages have tried to eradicate prostitution and brothels, but without success. Sinagpore has adopted a pragmatic solution, by confining prostitution to certain areas, and through enforcement against prostitution who solicit in public, and pimps who force women into prostitution. As a result of the Police's enforcement actions, the level of vice activities in Singapore is largely under control."
